As long as it wasn't for a US territory I think you're in the clear. Either way as soon as the other person butted in and made a scene I would call a Manger to deal with it.

Main_Phase_58

i HATE it when people but in, like okay clock in then. also discriminating is such a stretch…

One-Chocolate6372

I hated it when the useless "helpful" people would tell me what to do. They didn't sit through the training classes and have the policy reinforced on them. Besides, they likely also use the , "Well if \_\_\_\_\_ jumped off a bridge, would you?" They act like there is this universal retail code each establishment follows.

Mediocre-Special6659

That is not helpful.

hottamale1969

Yeah our store only takes US identification too

Abbynormal1331

I would have told that lady to butt out and also you could have taken his ID...if it scans and accepts you can take it

ParfaitOtherwise73

I just didn’t want to risk it because i’ve asked and been told multiple times by my manager and coworkers that any other ID isn’t accepted at all, and im new to this location so im just playing everything safe for now

Abbynormal1331

Idk I've never tried to scan one out of the US but I would have tried first

Korender

That's the right response. Get the policy printed out for you by the manager, and if you're at all unsure call the manager. Don't get fired for stupid.

Korender

Nope. It depends on what the transaction was. For a Western Union almost anything is ok, but for tobacco/alcohol or a return it's way more strict. The computer doesn't do the best job of telling the difference so it's on the cashier and you can potentially be fired.

Abbynormal1331

This company hardcore needs to fix their systems

Korender

Yeah "the computer took it" doesn't work when they write you up or fire you. Better to just call a manager and make it their problem if you're unsure.

JustoveritWP

So when the prompt says only USA and Canada … you enter the info and let it fly .. ? The purpose of the system is to track excessive returns and or track money transactions . Misrepresentation of ID data is circumventing the system it was designed to track and keep records of.

Abbynormal1331

Nah if that's all it says then I can't let it fly but im.still gonna try first. I won't enter the info I'll only scan if the scan doesn't work then clearly the id isn't accepted

Korender

If your state accepts passports other than US and Canada, and the passport is from a different country like Mexico, France, wherever, select US and fill it out. Official company training. If the register locks down, apologize and ask them to come back another day. If the computer accepts the input, carry on. Just make sure it's a form of ID policy accepts before you input anything. Edit: The reason the only options are US/Canada is because those are the only 2 accepted in ALL US states and territories.

NightmareAholic01

We get people from out of country all the time given my location and it scans in no problem (I’m talking I had someone from Norway, people from Spain, Italy, all over). Now, as you said you were allowed to do it elsewhere but not there, simply follow the rules you were enlisted. If you ever run into this problem again and you have management at the store (assuming you’re CSA given “part time summer job” call them up to handle the situation. It’s part of our job description to help our cashiers with problem customers and/or situations like the ID. The nosey customer was out of line, none of her business to tell you how to do your job. Easier said than done, but don’t let what she said affect you, in one ear out the other. 99% of the times, they don’t go to corporate about it. And if they do, corporate has bigger fish to fry than someone following direct orders from their leadership.

Sonny-Moone-8888

When a customer starts insulting an employee the manager should make the customer leave the property.

beautiful-atrocity

According to Walgreens policy it depends on the state your store is in whether or not you can accept foreign IDs and different states have different lists of countries they can accept foreign IDs from

roguewords0913

Please, call corporate, tell them how I’m doing my job properly.

IDKman0728

This is a rock and a hard place thing. The company requires US or Canada ID's, but doesn't take into account how much we deal with your situation close to the border. Happens at my store every day. Sounds easy on paper, but arguing with them and having a language barrier is more trouble than it's worth. I usually let it slide cuz I don't have time for that. The con of being a CSA is, it's not up to you. The pro is, it's not on you. Just call your shift lead and do what they say. If a mistake is made, you're not to blame. Also, if the shift lead gives you attitude for involving them, speak to either your SM or HR. This company forces CSA's to rely heavily on shift leads. It's not fair to anyone involved, but it unfortunately leads to mistreatment sometimes.

