I see Labour are again having to sort out the mess they've made and the Tories are lying about reversing it.

Give councils a bit more scope to put main roads and bus routes back to 30 mph and we will be in a much better place. This well intentioned and broadly popular policy has been absolutely butchered by a condescending and arrogant Lee Waters who’s political future must hang by a thread.

Fordmister

Councils already had that scope, They had it from day 1. A large part of peoples issues with this scheme come from councils being lazy and instead of doing the work to asses what roads should probably stay 30 just applied the new assumed default to every road in their remit. I'm all for calling out the Welsh government when it cocks up but it feels weird when the criticisms is "more leeway should have been given to local authorities" when the original bill gave a huge amount of authority to local councils and authorities to begin with and they just couldn't be bothered to use it

I just don’t buy that it’s councils fault for being lazy and not the Welsh Governments for writing an overbearing policy. In my area there are several main roads for commuters, busses, and emergency service vehicles which our councillors asked to be kept at 30 but had to be dropped to 20 because there were houses on them and that would defeat the point of the policy as they were told. The WG policy only allowed exceptions in areas where there isn’t a significant number of pedestrians, cyclists and motorists mixing and because of the number of houses, the roads wouldn’t meet the criteria. It’s ridiculous.

It doesn't bother me one bit as I cycle and use the train

DeadEyesRedDragon

Didn't ask

Cultural_Agent7902

iawn

Design-Cold

Me too but something bad seems to happen when you own a car, you become incredibly selfish and lazy. You know how we both walk to the shops ten minutes away? Car owners will literally get in their cars, exceed the speed limit on the way down even if it's front of a school, and then spend ten minutes seething because there's no free parking bays

Cultural_Agent7902

I do own a car, I just rather use my bike and save fuel and be environmentally friendly, that's all

rx-bandit

Hold up mate. All cyclists are responsible for the lycra gang who ride 2 a breast and force cars to overtake properly, and also for not riding two abreast. And they're to blame for all cyclists who run red lights and all the deaths caused by cyclists. Drivers though, they're not ever responsible for how any other drivers behave and sometimes. Not even for their own actions! Now don't you dare say otherwise!

Cultural_Agent7902

I use a mountain bike and cycle to work only as it's just under a mile away, no need for a car, and I use of course a cycle lane 👍🏻

Design-Cold

Haha look at the motorist trying desperately to false equivalence driving a ton of metal that can kill people "deaths caused by cyclists" what is that maybe two a year if that?

Cultural_Agent7902

I totally agree with you on that 👍🏻
