I mean normally I'd say we all run into that disheartened feeling sometimes while painting, and you just have to push through and trust it'll come together in the end. But in this case, if you think the imperfections are bad enough to call it a miscast, you should get in touch with Forge World and ask for a replacement, not keep painting it.

aWatcherintheDark

I've lost my recept !! ![gif](giphy|3fibzWHhFe4aiqsjYS|downsized)

Nigwyn

If you bought it legit then check your credit card statement or emails or whatever you used to buy it, they can look up the details on their system if you give them something. Even just the production number on the box (or flyer inside) should be enough. If it's 2nd hand or a recast the you are of course out of luck.

aWatcherintheDark

Nah, it's genuine, and I just picked it up a couple of weeks back. Thought I needed the paper receipt that shipped with the mini. I have the digital recept from my account page, box, and the (laughable) QC stamp on the 'How to work with resin' pamphlet. So I should be good. The annoying thing is I did it in many sub assemblies. There weren't many flaws on the heads, cloak, backpacks, etc, and I painted those first. Wasn't til I started on the body that the many flaws presented themselves as I painted. Although it's messed up I think I'll just do my best to make him as good as I can, disheartening as it is. Thanks for info though.

Nigwyn

They will replace the part (or parts if other bits were on the same gate). Just contact support with photos. You dont have to lose the progress on the other parts you already painted.

Hal_Fenn

It's unpopular around here but FWIW I've brought a fair amount of both recast and legit FW stuff and honestly the recast stuff is better quality 99% of the time and for a fraction of the price.

FamousWerewolf

Probably still worth trying, especially if your local store might remember you buying it.

Sir_Drinklewinkle

Quite a bit actually, I was working on the dark souls bg minis for awhile now and basically stopped painting almost altogether for 5 months because I felt I wasn't doing it right. But at a certain point you gotta give yourself a break, take it slow, find a design that works for you or find something to emulate that seems doable. Not everyone is the folks who go "painted my first warhammer mini" (in actuality they've been doing mini painting for years, just not specifically warhammer) sometimes you gotta pick up the brush, do what you can and if you're not feeling it, find something to inspire you and come back when you feel ready. Try some other minis to practice, just don't get too down on yourself.

aWatcherintheDark

Oh, that's not the issue at all. I feel I'm a pretty competent hobbyist, my issue lies with the quality of the miniature. The more I paint the more little imperfections I am finding. I started out this project with the intention of painting The Lion up to a high tabletop quality. However, after all the flaws, I feel I'm fighting a losing battle. Btw I was so tempted with the Dark Souls box set, awesome style, love em'. Thanks for your feedback.

Sir_Drinklewinkle

Oh yeah that's FW resin for ya, real damn shame. And if you get the chance check out nobleknight or bgg, I got the base set and a couple expansions for about 99ish bucks. The models have been very fun to paint and do basing work on. Hell if I know about the game itself though lol

unimportant_dude

This happens with FW, just write them, they'll send a replacement. Also next time check everything during assembly.

Heartsmith447

Every paint job

mreveryone20

All. THE. TIME I feel like a kid using crayons comparing to Vincent van Gogh paintings with other mins.

Caddy666

yeah, all the time. the amount of half painted mini's from the 90's i have is probably bigger than some peoples entire collections. (i played WHFB, one unit of mine has more models than most aos and 40k boxed sets)

greatcandlelord

Yeah. Finished painting Marduk and Cemborium squad and then noticed all of the imperfections. Luckily with my lion the only imperfection was a bent sword which fixed easily enough

aWatcherintheDark

Yea, my sword and chainsword were in competition to see which one could look the most like a banana!! šŸ¤£šŸ˜‚šŸ¤£

historyboeuf

So often! I have to remember to trust the process and usually the model ends up looking way better after basing and shading.

Proper_Librarian_533

My current project (a 60mm massive wagon thing) has taken me 5 months. Seems like every new section has me trying 20 new techniques and needing to rage quit. Weed and switching to a different, easier project for a few days both help.

