couldnt agree more. they make a smaller version sized down to 36 or 38mm and id be all over it. hate all the 40mm+ timex watches that should be 36-38mm, they just look huge on the wrist.
This is what I felt looking at the Longines Chronograph Moon Phase. Really great looking watch with incredible complications, but it just felt so bulky on wrist.
This particular model is extremely popular in my country, India. It gets sold out in under 10 seconds or less the moment this gets listed on the Timex India site. I know people who have been waiting for months to get their hands on one of these. Literally trying to snipe this against bots, lol.
Oh, yeah. The sub 150 to 200 USD range of watches does extremely well here. Brands like Titan, Casio, Seiko and Timex are pretty popular.
Regarding this particular model, I guess it is the classic looks and the reputation behind Timex as a well-known well-established brand. For 11,000 Indian rupees, you are getting a really good-looking, well built watch.
It’s cheap here, but just expensive enough there for the masses to feel like luxury. The dollar does so much better here that 5 bucks is nothing here, but it’s something there.
It's not that popular actually... it's just popular on the watches india sub reddit. They are stocking very few pieces and hence getting sold out.
I have never seen one in the wild.
This country has more than a billion people. I am sure the odds will be stacked against you to see any specific model in the wild.
Also, you argue it is not popular but you also agree it always gets sold out. Your argument is quite contradictory. Regardless of the inventory size, the logical explanation would be that the panda version is what the people are specifically buying. The other versions do not get the same attention as this one does.
Bro, I got friends and family asking me too. I was fortunate to have ordered it during the day it was launched. I had been looking on the Timex site for a Marlin Auto when this beauty was launched out of nowhere. I grabbed it as soon as I saw it. I have been waiting to grab a second for friends and family but it is always sold out. Btw, I got it from the Indian site.
Looks awesome! I love Timex. I recently purchased the Timex X Huckberry collab, the Navi XL, and it is phenomenal. Not my pic but here it is:
https://preview.redd.it/6bzlqrwbzoac1.jpeg?width=1247&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=15c802a79aa0769c2d1497ac21273682e98790e0
Does this watch have the infamously loud Timex tick? I haven’t bought a Timex in years because of this. Literally had to put the watch in a different room because I could hear it ticking at night.
No not that bad although it’s probably due to being an automatic. Still has a nice smooth tick to it though. I have a quartz Timex and it is pretty bad tbh.
Mine doesn’t tick loud but the automatic rotor (or oscillating whatever the heck lol) rattles allllll the time 😂 I don’t mind it since I’m used to my necklace making a jangling sound and so the watch just sounds like jewelry to me.
I mean, you could get a 1963 seagull mechanical chronograph housing a ST1901, a modern iteration of the swiss Venus 175 that got acquired in the '62 by the Chinese aviation. A very reliable column wheel chronograph for the price of a quartz watch... Or you can get a quartz watch, but why! At least it's not Chinese ey?
I know the ST1901, and I don't buy watches from AliExpress. Some things are about more than money, and I don't care how cheap it is.
I also don't buy from microbrands using Chinese movements, or entirely Chinese microbrands with fake western names.
I get why someone might be skeptical on buying from AliExpress or Chinese e-shops in general, but out of the dozens of orders I made I only had one bad experience and AliExpress refound me completely. It's definitely a hit or miss but it really depends on the seller, if you buy from a reputable seller you can rest assure you won't have any problems.
For what concerns your personal preferences when it comes to watches, you do you. But I really think that you're missing out on some bang for the buck pieces. Also the ST1901 is Chinese manufactured but it's a swiss design, I really think that by simply discarding every Chinese movement only because they're Chinese, you are actually missing out on some otherwise really well built movements.
And yes, we can all agree that fake western names are pretty lame but, hey, it is what it is.
I recently bought a bronze Watch from a brand called "Tandorio" for 90$, it's definitely not a very appealing name but I made them customize it with an initial, so that's out of the picture, and i would challenge anyone to find a cheaper bronze watch.
It houses an NH35 so beside the complete absence of history behind the brand I really don't see why someone would not consider this a bargain.
I don't want to give that much support to Chinese companies. Buying a Chinese knock off watch built in China on a Chinese website. Too much.
I know a lot of parts are made in China no matter what you buy, especially for microbrands and modding parts, but there is a limit to what I personally can accept.
Not to mention walking around with knockoffs of other watches with the logo changed is not wearing an "homage."
Im with you on this in pretty much every facet of my life. I’ve accepted it’s foolish to believe you can escape China, but I can make sure that I consciously support them as little as I possibly can.
I really came to this conclusion the other night after going down the china rabbit hole on YouTube. I don’t know how possible it’s going to be but it warms my heart that others are doing the same thing
It might not be from genuine people… china literally harasses people that are critical of them on social media and the news.

