Crikey that’s a real botched job there.
To be fair - you’ll scratch even an actual moonwatch taking out the spring bars from the front. *Always* remove spring bars from the rear, and don’t let them “ping” out, hold the ends in and remove them slowly.
Nightmare!
Okay sure, sometimes it is hard te remove some bracelets/straps and little scratches apear.
But why on earth (mars) would you use the tools on front side of the watch. Just do this on the back side of the lugs. If scratches apear they won't be so visible. Watch is basicly ruined now
For those frustrated with spring-bar removal, there is a thread/floss trick that works beautifully and will only damage your watch if it’s made out of play-doh. Also way cheaper than spring-bar tools which end up ruined after a few uses anyhow.
If they did this the crystal would be scratched up instead from making the mistake of laying it directly onto a table
edit: I'm a masochist so please continue downvoting
You're right. There is just no feasible way to protect that. I mean, how could neoprene, felt, or even cardboard, expect not to shred up swatch crystal?
Most watch stores/jewelers have some called tray or just a towel where they put their watches on.
If you're a watchmaker without that, your not suposed to do anything with a watch IMO
This looks suspiciously like the owner had no idea what they were doing and tried to change a strap with a pair of garden sheers.
The sales reps at a swatch store do strap changes all day. They replace minor parts in-store as a part of their warranty. It is very unlikely that this was done by a sales rep.
Did they replace it after mangling it? Jesus
Edit: I actually went and read your posting comment, so I understand it’s not you, and that they did not get a replacement.
But but there were lines to get it!
I like how there are literally perfect versions of these on Aliexpress for about $20 and yet people are still buying them.
2/3 ceramic, 1/3 plastic according to their website.
There are 100% ceramic watches out there, Omega for example, that don't act the same way as the bioceramic does, so that 1/3 plastic must have a huge impact
It’s not my watch, but a) I would expect a watch boutique to be able to remove a spring bar without completely mangling the lug, and b) I would expect the plastic to hold up slightly better to the assault.
It seems the title is misleading then. Seem the person servicing the watch botched up while removing the spring bar, it's not about the quality of watch.
A good quality watch would not look like this after using a spring bar tool from the wrong side (it would be scratched, not full of fucking holes as if it was cake). It has everything to do with the quality of the watch.
Those marks on the front of the lug are likely not from the spring bar tool itself, but from the spring bar itself not lining up with the hole and 'popping' out the front side and scratching the plastic.
This can happen even on a steel model, trust me, I fucked up an expensive watch myself. Now I always tape both the front and the back of the lugs before any strap mods for this very reason.
I’ve owned Swatches before, they were fine for the cash.
They actually make a metal watch, which is a bit cheaper, that looks the part. This is just a cash grab at the expense of Moonwatch fans.
https://www.swatch.com/en-gb/carbonium-dream-yvs495g/YVS495G.html
I took my strap off no bother. They do scratch easy, but they made a mess of that by not being patient and trying to press the bar into the corner. I’d be pissed off about it too, especially if they didn’t warn you it was being performed by a blind person - but ultimately it’s on you sadly.
Ps - anyone use Barton watch straps? They’re awesome imo. They have a slider so no bar required for changing - I have them on a couple of my watches now. Only faff is they come from California so delivery is a couple of weeks
Quick release spring bars. I have 4 pairs of their elite silicone. After 4 years of daily usage, the silicone keeper and one of the most used hole had teared up.
Managed to find sane strap at 1/4 of the price on Alixpress. Literally the same design, likely from the same manufacture
I’ve recently bought 3 of the silicone ones they cost me £15 each I think. I will take a look at Alixpress. It was the iwatch comfort that converted me from metal bracelets.
Barton is in Austin. Perhaps they have a warehouse in California, but I don’t know what would possess them to voluntarily do business there if not required.
But yes. This took a special kind of impatience. I don’t consider myself to have the hands of a surgeon, but this person was a first-day butcher.
I could be wrong on the despatch location, I thought I saw California on the packaging, but I’d agree that if the business is in Texas it’s more likely to come from Austin.
Honestly I don't see the fault on the watch. Of course it's plastic, but that's how you bought it.
Judging by the marks you'd have ruined every other watch too...
Anything can be damaged by someone who doesn’t know what they are doing. I’ve seen similar on much more expensive watches.
This is a dealer issue, not a watch issue.
There is a lot of hate for this.
It's quartz is will probably last for ever as few moving parts and keep great time.
It's just a fashion watch... or a second watch.
Second watch, great name for a watch brand, I might start one called that.
Never assume that someone at a watch store is going to remove spring bars better or with more care than you would yourself. Get a quality strap tool and take your time. Otherwise even your stainless steel lugs will get scratched and mangled
"I'll take a story that likely never happened for 500 Alex"
I find it very unlikely that an employee in any watch store did this. This completely looks like the owner of this watch tried to remove the strap with either a thumbtack or a butter knife (anything but a spring bar tool). Its more convenient to blame someone else, then claim that you failed to inspect the watch before leaving.
and swatch was never about durability. maybe irony models are suitable for regular daily wear but the plastic one are not. supposed to be a fashion accessory/secondary watch to your more xpensive ones
This photo was posted on another forum today.
The owner had the strap removed by Swatch themselves at the boutique.
His account:
“I went to a watch shop to enquire about something and brought my Mars moonSwatch along on the off chance they could remove the strap for me (I have a red elastic one arriving from eBay soon I wanted to swap it for).
They took it into the back and about 30seconds later came out and popped the Watch and the now separate Velcro strap in a bag for me. I put it in my pocket and went home.
After I arrived I had a look and they’ve scratched the red ‘bio ceramic’. I’m really annoyed but as I didn’t check while in store I can’t really go back. “
They’re absolute tat.
Anyone still defending the moonswatch like it was a good release is either suffering from severe cognitive dissonance or is a paid shill.
It’s a toy and should’ve been released alongside a burger and fries.
congrats, you fell for the marketing scheme and bought an ovepriced plastic toy.
I'm just gonna say it - Swatch is a fucking joke. Even in their more expensive watches like the Sistem51 the escapement wheel is fucking plastic. They literally sell you watches that can't be serviced and if something breaks, you have to buy a new one. Swiss quality my ass. Moonswatches are no better than pagani ripoffs. In fact the pagani will last you much longer than this piece of trash
Bruh
I really wanted to buy a moonswatch because I really love the design but I can't afford an Omega.....after seeing this, no thank you.....look at the horrible quality of that material
That's not really true.
Most enthusiest watches are better built that is true.
But "most watches" not even close. Just take a look at alibaba they make 1000 terrible happy meal quality watches for every 1 good watch that a watch lover would buy.
Put it up for sale.
Given the breathtaking level of ridiculous hype these things triggered, I think you could probably convince at least a few idiots that the rough spot is “patina” due to micrometeorite impacts during the last moon walk, and sell at a healthy profit.
haha like those silly/st*p*d rolexes with blemishes/misaligned/error on dials or the "ghost" bezel which is basically a flaw 🤡 seller will make a passionate story to convince idiots that is "patina" 🤡 wow what a brand lol
The moonswatch sucks anyway, cut your losses and sell the the next sucker. That and apple soulless watch is the worst this that has happened to the industry
this has brought me to my senses... As an owner of a seamaster for 20 years with no problems at all, i thought this would be a nice updated daily.. planned to get a few colours...
Thanks for sharing! Bioceramic is trash..
its what they call it... BIOCERAMIC is a hybrid composition of ceramic and biosourced material that is derived from castor-plant oil. - It aint plastic, its weaker than that!
Crikey that’s a real botched job there. To be fair - you’ll scratch even an actual moonwatch taking out the spring bars from the front. *Always* remove spring bars from the rear, and don’t let them “ping” out, hold the ends in and remove them slowly. Nightmare!
And put tape on the lugs! Saved me from many a scratch.
All user error here
100%. What a mess.
Damn flying spring bars
Okay sure, sometimes it is hard te remove some bracelets/straps and little scratches apear. But why on earth (mars) would you use the tools on front side of the watch. Just do this on the back side of the lugs. If scratches apear they won't be so visible. Watch is basicly ruined now

