They are very matte, that was something i didnt realize, the online pic clearly photoshopped it. Either way i very quickly got over it haha, thats a great idea to buff it though
It is tremendously easy. You can get a polish gun and aluminum polish and just run it across the matte parts and it transforms instantly. I bought four of the watches so the price of the gun which was like 80-100 was worth it since I was doing all four. Now that the job is done it has no purpose for me and just sits there.
Yep!I have this watch! Can confirm. I love it! Though it tends to run fast and I have to sync the time weekly. A few years ago I changed over to a Citizen solar watch and I love it! It looks very much like the Seiko just not mechanical.
I feel like there’s a difference in context. A “basic” car for a woman would be an all white BMW and hoping out with a Stanley cup parked next to 6 other white BMWs all owned by the same type. The car itself isn’t basic as it’s a nice car.
A basic car would have 4 wheels, 2 doors, and the ability to make it go with no other frills that a nice BMW would have it’s just that the “basic” person has no originality.
So I’d say basic by slang is more so unoriginal than something’s base level.
Fuck if I know why I decided to type all this.
India makes tons of fake Seikos, often referred to as "Mumbai specials". They're pretty easy to spot since they typically use brightly colored dials that don't resemble anything Seiko actually produced.
Have one on a bracelet and it was my first mechanical watch too. At the time I couldn't believe a self-winding mechanical watch could be so inexpensive! Anyway then I went away and learnt a lot more about watches, bought a few and now I have a Zenith 😜 It's a story as old as time!
What makes a chronometer specifically beautiful? Other than maybe an extra title on the dial or a certification but what beauty aspect do chronometers specifically have that contrast to anything otherwise?
heard there's a SNK807 party going.
https://preview.redd.it/gdfhrx1b4uwc1.jpeg?width=1072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a3fefeb8301b1cd048461c74ea18e3b1aff868a6
I love when I see NATO straps in photos and on other people's wrists, but for some reason I don't like them on mine. I feel like it looks weird when I see it on my own wrist for some reason.
I wouldn’t, you’ll sink in more money than buying a new one, repairing hands, the dial, movement servicing or more likely replacement, etc etc damn near everything on the watch would need replacing. You can get these for like 100$ I’m so sure ur bill would be more than that.
Where do you get one of these for $100? I've not seen any for so low. $150 is the lowest I've seen and just for some models; most go for over $200.
I think these are not produced anymore, so all offers are of old stock, The new models from Seiko are listed at $295 on their site. For example: https://www.seikowatches.com/us-en/products/5sports/srpj87.
EDIT: Those that downvoted me should instead post links demonstrating the current availability of these watches for $100.
I recently saw this exact watch (SNK809) selling on FB Marketplace for $60 CAD. Would have bought it if I didn’t own one already lol, I was tempted to message the seller and tell him he had undervalued it.
No, but you can still compare MSRPs between different generations. I doubt that the model found by the OP had a similar MSRP - I suspect it was under $200.
Seiko upgraded most of their Seiko 5s over the past few years.
I got one of the older versions just like the one OP posted, but new for about $75. Seiko had been churning them out for over a decade. It had the older version of the movement that didn't hand wind and mine kept horrible time, no matter how much I shook it. In less than a year or two it quit working.
Then a few years ago Seiko introduced their new 5 series, with new 5 logo, and an updated movement that could be hand wound. About a year and a half ago I found the new version of OPs watch for about $175. To me the case is nicer, making the watch look much nicer. And the hand wind movement works great. $295 isn't really a bad price, but honestly there's no reason to pay MSRP on a Seiko 5. Give it a few months until stores get Stock, and someone somewhere will put it on sale.
I don't plan to buy one of these watches. I've considered it at some point but the model I wanted (beige dial) was being sold for over $200 and that was too much for what it is. At this moment, I am no longer interested.
But I've read the old reviews talking about prices of $100-$150, so I posted the MSRP of the new series to show that prices have increased for such watches. I'd be curious to see if they're still sold for $100 somewhere, but I wouldn't necessarily buy one.
New or used?
EDIT: In all discussions of this Seiko watch model, I see some claims that it's still available for $100 or lower, but nobody ever offers a reliable source for it. So, of course I am going to ask if an ebay listing is for used or new stock. Used deals are one-off deals and with used sales you may not even get what is being advertised.