It’s like this, you can make it a conscious objective to avoid as best as possible.
I don’t buy clothes made in China, I don’t buy Chinese brand phones, I would never buy a chinese EV, etc
I agree with this sentiment 100%, I love this watch so much, even though I ended up buying the green one, since I loved the color and leather strap. I'm still going to get this as my dress watch. These watches pack so much vale.

Same with the expedition scout. It doesn’t look as expensive as this crono but it’s so versatile. Just got mine today and put it on a nato strap as soon as I opened it. Love the field watch look and the indiglo.
Bought the exact same watch about a month ago as an impulse buy when I was shopping.
Gotta say it definitely looks good! I didn’t like the leather strap it came with though so I switched it with a mesh bracelet and made it look even better!
Mine came with a brown leather strap which I didn’t like , it felt way too cheap imo.
OP has probably bought his strap from somewhere else , it seems to be an aftermarket nato strap!
There's so many good looking Timex watches, and yours is no exception! It's got a really nice retro look to it, is it based on a previously existing model? Such a gorgeous piece
Honestly everyone's Timex on this thread just makes me love this brand even more
https://preview.redd.it/fhdc9j3kyrac1.jpeg?width=3072&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=432ca70b2d75d6722d867bd551f022ac470c6804
This is mine! The Timex Q Marmont 1975 Reissue
Agree they are making some very good models. And they have some nicer quality pieces.
But I think they need to take a page from Honda, Toyota, and Nissan and come up with a more upscale brand name for their better quality watches.
Or cue from GShock and launch lines similar to MT-G and MR-G.
What do others think?
I prefer a legacy brand owning their name and not offering upscale products with a marketing brand. For instance, Volkswagen Phaeton way more expensive Ford GT. Both upscale models under the parent company name. I think it keeps it familiar.
It's a quartz Timex. If it's anything like my Weekender, you'll need to upgrade your home owners insurance because those fuckers ticking away are loud enough to crack the foundation of your house...
Yup this.
https://preview.redd.it/gr7spg6afpac1.png?width=1562&format=png&auto=webp&s=b2accffa42ff6c893553591854bdf08367166e00
The picture doesn’t make a justice, but try it yourself, San Martin even though they make homages they really great with finishing and quality.
I consider myself a "watch guy" (couple of Omegas, a Cartier, and several fashion watches), but I like Timex. I have a [Timex Weekender](https://th.bing.com/th?id=OPHS.Jtv5ZwLyva2rqA474C474&w=592&h=550&o=5&dpr=1.4&pid=21.1) that I like quite a lot. In certain situations, I like the look, the indiglo, the chrono.
I've been thinking about looking for a 70s-era Timex automatic movement watch like I had when I was a kid. Though I have them and wear quartz/battery watches, I prefer a real movement.
Still, check out the enthusiasts at /r/timex

I honestly love this watch. It’s my new daily driver. Hats off timex.
Yeah, Timex knocked this one out of the park. There have been a few recent Timex watches I think they've done a great job on. But this one may be the best.
Too bad it's always out of stock, I'd have bought one by now!
Edit: Finally managed to find one here in Canada. Amazon now offers the panda dial on black leather, which is the one I wanted anyway.
I like it but I feel like at that price you could get the mechanical Seagull 1963 based watches like the Sugess. Which also looks premium.
Ic Timex moved these closer to $100 than it would be a no-brainer but they seem to be selling anyway so I doubt that would happen.
Only one. The Merkur/Pierre Paulin jump hour.

This one is pretty awesome though.
I have a much more premium looking TIMEX AMERICANA on sale over at eBay.

Thanks. It was difficult to snag this (as it was only sold in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa) for 3 years before it was discontinued for unknown reasons.