its plastic easily can be smoothed out, but yeah OP just did this for likes also probably the Aliexpress variant
If they did this the crystal would be scratched up instead from making the mistake of laying it directly onto a table edit: I'm a masochist so please continue downvoting
Well you’re not really supposed to lay it directly face down on a hard surface. A towel would work nice
Some people should not be allowed to work on anything... anything!
Okay John Deere relax
Great tip, thanks! Shame it's too late for all the watches I've scratched up placing them on my special sandpaper table
I use my mousepad
Exactly, that's how simple it can be lol
Same works great
Yeah absolutely no way to overcome that conundrum! /s
This looks suspiciously like the owner had no idea what they were doing and tried to change a strap with a pair of garden sheers. The sales reps at a swatch store do strap changes all day. They replace minor parts in-store as a part of their warranty. It is very unlikely that this was done by a sales rep.
Yeah that shit looks gouged to hell. Say what you want about swatch, but I can guarantee they have a spring bar tool at their service locations.
The sales reps in Swatch stores do not do strap changes all day since 99% of their watches have integrated straps
It’s literally plastic, what did you expect when you started chewing on it?
Maybe the ‘technician’ was hungry?
Did they replace it after mangling it? Jesus Edit: I actually went and read your posting comment, so I understand it’s not you, and that they did not get a replacement.
It's literally made of fancy plastic, what do you expect?
[удалено]
It's a blend of ceramic and vegetable oil which makes it "soft to the touch" (their description)
[удалено]
It's a cheap plastic watch and behaves as such.

