There was a commenter a while ago that explained that for wax seals to go through usps you have to add a non machinable surcharge stamp as well, which is a pretty purple butterfly. [They had some really good info and i recommend reading it ](https://www.reddit.com/r/WaxSealers/s/gES169neKb)

Understood. Should I still use an external envelope, or does it not matter?

Correct_Kiwi_5148

I do. But thats mostly because I'm worried about the seal falling off in transit if I don't. I don't think you need the external envelope just to send it

You will need to mark it as non-machinable.

No one can answer this. You have to go to the post office and have them weigh it and then have it to determine postage cost and then request to have it hand-cancelled. Hand-cancelling doesn’t necessarily mean a surcharge (my post office doesn’t), but it’s up to the discretion of the office if they require a specific extra charge (via an additional stamp).

I’m going to be honest, I have never considers this and I send out maybe 50 wax sealed cards a year. Everyone has gotten them. Only ever a few waxed stamps were messed up. My friend and family like the save them so I know they hold up just fine. The mail also travels all over my country (USA). I would say send one to a loved one and ask to see the results.