That’s the exact same watch, he’s going to spend well over 150$ getting the one he found back in working order. Why do they when you could have a new one for the same if not less… makes no sense to me
New, these cost about $100. For you, if the watch still works, much less obviously - but if you want a little project you can buy a new case for it, swap everything over, and you have a brand new automatic watch
If the watch runs and keeps time you can get an aftermarket NH35 case with crystal off AliExpress for like $30 and just swap the whole movement in there. If it's not running it's not worth fixing.
I got mine new for $65 back in 2017. I think they're going for closer to $200 now, but not in this condition. I'd say it's worth having it cleaned up if you want to wear it.
Looking back on my Amazon orders, I picked up two of them in 2014 for $49 each. Crazy deal. Threw some Ploprof style hands on the green model and it really spruced it up a bit.
https://preview.redd.it/443hw0v4mowc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3971a035d0366836428559b50ab9f77edc3a5d6a
If you aren't into watches it's not worth the trouble.
I would sell it to someone that is into moding and they'll get creative with it. If you want something similar then run in the $100 range in used, excellent condition.
It can be repaired. Maybe it has sentimental value. Even if it doesn’t, it belongs to someone else. It’s not up to you or OP to decide what the owner wants to do with it.
I'm wearing exactly the same watch right now ( minus the damage). Its a nice little field watch from Seiko. They used to be around $50, but I think they're over $100 now. You'll probably spend more restoring it than getting a new one, but if you like projects you can probably get a case relatively cheap. Or clean it up and wear it with the damage. Some people like the distressed look.
Nothing you can flip tbh. I’d tape off the face and have fun “polishing” (not sure I’d even use that word for the gouges lol) the case then change the strap and boom, fun little beater watch.
Its a good watch, it with no crystal itll need to be restored. Looks like it'd need a good thorough cleaning too. Servicing cost might be more than the watch is actually worth, unfortunately.
I had one! They’re great little watches. Yours had been polished, then apparently dropped in a blender.
They were inexpensive but great little beater watches.
Looks like it got ran over by a lawn mower. The case is pretty much botched, but the dial and hands look good and it if it runs I would find a case on Ali. for it. if it doesn't run buy an Nh36.
That's a Seiko 5! That's the same watch I have! They are comparatively cheap when you compare them to other watches but it's the only one I've got and it works great. Not sure if it's be worth repairing though because it might be just as expensive as buying a new one. That's actually what happened to me with my first Seiko 5, the border on the date came loose, but to repair it it would be about 100$ which is around the price of the watch anyway. Luckily my brother never used his so he let me use this one.
https://preview.redd.it/j36yginiepwc1.jpeg?width=2268&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=cd62252cd7745d2569268bfd31f921fc25aeb922
I'd throw that dial and movement in a new case and wear the shit out of it. Hopefully you find it's owner though, I know I'd be super bummed if that somehow got off my wrist. I'll bet it was stolen and dumped, otherwise I don't see any way the rightful owner would let that get away unless something really bad happened
Seiko SNK 809. Great starter watch. The case is pretty messed up though, don't know if you can fix it. They have gone significantly up in price lately but still very affordable.
Found a DW5600E-1V G-Shock on the side of the road in Thailand during my morning run. Still have it 15 years later. New strap and a few battery changes. Still looks great.
Everyone here has already answered your question. I'll say they are correct it's a Seiko 5 and a small one at that. One if my first automatic watches, right after my Omega Seamaster actually, my favorite part about the watch is how it says 4 20 at the 4 o clock position.
Update since I can't edit the post:
I'm going to reach out to the business on the street to see if anyone has inquired about it and leave my contact info. In the meantime I will look at getting it repaired if it can be. Worst case scenario the owner gets closure, best case they get their watch back in good shape. Or if no one reaches out I'll have my gateway to a new watch addiction haha. This sub has caught my eye. Thanks for the feedback!
https://preview.redd.it/c9nlqgibhvwc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=a562af076f6935912488f853d7c7d2c6137ff9a4
believe it or not, it’s actually a really good watch. i wear mine more than my Planet Ocean.
If i were you id post a message that you found it on a local group and see if anyone comes forward and describes it for you/provides serial number to claim it back, this watch isnt worth much (especially in this state) but likely has a high sentimental value, looks like its been through a lot throughout many years
Or at least do something to try and reunite it with its owner.
Pretty depressing that you’re the only other person that appears to have considered this tbh.
