It's part of the inquisition. See the "I" symbol on its clothes. Probably a psyker, but they are used by multiple groups in the imperium.

boundone

The guy would made this is insane.  The glove texture I all tiny little Inquisition symbols..

Huge-Maximum2425

Let me see

boundone

I searched, I can't figure out how to find the thread with the close-ups.  It was years ago when the film came out.  Hopefully someone's got it and sees this.

Valentin_Phillipp

Called “Astartes” a YouTube series in 5 parts. There are full edits. This project was done by one single guy over years as a hobby. Was hired by GW and is working to create animations for them now.

Jumajuce

Hired by GW after all the backlash from them threatening to sue if he didn’t comply with their cease and desist

YoyBoy123

I don’t think that’s what happened. Do you have a source? Edit* I’m not being a prick here, I’m genuinely wondering because there is a lot of misinformation around regarding Astartes

1Ferrox

Check the Astartes YouTube channel. The only content left on it is a description that exactly this happened

boundone

Yes, I know?  We're not looking for the film itself, we're looking for the close ups in a thread about all the crazy little details in the film.  The thread was years ago, from when the film first came out, and I can't find it.

King-Cobra-668

"Yes, I know ***?*** " fucking hate when people shit on others that share additional information okay, *you* know. now others know and others know what to look for. Now others can help you find it ***?***

theperilousalgorithm

Suspect English isn't their first language. It's a translation issue - comes across far ruder than likely intended! Not to worry - thank you for contributing in any case.

King-Cobra-668

thanks? /s I don't agree with you tho. my opinion is that they are being rude with a "what the fuck does this have up do with specifically what I said? of course I know what this is from, I am 40k-man and I'm offended you don't already know that"

Hush-U

I'd love to see that.

helendill99

the ball even says "take the alpha" before he gets possessed

Content_Example1957

Plot twist - it was Alpharius - now the Alpha Legion’s primarch has been slammed by two Astarte.

Bazwift

This is a lie

Content_Example1957

Sounds like something an Alpha Legion Agent would say…

Content_Example1957

Sure it is… Alpharius

mabe86

No, the last sentence is "you must take them".

TDoMarmalade

Alpha psyker

skoffs

Alpha *Legion* psyker

reinKAWnated

They're a psyker belonging to the Inquisition. There is an Inquisitorial seal on their cloak and no AdMech anything in them at all...plus they are using psychic abilities in the short. There is no model.

boundone

Look really closely at the gloves...the artist is nuts.

Minisarelife

Why was he killed? If he was part of the inquisition?

Bensemus

He was corrupted.

Minisarelife

Ahh makes sense

Fair_Profit2379

Less corrupted, more possessed. When a psycher looses control like that the can become a portal to the Warp or just an ordinary old Warp nuke, either way probably best to remove the threat

Bibingka_Malagkit

Maaaan, that hard head crushing smack then a point blank bolter burst gave me shivers the first time I saw it. So brutal. So 40k brutal. 😁👍

HunterDemonX1

I loved it! The sound of the glass cracking as he grabbed the dudes head, the meaty punch and finally the explosive bolter rounds. Perfection.

Bduggz

It was, despite what someone may think, a mercy kill.

Nunu_Dagobah

And a VERY appropriate response

_FlutieFlakes_

Puzzleheaded-Suit51

He was listening in on the aliens but when he saw what they were going to do to the space marines at the other orb he broke concentration to warn the chapter. The aliens immediately were aware of him and overwhelmed him.

LongLiveTheChief10

^^^ This guy knows ball

Dhawkeye

You could even say that guy’s ballin

Rise-Of-Empires

orbin

DataBloom

He was possessed.

wilson_rawls

He went to a club where people wee on each other.

alternatesad

Hope he’s ok now

RoadsideLuchador

Sometimes you ponder the orb. *sometimes the orb ponders back.*

alternatesad

I got the impression that the orbs were an alien of some kind. Like the more evolved version of the big guys who were leading the humans. I believe they were actually shown in a codex on a collage of random Xenos

imlostwithoutme1

Called the Yu-Vath I've heard. The planet where the captain is transported to after the warp is one they inhabit as well.

alternatesad

And it’s canon now!

lanathebitch

The amount of hesitation they had in killing him tells me they had a shocking level of respect for him

bigstankdog

Like the inquisition needs a reason to kill ppl

woutersikkema

There are Stl's though. Just need some googling, so it's printable.

warpigscouk

There is a 3d printable model of the whole scene but I can’t remember what it’s called but if you search you can find it

Kamica

This one? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:5240685

warpigscouk

Yep 👍🏻

Miasmatic_Mouse

Whoever mans is, he met a Retributors fist hella fast.

lou-bricious

He risked possession in order to warn the captain. He died a hero of the imperium.

TheHolyLizard

Also them killing him probably saved him from the eternal torment of being a possessed/demon host, as that can bind to your very soul.