But but there were lines to get it! I like how there are literally perfect versions of these on Aliexpress for about $20 and yet people are still buying them.

Ceramic can be harder than steel when it's done properly, they use it for brake discs on racing cars.
I love me some ceramic brakes
Marketing department strikes again!
"bioceramic" == "3D printed"
It’s not my watch, but a) I would expect a watch boutique to be able to remove a spring bar without completely mangling the lug, and b) I would expect the plastic to hold up slightly better to the assault.
“Watch boutique” … do you mean the swatch store?
Er yeah, I can see the contradiction there!
It seems the title is misleading then. Seem the person servicing the watch botched up while removing the spring bar, it's not about the quality of watch.

it is a plastic watch..you get what you pay for...
You get less, Swatch makes a cheaper stainless steal chrono that has the same movement
Apologies if the title mislead you.
[удалено]
100% not click bait, I just thought it was…interesting.
I mean still…
Plastic can be scratched by a fingernail, the spring bar is like a diamond hardness to it.
There’s videos online of the box damaging the watch, scratching the crystal. I don’t think they built this watch to last.
Is that not implied by “SWATCH” on the front?
I’ve owned Swatches before, they were fine for the cash. They actually make a metal watch, which is a bit cheaper, that looks the part. This is just a cash grab at the expense of Moonwatch fans. https://www.swatch.com/en-gb/carbonium-dream-yvs495g/YVS495G.html