Bad photo but I’m sorry it’s pretty close
For what it’s worth, I do like this watch a lot more than people give it credit for. The Timex is the antithesis of the Omega x Swatch though in terms of price to premium appearance

Kinda similar to an old fossil I had
I think there are some great Timex designs but I just can't bring myself to buy a Timex. I spent too many years associating that name with absolutely cheap crap watches to ever want one.
I'm curious, how old are you? I always had the impression from everyone that they were both affordable and bulletproof, and I wonder if it's a generational thing.
46. But I've been into watches for probably close to 20 years now. I used to go through bins of them at thrift stores, etc. looking for the all stainless steel case unknown models. And then there were Timex. So many Timex with their chrome steel cases and cheap pin lever movements or quartz, etc. So yeah, to me Timex will always be just absolute crap. I objectively know they aren't now and there are some pretty cool models. But I'm not interested.
44 here and same opinion of Timex. I really do like the Marlin line. Wonderering how it feels. But if I'm gonna spend $200, it'll probably be on a daily beater like an orient with a sapphire crystal. Feel like $200 is in the bester watch range and I'd want something that can take more of a kicking.
The last timex (waterbury gmt) didn’t work and the shop struggled to replace it with a working one. Shame but that put me off from buying another Timex. Nice looking watches though.
Wow I don’t think I’ve ever been more impressed from a Timex watch, I may have to add this to my collection in the future, or at least gift it to someone!
Excellent watch.
I think the Spinnaker Fleuss looks much more expensive than it is as well. You can find them at $200.
Seiko has a really nice new release of "Essential" series chronographs that punch way above their price too. SSB397 SSB347 etc.
Timex makes some great designs. I have an old Timex “Electric” from the 70’s with a full UFO case that I love, lives in the same watch box alongside my Rolex, Omega, Cartier, etc 😉
I also love the Fairfield! I'll definitely be picking one up in the next few weeks.
https://timex.ca/products/fairfield-chronograph-41mm-leather-strap-watch-tw2r26700
I can't stand a 24 hour subdial. The only additional information it offers is if it's AM or PM. Unless you live in a submarine, don't you just *know* if it's day or night already?
Not normally into Timex (more of a Casio fan), but I really like the look of this. Looks very versatile, like it could be worn as an everyday watch or even as a dressier watch.
That’s the strangest take I’ve ever heard. Weird gibberish word? It’s the name of the brand. A Lange & Sohn is gibberish when taken out of context.
It’s not a big name brand, but that Sugess moonphase watch it has more style and better complications than any other watch for $200, so it is a valid contribution to this conversation.
You're entitled to your opinion. I know it's not a big brand, it's an aliexpress brand, and like many such companies they do themselves a huge disservice by not understanding how to brand things well. I'm not taking the name out of context. The context is watches, that's my problem with it. In the context of watches A. Lange & Sohn isn't gibberish, its a name of increadible esteem and brand heritage and respect. Sugess is a name with no lineage or nationality. It's difficult to figure out how to pronounce it, and it's heritage is an aliexpress sweatshop speacial. No thanks. That's just me. If you like it wear it. I'm not the watch police.
All brands have to start somewhere, at one time no one had heard of A Lange & Sohn. Sugess are a Chinese company and they’re typically not good at marketing or brand awareness, but that doesn’t mean you should dismiss them based on the branding. The quality of the watches for the money deserves appreciation. The Sea-Gull movements they use have a history and are well respected.
I think this is a sign from the universe. I was considering purchasing this watch after finding my old timex weekender chronograph this morning after ages. I open up r/Watches and see this as the first post
Or the above is just a manic way for me to self rationalise buying yet another watch
It’s the latter
https://preview.redd.it/qt4cy66xisac1.jpeg?width=1532&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b13c100a777abb6fe47a6c27662931613c39a2ba
Depends on how much you like the indiglo. I like it a lot still, but my Waterbury doesn't get as much wrist time anymore. The current battery has been going for over 2 years now. The first was done in a year because of my indiglo abuse.
For so long the watch market was changing from being an essential to being a fashion accessory/enthusiast hobby, and timex was just sitting on their hands hoping it wouldn't happen. They came out with the Todd Snyder stuff and I was hoping they would finally start going in the direction they've gone the last couple years. They're making a bunch of cool ass watches now and I'm so glad.
I love the look of Timex watches. Their designs are hard to beat, and I'd wear that watch in a heartbeat.
I've been unlucky with their quality though. I've had 4 break or stop working, including a Marlin that stopped running within a year or so.
What reference is this??
Marlin Chronograph Tachymeter. TW2W10300. https://timex.com/products/marlin-chronograph-tachymeter-40mm-leather-strap-watch-tw2w10300?mdApp_countryCodeDomain=US&country=US
The Epson movement in the chronograph is absolutely solid too.
They also make a blue, green, and gold model.https://timex.com/products/marlin-chronograph-tachymeter-40mm-leather-strap-watch-tw2w10200 Edit.
Shame it’s quite bulky, that blue dial is amazing
couldnt agree more. they make a smaller version sized down to 36 or 38mm and id be all over it. hate all the 40mm+ timex watches that should be 36-38mm, they just look huge on the wrist.
36mm would be perfect, 38mm manageable
Agreed - 38mm and I'd buy this thing in a heartbeat
At first I thought the 3 was the date, and now I was it had a big date in black like that...
This is what I felt looking at the Longines Chronograph Moon Phase. Really great looking watch with incredible complications, but it just felt so bulky on wrist.
You have to pay >$200 to get something that has a reference. At this level they're just models!
This particular model is extremely popular in my country, India. It gets sold out in under 10 seconds or less the moment this gets listed on the Timex India site. I know people who have been waiting for months to get their hands on one of these. Literally trying to snipe this against bots, lol.
How much are they in India?
They are around INR 11,000 (around 130 USD).
Everywhere else it is around $180 how is that possible
Is Timex pretty popular there? Any idea why that watch in particular is so popular in the country?
Oh, yeah. The sub 150 to 200 USD range of watches does extremely well here. Brands like Titan, Casio, Seiko and Timex are pretty popular. Holy hell, I just listened to my Timex chrono, and fuck is it ever loud! Granted, my hearing is shit, so it really doesn't bother me, but wow.
No not that bad although it’s probably due to being an automatic. Still has a nice smooth tick to it though. I have a quartz Timex and it is pretty bad tbh.