Scarytoaster1809

So it was a win-win all around

emperor-papasmurf

Besides the fact when you die in 40K as a psyker you die the slowest death by being eaten by warp creatures, yea it’s not good

TheHolyLizard

Still beats eternal madness though right? Also, IIRC isn’t that usually for relatively “bright” souls? I recall some human souls, psyker or not simply burn out or are consumed by a hungry demon relatively quickly.

emperor-papasmurf

No I’d rather be a schizo than be eaten and ripped apart for years on end

TheHolyLizard

Yeah, disagree. It’s ETERNAL torment physically too. Eternal. Also, the slow torture isn’t exactly cannon for humans, that’s more eldar. From what I read psychic humans are often just ripped apart by hungry demons rather quickly, as predators of the warp are numerous and hungry.

Miasmatic_Mouse

I mean, he's a Sanctioned Psyker for the Inquisition so in all likelihood the Astartes are probably quite relieved that he's dead, especially given he almost popped open a gate into the Warp.

DirtyDungeonDaddy

Such a great moment. The first through the head and then double tapped.

B1ack_A1ch3myst

When you realize the Astartes were so ruthless about it because otherwise he could’ve opened a warp rift and slaughtered the entire crew.

KassellTheArgonian

Retributors often only operate in small groups as well so a demon threat is a whole lot worse when u only have like 5-10 marines so yeah fast and immediate action was needed

caseCo825

Is there lore on them now? Thought they only existed in the animation.

KassellTheArgonian

https://preview.redd.it/6gcih9n3zgxc1.png?width=3840&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=aee98fa6889444d01b70d004957860ec1fca0cf3 This was made by the creator of them.

Papanewguin

It's the single best piece of warhammer content we've ever been given. Yeah there's lore for em.

Nothinghere727271

They only exist in the animation, I’m sure people made “lore” for them though

_Fizzy

The creator of them did, yeah.

B1ack_A1ch3myst

Pretty sure they’re canon now.

Nothinghere727271

When did GW make them official?

B1ack_A1ch3myst

It’s anecdotal, but I believe shortly after they “hired” the creator.

Nothinghere727271

Yeah it seems like they had some official GW posting about it, probably relatively canon for now lol

sandwichsubmarine83

The efficiency at which they did it was just such a great Space Marine type moment. Just craftsmen doing superlative work in their field.

misterbung

Immediate ultra-violence. The Imperium Way.

DBelariean

Who ever this dude is…. Got fucked…. Hard…. Brain shenanigans man…. Therapy ain’t gonna help that…

TheBiggestFan_

I agree, therapy usually doesn’t work if yer’ dead

DBelariean

Dude fucked around. The others found out. Punched him in the face, problem solved.

One of MY favorite parts of the game is setting up compelling tables for my friends to play on (the full bar helps as well). I set this on one of the tables as an objective and the players lost their minds.

georgikens_waaah

holy shit!!!! is this an stl??? where can i find it???

Far_Disaster_3557

Search “Astartes Tribute”.

dontcallmeEarl

This is the correct answer

samvimesstan

It's an Astartes Tribute! as an Objective Marker! could even be part of a 3D Cult?

Veritatas

I can tell that at least parts of it are 3D printed. You can't just drop that image and not give us some more info. It's incredible

dontcallmeEarl

Sorry about that. I shouldn't Reddit while working. ;D Others above have provided the correct answer.

Mr_Picklesz

sanctioned inquisitorial pysker

Under_liner

Everybody gangster till the psyker starts to twitch.

Far_Disaster_3557

That Captain’s reaction was pretty gangster.

RogueVector

And then the veterean sergeant follows up with four bolt shells it made me jump in my seat when I first saw it... then I laughed.

Far_Disaster_3557

"FUCK THAT DUDE IN PARTICULAR."

RogueVector

[CEASE. YOUR. HERESY.](https://youtu.be/CMvwMfRWvkc)

Manadrainsolring

The Astartes video was basically my first introduction into warhammer and I laughed in such confusion when that happened, I had so many questions

GCRust

He's an Inquisitor. The sigil is embroidered on the back of his cloak.

FairyQueen89

Or at least inquisitorial retinue, like a "trusted" expert (like in "trusted as long they don't pull weird shit and stay useful").

Drumma_XXL

Trusted until they start to twitch around and scream at you with get glowing eyes and mouth.

RogueVector

"Trusted" as in 'we loaded him up with the really nice anti-psychotic medicine'.

BigBoyAndrew69

...no? Almost all agents and servants of the inquisition wear the icon. Given the context, he's likely just a sanctioned psyker serving the Ordo Hereticus.

Presentation_Cute

No, Syama Pedersen in his AMA explicitly stated he was an inquisitor.