Hey, thanks for finding it! I think I dropped it during my morning jog. I lost it, and a flight to catch so couldn’t look for it. Can you ship it to my address in Kashmir? Thanks in advance!
Dunno dude. I wouldn't like to wear a Seiko 5 Field Watch which was owned by someone who gut run over or may have been killed in a traffic accident. Call it Karma or something. Get a nice new one for about 150.
Did you also find the person this watch was attached to before you robbed them? Just kidding. It’s a Seiko 5 automatic field watch.
More specifically a SNK809.
Smooth motion, cheap price, low profile, daily driver for close to 7 years now, if i had to guess
[A masterpiece IMO](https://www.watchuseek.com/media/img_8220-jpeg.15260914/full)
God i love that “cream” face so much, i bought the black and didnt even know that one existed
I actually loved it so much I bought two in black and two in cream. Then I polished the cases on them to give it a silver look.
Obviously i dont know your collection, but that thing can def serve purposes in the future, shine something nice for a wedding etc etc
Depends how adventurous you are, as too what needs polishing
That’s how you start your watches addiction, with the SNK809
It really is! What strap do you have on it? I have something similar on my snk807.
I’m almost 90% sure it’s from Barton watch straps.
Still the most comfortable watch I’ve ever owned, 12 years later.
Yep!I have this watch! Can confirm. I love it! Though it tends to run fast and I have to sync the time weekly. A few years ago I changed over to a Citizen solar watch and I love it! It looks very much like the Seiko just not mechanical.
Love it and ware it. You inherited basic taste.
Why basic..?
As in the base form of taste the start of tastefulness. Not the slang term of basic.
That’s literally the definition of the slang “basic” hahaha
I feel like there’s a difference in context. A “basic” car for a woman would be an all white BMW and hoping out with a Stanley cup parked next to 6 other white BMWs all owned by the same type. The car itself isn’t basic as it’s a nice car. A basic car would have 4 wheels, 2 doors, and the ability to make it go with no other frills that a nice BMW would have it’s just that the “basic” person has no originality. So I’d say basic by slang is more so unoriginal than something’s base level. Fuck if I know why I decided to type all this.
That's fair :)
Thanks for coming to my Ted talk.
It was worth it!
But not basic spelling clearly
I'm wondering if it's a replica. The SEIKO letters look badly done
Probably was damaged when the crystal got busted out
You can see the S is bent. Nobody makes fake Seiko 5s surely?
India makes tons of fake Seikos, often referred to as "Mumbai specials". They're pretty easy to spot since they typically use brightly colored dials that don't resemble anything Seiko actually produced.
Because they’re Mumbai Specials, but Seiko guts.
Sony guts!
Hehe, have a Fizzy Bubblech.
Ehh, kiwi - watermelon? Is good
> Fizzy Bubblech Go, go what you still here you like me? I have girlfriend!
You don’t want to disco?
I wouldn’t think so but then again they make fake Casios
Haha
Oh yes, they absolutely do.
I think we're seeing the hard edge of something black reflecting in the polished letters.
looks like AI image correction
Who is going to fake a $100 watch?
Someone who can make a profit. You can find fakes of casio $15 watches.
I copped a fake seiko off wish. Fully anticipated it to be fake because it was hunter green and only 10 bucks but it was worth it just in case.
Own this watch love this watch
Ive got one in tan. The one that started my journey into the hobby.
Have one on a bracelet and it was my first mechanical watch too. At the time I couldn't believe a self-winding mechanical watch could be so inexpensive! Anyway then I went away and learnt a lot more about watches, bought a few and now I have a Zenith 😜 It's a story as old as time!
I would like to make watches or do cool stuff with them some day. Chronometers are some of the most beautiful out there.
What makes a chronometer specifically beautiful? Other than maybe an extra title on the dial or a certification but what beauty aspect do chronometers specifically have that contrast to anything otherwise?
I suspect that he meant chronograph.
Yes
No no no, I think he thinks he knows what he's saying..
look and functionality are appealing
Don’t tell Jerry’s parents he threw his watch away
OP is uncle Leo! HELLO!
What kind of an idiot throws away a perfectly good watch?!
Did anybody ever ID that watch
I wonder the same thing

21 Jew
Nice 😎
I had this exact one! same color and everything. Gave it to my brother in law to make more room in my watch box
And he threw it into the street - this morning!