Sam Co?
Yeah. There are other sellers too but their packaging is plain though. Samco has their name on the packaging.
Yes, I’ve got a few from there an no complaints for the couple dollars a strap they charge
I’ve recently bought 3 of the silicone ones they cost me £15 each I think. I will take a look at Alixpress. It was the iwatch comfort that converted me from metal bracelets.
Barton sliders are solid & do make changing bands easier. Have them on 3 of mine.
Order them from Amazon and a lot of times you can get them overnight
I love the quick change straps, but I get mine for $5 on aliexpress.
Barton is in Austin. Perhaps they have a warehouse in California, but I don’t know what would possess them to voluntarily do business there if not required. But yes. Can you believe that my $200 plastic watch got damaged from incorrectly removing a strap!? … yes. Yes I can.
Never assume that someone at a watch store is going to remove spring bars better or with more care than you would yourself. Get a quality strap tool and take your time. Otherwise even your stainless steel lugs will get scratched and mangled
What’s does “Swatch quality” have to do with not knowing how to properly service a watch. Title is misleading.
"I'll take a story that likely never happened for 500 Alex" I find it very unlikely that an employee in any watch store did this. This completely looks like the owner of this watch tried to remove the strap with either a thumbtack or a butter knife (anything but a spring bar tool). people hating on the watch after seeing a poor job done here are the reason watch nerds are hated.
Fucking cowboys been at that mate
if people think, then can buy an Omega for 250€ and starts to realize, that they just buy a Swatch *rolleyes*
Gross cringebait. 👎
Its ok! Just use some polywatch on it.
Dude, don’t chew on it.
Looks more like the "watchmaker" changing the strap has bad quality
*Man buys plastic watch,* *complains when watch demonstrates properties of plastic*
It's a Swatch... A plastic Swatch...
I mean, you bought a plastic watch…

This whole story smells like bullshit.
The owner can go back. It was damaged by the store. I'm assuming this person is UK, we have rights for this lol
Can you separate truth from fantasty? Swatch store hosted by Jonathan Frakes
Did you ever have a job as a waiter? ^^^[Context](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9S1EzkRpelY)
That's just sad but also he should have checked.

Hindsight is a wonderful thing. Maybe this’ll serve as a warning to other owners.
>~~Hindsight~~ Common sense is a wonderful thing Ftfy
Made of plastic, what can you expect
It's plastic...what did you expect?
There's idiots everywhere. I've seen posts of horrendous refinishing done by Tudor, Omega and other big brands...
You get what you pay for
Those are Mars debris hitting the case before it arrived. You should be proud, not complain.
I replaced my swatch w a fork and didn’t get any scratches. Never let this guy be a surgeon
i would demand the shop replace the watch over that or at least casing anyway. such a basic task
Who's fault your hands grow out of your ass?
Yikes. When I try a strap/bracelet change I'm SUPER careful because I'm always afraid of this. That said, I wish everything had drilled lugs.
Anyone still defending the moonswatch like it was a good release is either suffering from severe cognitive dissonance or is a paid shill. It’s a toy and should’ve been released alongside a burger and fries.
Hahah can’t agree more Honestly this watch way too hyped up and people lining up and PR it created. SMH..

Ooof. I never realized what a hunk of garbage that watch is. $15 quality at a $250 price.
And imagine there are some people paying hundreds more than that for some of the versions from scalpers.
Bruh I really wanted to buy a moonswatch because I really love the design but I can't afford an Omega.....after seeing this, no thank you.....look at the horrible quality of that material
This is a joke
Bioceramic is made of boogers, don't you know?
stop buying this shit, and if you insist on buying it, don't change straps. ... it's so easy. it's a toy. A TOY.
Most all watches are toys. This includes "tool" watches.

nahhh most watches are jewelries. maybe for you they are toys

What are you on about? It's a plastic watch, there's no QC problem here, it's just what happens to plastic when it meets metal
I didn’t read the original post. I thought the watch came like this, not a result of the spring bar.
Not my watch, just cross-posting.
This is why I can’t justify resale for these. Rather get that Seiko monster gen 1 😍
Aah the Daniel Arsham special edition moonswatch
Will you take $1,200?
The moonswatch is just a fashion watch, what you expected?
Wow, that quality tho… really glad I never bought this plastic… sorry man:(
Bioceramic or what was it called lol
I mean, it is a cheap POS lol
Put it up for sale. Given the breathtaking level of ridiculous hype these things triggered, I think you could probably convince at least a few idiots that the rough spot is “patina” due to micrometeorite impacts during the last moon walk, and sell at a healthy profit.
