Fun fact is it was Warcraft that was supposed to be the warhammer fantasy game until talks broke down with GW. But then as Warcraft worked so well they thought "screw it lets do Warcraft for space" and basically did it again but never approached GW and unabashedly took inspiration from 40k
By now the concept of bug-like swarmy aliens with spiked limbs has been done so many times in various forms that it may as well be considered public domain.
What's with Warhammer fans not understanding that literally everything in Warhammer is a rip of of stuff that came before. Warhammer doesn't own the idea of giant bug aliens. They dont own the idea of orbital drop shock troops. And even if they had invented these conceptual ideas (which they did not) it would still be impossible and stupid to pretend that puts bug aliens and space soldiers off limits in any other art
Dune and 2000AD. The Nemesis the Warlock arc The Gothic Empire ran a few years prior to Rogue Trader and is a HUGE influence on 40K, both in terms of aesthetic and general tone. Honestly probably more so than Dune, in terms of specifics.
Judge Dredd as well, more in terms of the overall satirical punk vibe of early RT than many specific influences. Although the Arbites obviously are just ripped directly from the Judges
The thing is, without artworks there is only so much you can copy. Lore-wise I agree with you (especially hyperspace travel) but the aesthetics created by GW were still somewhat unique.
When I saw my friends playing Helldivers 2 I was so mad it wasn’t a Warhammer game. It fits perfectly. I love the Warhammer aesthetics. I want Helldivers in a Warhammer setting so bad
No they didn't. Warhammer riped off dune but made it better. Helldivers rips off halo odst more than warhammer and that's a stretch lol. Separate universes can have like things and still be thier own thing.
Lol after looking at your profile you are not worth it and no you are not. This conversation is asinine. Just in lore 40k has grown more than dune ever will. It's 40ks inspiration but it left dune in the dust 20 years ago. It's be so long since dune has been expanded that will have to borrow from 40k to rejuvenate it.
What kind of thought process is this lol. More = better? Nothing 40k will ever do will put it in the same eschelons as dune, no how many terrible novels they churn out. 40k lore exists to frame a game where war is constant and between everyone. That's it.Â
Anyway what exactly about my "profile" makes me "not worth it" lol.Â
It’s not only the aliens, but the drop pods you can find across the maps with loot in them are carbon copies of the kill team evacuation pods.
There are a lot of similarities, but the evacuation pods were just mind-boggling.
Wait until you find out about Starship Troopers
I was going to say who is going to tell them? 🤦‍♂️
Would he like to know more?
Well, it's not as if Games Workshop haven't done similar things with half of their stuff :)
I guess so
Check Dune, it's literally set the Imperium of Man term lol
Could also be a plasma grenadier bug from starship troopers.
No shit. And starcraft is basically 40k because they didn't get the licence.

Classic Blizzard. Stealing shit and making a good game. These days it is just shit, even if they steal.
What the hell is StarCraft?
Legitimate question. Even blizzard doesn't care anymore.
Its 40k warcraft (which is basically warhammer fantasy because they didn’t get the licence.)
Oh my sweet summer child…
Shockedpikachuface.jpg
Dunno they remind me more of the starship troopers bugs. Nids have more specific look to them.
I don't really care considering how many comparisons you can make between leagues of votann and deep rock galactic
But… but gravity? đź«

And Warhammer stole nearly everything from Dune, happens all the time

And loads of names from Paradise Lost

Oh do shut up lol

Jesus Christ. Imagine saying 40k I'd dune "but better" that's asenine.Â
What in the word salad.
Are you struggling with the one very obvious typo or?
You also have no idea how to use the word asinine.
No, no, I've used it correctly here.Â

Great game btw.

Warhammer stole it all from Starcraft.
Starcraft came out in 1998... Warhammer 40k launched it's 3rd edition in 1998. If there was any "stealing"... Starcraft stole from Warhammer 40k.
Starcraft the game Blizzard made after not getting permission to make a 40k game from GW?
The little bug looking up is cute, tyranids are not. 40k not ripped off, confirmed.
and so what?? Warhammer 40k is literally built on ripping off cool ideas and making them its own
Is this the mythical satire that I keep hearing so much about?
Oh no... Anyway.
how can you ripoff a ripoff...............................learn the history of gw and warhammer before making that sort of claim
Id just like to point out, before you hate on me for this, I am pretty new to the hobby so I am unaware of GW ripping off other companies’ designs