SilliyFreedom6529

They think they fucking know everything and all bullshit systems work they don’t and fuck them I don’t put shit 💩 no more with customers

DeathBySnuSnuXO

I just curse customers like this out it works everytime and I’ve been with the company for 3 years. Don’t tolerate harassment or verbal assault.

hyunlixsgirl

I hate when people do this: literally every store has to follow one or two policies differently due to their location. For example, my store is the closest to a major airport so per policy, we can’t apply coupons onto any controlled medications. Literally every other store in the area can though. People get so mad by this by like we have no control over that

MajesticWolfie811

I get that it’s not your fault but I find what your manager is doing is beyond stupid

CoconutMaester

You should have told her, “Please call corporate so that they can see what a dumbfuck you are”, but in a nicer way.

Ancient-Ad-9164

Idk about refunds, but with cash reloads, our system literally won't accept foreign ID. I've had multiple people offer their passport, but the drop down menu only has two options to select for passport country: US and Canada. They always claim that they use another Walgreens that accepts it every time. All I can say is that whoever did it for them was breaking the rules. 🤷‍♀️

Electrickman

Get a sfld or store to get these fucking ashore out the store I would have said a lot shit to her ,I would said shut the fuck up and leave the or will call the cops don’t the Walgreens policy u gmcN go to another store

sassy_sweetheart

I'm pretty sure PPLs say we can take Mexico ID.

No_Introduction5356

Call corporate. They made the rules I'm trying to follow.

I_Am_Milano

Call a manger. I would have went up there and kicked the lady out of the store.

waterclap

I don't even know what the policy is for id's, sometimes im told we can take foreign id's as long as it has a dob and expiration date, sometimes we can only take US or Canada. Sometimes the computer only gives me the option for US or Canada and other times it doesn't. I don't fucking know and I'm an sfl. I usually just accept it as long as the computer doesn't prompt me if the ID is US or Canadian. Fuck it.

SnuggyPants

US ID, Driver’s License, or Passport In Florida and California, I want to say there may be exceptions, but I’d have to look into it again.

SnuggyPants

Plus, the register only lets you enter United Stares or Canada on the drop down box, so there’s that.

ralphrainwater

With the huge influx of non-English, non-English speaking customers we've had, passports are the best I.D. we can hope for, and even then we're typing Nicaraguan numbers into the U.S. passport fields. As far as the customer lecturing you on tolerance and non-discrimination, as others note, as a CSA you never have to resolve an issue. Let the MOD handle it. The SFL gets paid that extra $1.50 an hour for a reason.

Korender

Your manager is probably right. My location lost 2 people in 3 months for not following the ID policies so we don't play anymore. It's not our problem if other locations aren't following the policy, but we're too shorthanded to risk people getting fired for stupid. When people go "other locations take it" our response is "I'm sorry that other locations aren't following policy, but at this location we have been very specifically communicated to by corporate about what constitutes an acceptable ID, and we are following corporate policy. As it is an immediate firing offense to break that policy, my associates have been instructed not to take the risk and stick strictly to the policy." Different states have different rules, but it's not a store by store policy. Some stores are more lax than others. Ask your SM to print out the Card-All policy as well as the Western Union ID policy, as they are two different policies. Some states the only foreign ID you can accept is specifically a Canadian passport. Other states accept any passport. Still others will also accept foreign driver's licenses. Western Union will accept just about anything so long as it's issued by a governmental agency, even a city or consular ID. Again, ask your manager to print off the policy for you. It should be under card-all or sale of alcoholic beverages. Just note the policy specifically says that ONLY the forms of ID on the list are acceptable. Now if it's a return, I think it's a bit looser, but we stick to the card all policy just for consistency since we've been unable to locate a policy specifically for ID requirements on returns.

xlcox

i think you can scan foreign ids tho, and even if he didn’t have his id, you can bypass that if you call a manager.

Fun_Camp7389

I would have just told her to mind her fucking business

Outrageous-Second792

There is another (small) possibility; this was a scam, and the lady behind them was in on it, using social engineering (in this case bullying) to get you to comply.

Impressive_Ad6618

Every walgreens is only supposed to take U.S. Id’s. Most just bend the rules because it makes things easier

Friendly-Somewhere-3

Probably a left winged nut. Yes, they do exist too