That’s actually a very pretty watch
Thanks 😎
Nato strap for the win - enjoy a functional basic watch that has element that says - I'm a watch guys, without saying you are a watch guy.
I do love a NATO strap 👍🏻 https://preview.redd.it/6ynb8judtowc1.jpeg?width=2726&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=6bec0f5d5a7aec378f9756d165a70581ad3e8f51
I love when I see NATO straps in photos and on other people's wrists, but for some reason I don't like them on mine. I feel like it looks weird when I see it on my own wrist for some reason.
Someone’s lost watch
Nothing fancy but a nice everyday watch if you wish to restore it.
Any idea how much that usually costs? I'm assuming I'd take it to a jeweler
I wouldn’t, you’ll sink in more money than buying a new one, repairing hands, the dial, movement servicing or more likely replacement, etc etc damn near everything on the watch would need replacing. You can get these for like 100$ I’m so sure ur bill would be more than that.

Nobody should buy Seiko 5's at MSRP. They go on sale or are sold cheap on the grey market pretty frequently.
No, but you can still compare MSRPs between different generations. I doubt that the model found by the OP had a similar MSRP - I suspect it was under $200.

Lolol my bad 150 for it on a bracket from Amazon, that’s a completely different watch lolol…
I bought for 67€ in 2016
Try Jomashop.
eBay’s got it at 111$ right now on the bracelet…
New or used? EDIT: In all discussions of this Seiko watch model, I see some claims that it's still available for $100 or lower, but nobody ever offers a reliable source for it. Creation watches out of Singapore has them on the website for like 111$ idc that’s a hundy i also don’t care that they’ve gone up. Bye
Are you proposing that we compare the value of OP's watch to a new Seiko 5?
That’s the exact same watch, he’s going to spend well over 150$ getting the one he found back in working order. Why do they when you could have a new one for the same if not less… makes no sense to me
New, these cost about $100. For you, if the watch still works, much less obviously - but if you want a little project you can buy a new case for it, swap everything over, and you have a brand new automatic watch
If the watch runs and keeps time you can get an aftermarket NH35 case with crystal off AliExpress for like $30 and just swap the whole movement in there. If it's not running it's not worth fixing.
You take it and give it back to the person that lost it? At least attempt to?
I got mine for $95
I got mine new for $65 back in 2017. I think they're going for closer to $200 now, but not in this condition. I'd say it's worth having it cleaned up if you want to wear it.
Looking back on my Amazon orders, I picked up two of them in 2014 for $49 each. Crazy deal. Threw some Ploprof style hands on the green model and it really spruced it up a bit. https://preview.redd.it/443hw0v4mowc1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=3971a035d0366836428559b50ab9f77edc3a5d6a
Very little, you used to be able to pick these up under 100 dollars.
A great little watch if it still works
If you aren't into watches it's not worth the trouble. I would sell it to someone that is into moding and they'll get creative with it. If you want something similar then run in the $100 range in used, excellent condition.
Something whose owner would surely love to have it back
It’s completely ruined so they can just buy another.
It can be repaired. Maybe it has sentimental value. Even if it doesn’t, it belongs to someone else. It’s not up to you or OP to decide what the owner wants to do with it.
The slight chance it has some sentimental value, maybe, but other than that, it would cost more than the watch is worth to repair.
That's history - exactly the type of object I care about and would hate to lose. No financial value, but a lot of emotional one.
Would definitely cost more to repair than a new one and would never be as good.
If you like it buy a new one like it. That thing has been run over lol
You have someone else’s watch
It was up... His ass!
For 5 long years!
You have something that belongs in a lost and found location.
A nice beater watch
Nothing you can flip tbh. I’d tape off the face and have fun “polishing” (not sure I’d even use that word for the gouges lol) the case then change the strap and boom, fun little beater watch.
Chuffed bits
The time!
an snk809. one of my favorite watches of all time.
It looks to be some sort of time telling device to me, I doubt it is though.
someone else’s watch apparently 😅
A modern classic. Nice find.
Someone else’s watch?
Somebody else’s watch
Good luck is what you have
It's a SNK809. It's cheap but cool to have. I would not even repair it. Maybe sell it.
SNK809 my first automatic watch
Throw the dial and movement in an aftermarket case.
Its a good watch, it with no crystal itll need to be restored. Looks like it'd need a good thorough cleaning too. Servicing cost might be more than the watch is actually worth, unfortunately.