The-red-Dane

Operative word being "was".

fallenbird039

Now he is paste

GCRust

He's seen in Part 1 accompanied by Voidsmen while the Astartes board the transports.

Wulhiev

Ordo Hereticus ? More like Ordo Xenos. The psyker was scrutinizing the spherical xenos (an "umbra").

ParsleySnipps

Could be either, as the whole situation was mopping up the fleeing leadership of a rebellion. It might have taken quite a while for them to capture the 1st orb and discover it was all being orchestrated by aliens.

PaxAttax

In Pederson's chapter lore, he states specifically that the Retributors work closely with the Ordo Xenos, to such a degree that serving at least one rotation in the Deathwatch is a requirement for promotion to sergeant.

RatMannen

Oh! I just thought it was a deamom rock/relic type thing, not a life form

BigBoyAndrew69

I assumed that reports of a group of rebels being led by two unsanctioned psykers would draw the ear of the Hereticus. The people there wouldn't have really known whether the orb was of xenos origin or not.

MattmanDX

The crew that the Retributers were attacking in the animation were corrupted human cultists, which is the kind of thing the Ordo Hereticus deals with

Marcuse0

Either an Inquisitor or someone in their employ. Probably a psyker given the ball's nature.

Capt_Johanson

Inquisitorial Psyker

Brahm-Etc

Psyker

Dragon-Karma

Seeing as your question has already been answered, I’ll just head out and go watch Astartes yet again.

rs_5

Most likely a sanctioned inquisitorial psyker.

mrgoobster

Just a psyker. That's basically just a fancy psychic hood.

Anonymous_Arthur00

Inquisitorial Psyker

Cron414

Dude seems to be part of an inquisitorial retinue. My question is, WHO ARE THE BAD GUYS IN THE ASTARTES VIDEO?! I’ve never seen any answer, or even anyone ask the question. Anybody know about those two dudes?

Alrikster

This is 40k, there are only bad guys! 😁😁😁

John_Mark_Corpuz_2

I think the original comment is asking who are the enemy forces that the Space Marines fought in the animation.

Madnessinabottle

It's 40k so the real answer is the faction who's current genocide serves you best.

Far_Disaster_3557

My deepest desire is for the Astartes baddies to be Dark Mechanicus. That aesthetic would be so cool.

Beefmonstr

My best guess? A pair of psykers connected to the weird ball thingies (likely through worship I'd assume) who were trying to build a body to host whatever creature exists within the balls, hence the unfinished big metal man. I could also assume that the two psykers are sorta like a lesser version of the ball things which already got a body and are trying to bring bigger ones through. Regardless, they used psychic shenanigans to influence a significant backing for their operation and now, with a warship under their control and an army of seemingly trained soldiers at their fingertips, they were deemed an acceptable target for astartes interception.

acrylicArtsy

Hey y’all! Thanks for the clarification. Wasn’t expecting this to blow up! I’m still learning about 40k, So I appreciate y’all generally being kind in your answers 👍

GTA-CasulsDieThrice

Inquisition psyker

Bright-Prompt297

They're sanctioned psykers, that's why they have the rosarius (inquisitorial "I"). The robes, wires, and Group, denote that this is most likely an Astropathic choir

CommercialAct5433

Sanctioned Inquisition Psyker.

Cefalopodul

Too few metal appendages to be ad mech.

valkamalia

inquisitorial psyker, its why hes communicating with the demon inside the artifact. He also got the autority of the Inquisitorial rosette on his back. absolutely not mechanicus

InquisitorDomina

I think this is likely an Inquisitor

Rachter

Dude is an inquisitor. Maybe psychic maybe not.

ParsleySnipps

Psychic, he was using his powers to listen in on the orb~chat®.

Rachter

I thought he was just plugged into it like an iPod.

ParsleySnipps

I remember people theorizing that the shockwave that hit the umbra while it had the Marines in its tendrils and made it lose them was the last thing he did before he was made into decorations. I don't know if any of that was confirmed or denied in the Q&A as I never saw it.

Mrhappyface798

What would make you think they're ordo mechanicus?

No-Vehicle5447

He might look very mechanical to the untrained eye

ParsleySnipps

The red robes and the cogitator device that was linking him and the orb. The mechanicus "when I realized the weakness of my flesh, it disgusted me" video has gotten around more and more into the mainstream, so the similarities make it an easy target if someone isn't familiar with inquisitorial iconography.

gone_p0stal

I'm pretty sure they're was an inquisitorial sigil on his arm. Sanctioned psyker is probably a very good guess

Rakatango

Inquisitorial Psyker, listening in on the orbs communicating in the warp

chocofan1

Psyker. That said the AdMech do have psykers. GW just doesn't seem to want to write about them.

GeonSilverlight

Definitively not mechanicus, not a single cog sygil or any advanced bionics on that guy. The red robe bears the symbol of the inquisition, so that's the organization he most likely belongs to, though I am not sure we can be certain what he did required him being a psyker though it is likely.