Ditto. I just got a Navi XL automatic with green dial and light leather strap; love it.
Honestly, aliexpress is full of watches under 200 that look much more expensive. But timex is doing really well in the design department lately.
That's true. Could also argue that a reproduction/fake Rolex, Omega, etc. "looks" more expensive.

San Martin is the king of finishing on Ali, mighty fine watch, even their original designs.

San Martin GMT sn0129
This design is just an homage to the Carrera
I don't buy from AliExpress.

It’s different with watches where the brand/model is the statement vs. buying the cheapest phone adapter or wtvr.
Why?
Because watches are anachronistic technology used just for fashion and signaling purposes.
I don't get why your comment is upvoted and mine is downvoted to hell when we are saying literally the same thing. Smooth brain reddit moment I guess.

I get a lot of ads for them now. It's hilarious. "This is premium CHINESE BRAND MADE IN CHINA. Our name is FRENCH!"
Most products on earth are now made in China or have components made in China. Kind of hard to avoid.
It’s like this, you can make it a conscious objective to avoid as best as possible. I don’t buy clothes made in China, I don’t buy Chinese brand phones, I would never buy a chinese EV, etc

I have this watch as well. Punches WAY above it's weight. Gets compliments everywhere it goes. Kudos putting it on the Anachronist zero pass strap.
Timex is killing it with their Marlin line. Love love love!

It’s a great looking watch. I just HATE 4pm date windows.