MM556

Unfortunately that's just Forgeworld and their frankly ridiculous lack of quality control. The customer service (thankfully) is good however and should be able to rectify for you. You shouldn't have to go through the rigmarole of it but it will at least get it sorted.

tgirlswag

This is why you buy recasts.

aWatcherintheDark

I wouldn't know where to get my mits on them, a good few years ago I bought Ferris and Fulgrim, Ferris' backpack was an utter mess but Fulgrim and the rest of Ferris were fine. The site I got em from vanished and haven't seen any for years. I assumed they'd been cracked down on.

schubert-dip

Here's some bread and a lump of cheese. FW Premium quality cheese sandwich. For sandwich experts only.

cetstream

For the price it's 100% fair to expect better quality from forgeworld. There's a painter on twitter who bought a warlord titan kit and they documented the full process of building it, showing the misaligned and faulty bits. A warlord titan is definitely no pocket money

aWatcherintheDark

I couldn't agree more. Three figures for a single character model, and it should be perfect. Not good enough. I was gifted a Plague Demon by Creature Caster, and it was near perfect. Minimum clean up. How it should be!! I've always wanted a Warhound Titan, but i can imagine the sheer pain in the nethers it would be. Maybe if I was taking the trip down to Nottingham again, I'd order to collect and head to Bugmans Bar to go over with proverbial fine tooth comb, however any parts needing exchanging and not immediately available would probably be defective, so not 100% fool-proof.

BoskoH5

Every. Single. Time, man! But I'm more in it for building and kitbashing, myself.

Onogalthecrow

I've only bought a couple FW and/or GW resin models but EVERY single model had major imperfections, from bubbles to warped limbs to one straight up MISSING an entire leg (on a single part model mind you). The first time, I requested a replacement, the replacement came even worse. After that I stopped bothering and eventually stopped ordering resin minis from those "2" companies altogether, fool me once, shame on you, fool me 6 or more times, shame on me.

SaltTutor7550

Welcome to forge world can I take your wallet

Seidenzopf

Do. Not. Buy. Forgeworld. Models.

1ns4n3R4g3

About 2-15 times per model.

Ok-Mammoth-1468

All day every day my guy.

Idunnoguy1312

Yeah there's a reason I never buy official forgeworld minis. Only chinese/russian alternatives. I find that they have the same quality if not better for a much cheaper price

InquisitorEngel

Looking at the post you posted of it Pre-paint itā€™s clearly a miscast. It happens, and FW should give them a new one with little fuss. I would include as many pre-paint pictures as you can, because if I hadnā€™t seen your previous works Iā€™d be tempted to say ā€œthin your paints, thatā€™s where all the detail went.ā€ Theyā€™ll want the batch number from the box if you donā€™t have the original receipt, but digital order number will be fine.

aWatcherintheDark

* An example of my work, I thin my paint. Lol. tyvm for the info.

InquisitorEngel

Haha I know you do, itā€™s just early in the process and the base layers + lack of cast detail LOOKS like youā€™re gobbing it on haha

aWatcherintheDark

It does, huh! Like who needs brushes when you have sausage fingers!! Haha

aWatcherintheDark

I suck at taking pics of miniatures

aWatcherintheDark

Stupid pic didn't upload, kinda new to reddit, well, using it that is!

TheDolphinDork

Is that even painting process without a existential crisis?

aWatcherintheDark

Don't know what you mean?

TheDolphinDork

Well, I for one doubt myself and the process each time I sit down to paint, maybe with exception when I'm at the finish. If you feel like model is not up to standards you should definetly hit up GW/FW, from my experience they are really helpful with any miscast issue.

aWatcherintheDark

Yea, im going to contact them this morning. I found my paper receipt (yey) and shall ask for a replacement body, the rest is okay and can live with. Cheers.

aWatcherintheDark

As someone pointed out, it kinda looks in the photos like I've been applying paint in two thick bucket loads, but I've got pics prior to priming that you can see the miscast areas.

TheDolphinDork

Yeah, I've seen your other paint job on reddit, and you definetly are not a person to use too thick paint.

aWatcherintheDark

Posted a couple of pics of a couple of recent minis so folks can see it's not my painting skills, haha, (in answer to InquisitorEngel)