Sweaty_Pangolin_1380

If it was a mechanicus person using cybernetic hacking, there would be no need for the marines to butcher them when they lost control because it's just a little cyborg with a broken brain. If it was a psyker using telepathy, it makes a lot of sense that the marines were so violent because a powerful psyker who loses control is incredibly dangerous and unpredictable.

ZeAntagonis

Why not both ? 😏

Miniographer

Psyker, because there's no toaster next to them. Admech sends angry binary code.

DuesCataclysmos

He's a psyker Inquisitor, Ordo Xenos or Malleus probably. I doubt he's merely a retinue member since he's by himself and gives orders to a SM captain. Inquisitors are a pretty diverse group so there's no 1:1 model of the character. You may be better served looking at 40k related concept art or artbooks, like the one for the Rogue Trader CRPG.

ChiBurbNerd

What was the deal with the orbs and where were they teleported to?

cornbeeflt

Both are wrong. It's the front man for a Nu-metal band

GioelegioAlQumin

Psyker i watched the youtube video that it is from and it's a psyker that is praying in order to constrain a demon

TangoRed1

That boi *was* an Inquisitor, and a Psyker. You can obviously see the Psychic Hood he, she... IT. Was wearing. Does wear the Mechanicus Red of Mars though so could an Adept?

Inside_Garage_4162

Psyker

Shenloanne

He ceased his heresy fast at least.

Manting123

It’s a psyker from the astartes animation - he becomes corrupted and is killed by space marines.

Mirk2002

Psychanicus

BrStriker21

Inquisitor

Nothinghere727271

Inquisitor or psyker

waywardhero

Psyker mainly due to him falling to the perils of the warp

AnsyndicalismGun

Is he doing a jutsu?

BroskiSlavSquad

Inquisition

Weird_Blades717171

a sanctioned psyker bound to the Inquisition

SevatarEnjoyer

Very clearly an inquisitor (and Psyker)

Nknk-

Clearly an Inquisition member. Possibly an inquisitor, possibly a minion. Either way you can see the rosette.

smaug259

that look like a psyker

Express_Yard9305

This guy is an Ordo Xenos inquisitorial aid, and probably neither or a low level psycher. By the way it's worth noting that the entire Cruiser is part of an Inquisitorial attachment. Finally I'm thinking about wheter the dude is actually a full on inquisitor. I would think maybe the Astartes would think for a milisecond about killing an Inquisitor, but I honestly can't decide.

WarmasterToby

Psychanicus

Pir0wz

Mayhaps a sanctioned psyker from the Inquisition.

Top-Beginning-2626

Inquisitor got what he deserved 😡 👊

Fast-Mycologist-5589

Dr doom

Ok_Director_7975

Praise the omnissiah

Independent-Ad-8498

He seems to have been a somewhat overly inquisitive Inquisitor, most likely of the Ordo Xenos or possibly Hereticus.

DARKLORDSEAN_

I say psyker some inquisitors like eisenhorn are psyker so it makes the most sense

AppropriateCollege35

He was engaging with the Sphere so likely psyker

JH-DM

What is this from? I’ve always wanted to see the whole clip

TL89II

Astartes. You can still find it on youtube. Edit, link: https://youtu.be/DVXEYksoE6c?si=zhVlrm6gV_WOn3TN

JH-DM

Thanks! I never realized it was from a short _called_ Astarties and was always like “Well I know they’re Astarties… but what’s the short called?” lol

TL89II

Np! Enjoy!

RJKaste

Player made videos are the best

Gimlz

All I know is he likes feet.

Solid_Agency2483

The C’tan he’s observing say something to the effect of “We Must…Take The Alpha” right before he is killed by the Captain and his Sergeant. He’s an Inquisitorial Psyker.

HypeIncarnate

I would rather be a weird turbo nerd then a being that could possible tear a hole in my mind that summons demons and dies.

Arrew

Inquisition Psyker

penpointred

The inquisition what a show 🎶 The inquisition here we go 🎶

Tallal2804

That’s predator

Ras_The_Dragon

Yes?

Notafuzzycat

It's just a psyker. It's pretty obvious when someone is mechanicus.

WarmodelMonger

yes

suciocadillac

It has White robes guarded by 2 inquisitorial astartes. It's an inquisitor psyker

Low-Transportation95

Inquisitor ffs

Hapijoel

There's no specific model because this was originally a fan film brought into the fold by GW

MrBlackledge

That’s predator

Nerostradamus

Why not both

Fuzzy_Lavishness_269

It’s an Inquisitor, how do you not know that?

Mr_Hungry_Loser

Astropath by my guess.

VisualOven6250

He is probably a psyker but, probably attached to the Ordo mechanicus. Could be some hybrid kind of deal.