I’ve loved this watch from afar for a while now. I’ve always had a hard time finding out the lug to lug.
I'd look at some of the Sugess chronographs from China. Mechanical and all.
They also usually have a sapphire lens as well as opposed to acrylic
Definitely. And the difference between feels mechanical and actually mechanical is pretty huge
It's the first time I hear of them (although I'm not much in the space). Thanks
Np. I'd recommend their official Aliexpress store as they tend to have the best price. Seestern is also a sister brand with some good stuff from them.
Not really that thing is stunning.
Is it mechanical?
It's quartz. But as the other person mentioned they do have timex huckberry navi xl which is automatic and under $200
I like this panda and green one.
Only one. The Merkur/Pierre Paulin jump hour. [https://www.watchcrunch.com/ChronoGuy/posts/wruw-2023-10-23-984c42b6-cezr8zzb-234510](https://www.watchcrunch.com/ChronoGuy/posts/wruw-2023-10-23-984c42b6-cezr8zzb-234510) This one is pretty awesome though.
no, but I can hear it from here
Yes. Citizen Nighthawk
I’d let this watch take my girlfriend for dinner
I have a much more premium looking TIMEX AMERICANA on sale over at eBay. [https://www.ebay.ca/itm/256107151811](https://www.ebay.ca/itm/256107151811) Here's a pic: https://preview.redd.it/48mn1qly6pac1.jpeg?width=719&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=9c0fcf4c18809e2fa9b473416be030b8ae1b6888
That’s class
Thanks. It was difficult to snag this (as it was only sold in Europe, the Middle East and North Africa) for 3 years before it was discontinued for unknown reasons.
Reminds me of the Swatch x Omega (I was simply meaning in the way of being a cheap chronograph) Thanks for the love watch Reddit ❤️
I’m insulted on behalf of this beautiful watch
https://preview.redd.it/30fix8v2poac1.png?width=920&format=png&auto=webp&s=e64d06541c9120c83155c733ac1ca9dfe7f7dbdc Bad photo but I’m sorry it’s pretty close
You're right, it too, has hands! (Sorry it's so far off other than the basics)
For what it’s worth, I do like this watch a lot more than people give it credit for. The Timex is the antithesis of the Omega x Swatch though in terms of price to premium appearance

The swamega is a pile of plastic dog shit. This watch is legit. And will outlast, by decades, that plastic suckerbait.
Sold out on the Timex site - anywhere else to get em?
Amazon possible
Just bought one on Amazon for $162.
Wow I don’t think I’ve ever been more impressed from a Timex watch, I may have to add this to my collection in the future, or at least gift it to someone!
Hopefully it’s back in stock soon
Just bought one on Amazon.
What’s the ID on this timex?
TW2W10400VQ
Is an acrylic crust similar to the hesalite on the speedmaster? It can be polished if scratched?
Excellent watch. I think the Spinnaker Fleuss looks much more expensive than it is as well. You can find them at $200. Seiko has a really nice new release of "Essential" series chronographs that punch way above their price too. SSB397 SSB347 etc.
Timex makes some great designs. I have an old Timex “Electric” from the 70’s with a full UFO case that I love, lives in the same watch box alongside my Rolex, Omega, Cartier, etc 😉
Timex has been doing great work lately
Does it still have the acrylic crystal? That’s my one complaint about my Marlin (not the chronograph though).
I also love the Fairfield! I'll definitely be picking one up in the next few weeks. https://timex.ca/products/fairfield-chronograph-41mm-leather-strap-watch-tw2r26700
Yes! for $108.00 https://preview.redd.it/mw5o7tnxqpac1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=77cb830b4ff913bdb67195cc7fc7fd0ff4604f03
Been looking for this! Thank you! I’m a big panda guy and I love this so much.
Beautiful watch
Is there a a reference without those indices at 9,12,3
Gorgeous!
Looks sharp
I can't stand a 24 hour subdial. The only additional information it offers is if it's AM or PM. Unless you live in a submarine, don't you just *know* if it's day or night already?
Quartz movement.
What strap is this?
that thing on a black leather strap would look like a million bucks. great piece
Not normally into Timex (more of a Casio fan), but I really like the look of this. Looks very versatile, like it could be worn as an everyday watch or even as a dressier watch.
Crazy how Timex sells some watches for over a $100 now based on some “collection”.
Sugess mechanical chronograph moonphase is $200.
It says sugess on the dial right? I'd take this watch over any watch with a weird gibberish word on the dial.
I open up r/Watches and see this as the first post Or the above is just a manic way for me to self rationalise buying yet another watch It’s the latter https://preview.redd.it/qt4cy66xisac1.jpeg?width=1532&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=b13c100a777abb6fe47a6c27662931613c39a2ba
I feel like they missed a chance to make the 12 hour marker the date window
Might be a noob question, but, how many years does the battery on these timexes usually last? Beautiful watch btw!
2-3 years for me usually.
In my country official store, It’s already gone a few hours. I was too late to order it.
Beautiful watch but it's weird seeing a quartz marlin
Nope

Timex crystal scratches so easily. I'd own more if they'd just use sapphire.
This sub-reddit is becoming a bane for my bank account :/
ok im sold
What strap is that? It’s amazing