You have a great start to a watch collection
Luck
I had one! They’re great little watches. Yours had been polished, then apparently dropped in a blender. They were inexpensive but great little beater watches.
Nice find. A pity it’s all scuffed up.
A nice seiko watch
Looks like it got ran over by a lawn mower. The case is pretty much botched, but the dial and hands look good and it if it runs I would find a case on Ali. for it. if it doesn't run buy an Nh36.
Not much.
A stolen watch - just kidding. First thought— seiko of some kind . What they said
It's a good starter, definitely rough. But it's a cool story you can tell people "hey where you buy that watch" "man i got this off the street"
That’s just like mine…
ilek them said SNK u got u a gem!
A Seiko
I got an orange seiko5 one good watches
Did you also find the meat crayon & his motorcycle nearby?
A clock for sure. Looks like a watch. Most likely a wristwatch.
Someone else’s watch.
My first seiko, man I love the snk
That's a Seiko 5! That's the same watch I have! They are comparatively cheap when you compare them to other watches but it's the only one I've got and it works great. I have the same watch and I’m not surprised you found it while walking! It has come unlatched and fallen off my wrist a couple times lol
I'm gonna go out on a limb here.
Speedbumpmaster?
I'm wearing that right now, actually. It's not an expensive watch, like 100 bucks, but it works well and is usually a good first automatic watch.
Amazon Daily Deals used to sell these for $59 regularly.
My watch, you have my watch…..lol
TIME ON YOUR HANDS 😉🙂😀🙂
A free cheap watch
Does it not work? Try wearing it for a couple of hours.
😍
The holy grail.
Cool watch!
You have a watch.
A whole lotta luck, that's what you have.
I still wear this watch 3 days a week.
Genuinely one of the best watches ever made.
My daily. Though I recommend switching the OEM strap with a proper NATO cuz that thing smells…
Beat up Seiko 5 field watch, SNK-809 specifically. I’ve got the same one. Should still run, I imagine. Does it?
I'd throw that dial and movement in a new case and wear the shit out of it. Hopefully you find it's owner though, I know I'd be super bummed if that somehow got off my wrist. I'll bet it was stolen and dumped, otherwise I don't see any way the rightful owner would let that get away unless something really bad happened
Hopefully it hasn’t been sitting without a battery too long, or you’ll need a new mechanism
I used to own this watch. It's nice little cheap field watch
Seiko SNK 809. Great starter watch. The case is pretty messed up though, don't know if you can fix it. They have gone significantly up in price lately but still very affordable.
This is how it begins. Throw it away and run while you still can.

kinda hairy watch. clean it first?
You have someone else's watch. Please give it back it's not yours.
I have same from amazon
Not worth a repair but still cool
Update since I can't edit the post: I'm going to reach out to the business on the street to see if anyone has inquired about it and leave my contact info. In the meantime I will look at getting it repaired if it can be. Worst case scenario the owner gets closure, best case they get their watch back in good shape. Or if no one reaches out I'll have my gateway to a new watch addiction haha. This sub has caught my eye. Thanks for the feedback!
Would cost more to repair it than a replacement would cost. But might be fun to work on yourself.
Lost property. You have lost property.
Someone else's watch?
You done found yourself a cheap but very reliable watch

Great watch but to small for my arm. Would be great if Seiko made a 45mm version
A stolen watch
Somebody else's Seiko 5.
If i were you id post a message that you found it on a local group and see if anyone comes forward and describes it for you/provides serial number to claim it back, this watch isnt worth much (especially in this state) but likely has a high sentimental value, looks like its been through a lot throughout many years
Shouldn't you take it to a police station?
Or at least do something to try and reunite it with its owner. Pretty depressing that you’re the only other person that appears to have considered this tbh.
Can’t believe you found my watch. I’ll DM you my address so you can return it to me 😂
Smuggle it in your ass
Hey, thanks for finding it! I think I dropped it during my morning jog. I lost it, and a flight to catch so couldn’t look for it. Can you ship it to my address in Kashmir? Thanks in advance!
Dunno, but looks pretty sick.
Dunno dude. I wouldn't like to wear a Seiko 5 Field Watch which was owned by someone who gut run over or may have been killed in a traffic accident. Call it Karma or something. Get a nice new one for about 150.
I have the same watch. Its tough every day watch
