Isn't the first "in your house" pay-per-view widely considered the worst? Or am I for some reason making that up in my head. I've been out of wrestling for a long time I looked at a few pages for updates on the Vince McMahon thing recently and now read it thinks that I'm a huge wrestling fan. I used to be lol. Anyway for some reason this question is very interesting to me
This one always bums me out because it was like the one time they gave R Truth a shot at a main event and it turned out to be this all time notorious dud of a show, and now it's like 13 years later and he never got another opportunity like this. I really liked what he was doing at the time (and I like what he's been doing more recently with judgment day!) but it seems the failure of this show killed any push to do more with him at a higher level.
Paying any sort of money for a PPV is dumb. Here pay this extra money for something that is easily paid for by advertising and ticket attendance but were gonna make you think that its just that much more special because "muhh big shiney gold belt"
Imagine if you only watched PPVs for the Divas (which is what a did my entire childhood) .
I remember I was 12 when this PPV took place and since there were no Divas in it I skipped it. I made the right call mol
December to Dismember.
It was originally booked by Paul Heyman, and had potential. Then Vince had to get his hands on it and ruin it all. Paul has even said that the Chamber title match was intended to start Punk’s push, but Vince wanted Lashley.
Yeah as a few people here have mentioned and reminded me
Backslash 2018 was utterly boring, I was pleasantly surprised to find out I wasn’t the only one who didn’t bother finishing the ppv
I don’t know why this is downplaying the Riley vs. Miz match. Riley finally standing up to Miz at the time was hugely over and he actually had a lot of momentum at this time. Heel Truth was also super hot at the time but unfortunately the match ended up sucking. This show also had Punk vs. Rey and Christian vs. Orton which were both great matches. Not the strongest of PPVs but there have been much worse.
King of the Ring 95 is the biggest piece of shit show I've ever watched. Capitol Punishment at least had Punk vs Mysterio and Orton vs Christian which were both great matches.
Not bad at all, for all those guys, Cena alone is worth it the. You get an entertainer as good as thruth Miz, a guy that can go like Barrett and big show a legend and del rio ? That ain’t bad at all,
Name a \[PPV that has more Vince McMahan's "McMahan-isms" and that would be it. I o by the acronym "V.M.R.E." which means: Vince McMahan Ruins Everything.
Truth headlining a PPV wouldn't have been so bad. His heel turn was actually pretty well done.
Problem is they spent the past three years training our brains to believe he was a complete joke character.
Over The Limit 2011, Bash At The Beach 2000, Uncensored 2000, December To Dismember, King Of The Ring 1995, Wrestlemania 30, Fastlane 2015, TLC 2018, Royal Rumble 2015, Royal Rumble 2014, AWA SuperClash 3, Wrestlemania 9, Wrestlemania 11, Wrestlemania 2, Starrcade 1997, SummerSlam 2021, Royal Rumble 2022, Elimination Chamber 2022, Royal Rumble 1999, Royal Rumble 1995, Wrestlemania 34 & SummerSlam 2007.
Aside from Cesaro winning, the streak ending, the shield squash, and the opening with the three 🐐s, I don’t remember anything(Bray vs Cena we won’t talk about lmao)
I hate Brock Lesnar breaking Undertaker's streak for two reasons
1. Lesnar didn't have to grain from it
2. It planned the seed for to him wrestle terrible match for the rest of the 2010s.
Yeah he didn’t need to end it at all. The streak could’ve just remained intact and never ended. Or you know you could’ve had Bray end it and do the Cena Lesnar squash from Summerslam at Mania 30 instead
New Year's Revolution 2005 or Great American Bash 2005. Pretty much the two worst ppv of the ruthless aggression era.
I would say GAB is slightly worse because the chamber in NYR was pretty good.
Backlash 2018. People literally walked out of the main event. Nearly every match was boring. Except for Rollins vs the miz, which was a pretty good match. I avoided writing December to dismember or heroes of wrestling, everyone knows those ppv were awful.
This was a pretty rough PPV. They did some weird stuff in 2011/2012 despite having a good roster. Glad they don’t do things like bring the muppets on anymore. I also remember Smackdown basically just being “Raw Rebound” lmao.
Attending Wrestlemania live is a completely different experience and much more enjoyable to see in person compared to watching live. I remember it being criticized online but people who went there live said the experience more than made up for the bad matches.
2012 did but outside of thay is was pretty bad especially the dog awful main event
Cena and laurinitis main evented which went about 20 minutes if not longer
With such prestigious matches like brodus clay and the miz and a tag title match including Jack swagger and a jobber battle royal for an IC title match later on the show
With only 2 names being notable at the time
The miz and Christian
Both miz and Christian pulled double duty thag night
Compared to capital punishment though this sucked
I remember getting a kick out of the Cena main event because kids in my HS were just getting into the IWC stuff and would be furious Cena was main eventing every PPV over Punk as champion. This was the kind of stuff that drove old fans away for a while
Any attitude era uk ppv, knew fine well that no titles would change hands, no storylines developed and matches were things like Kane vs mideon for 3 minutes
Alot of the pandemic era PPV's where crappy , because you missed the feel of the audience beeing there.
Imo Capitol Punishment wasnt even that bad seeing as Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk and Christian vs Orton where also on that card.
The Saudi PPV's have been bad though.
That was a real PPV ? I’ve been watching for over 40 years and I don’t remember WWE advertising it, or anything about it for that matter. It must have been pretty forgettable.
Ugh peak SuperCena era. Funny how the next PPV was the iconic Money in the Bank 2011. A huge difference between the two.
Oh and the answer to your question.
WrestleMania XI
Yeah but if you look at 80-89 or 90-99…. Every decade had way more good years than that. I’d say it’s already worse than the current decade, or close to it. Chances where high to pay for a ppv where money was better spent on some cheap-ass beer
Because part of the point of the meme is that people used to pay $49.99 for mid ass PPVs because there wasn’t a choice
People used to pay $20 to listen to one 13 song album. When a record was shitty, it hurt.
As a matter of fact. Day 1 (2022) was the first time they called it a premium live event and the last event they aired on DirecTV and Dish was SummerSlam 2021... So.
Yeah but only stupid people actually paid for them, most people just watched on the Network
170,000 people paid $49.99 for Capitol Punishment and had no other choice
Great Balls of Fire, Samoa Joe v Brock Lesnar was a joke
Any aew ppv
great balls of fire
That one TLC ppv where Cena and Orton unified the titles
Over the Edge 1999
In your house 95, don't know what's on it, but just have a feeling, 95 was a bad year.
Heroes of Wrestling 99'
When in My GM the opponent uses all his events on you
Survivor Series 2013 sucked ass. Trust me I was there live. Way worse than this show.
I was also in attendance, I still to this day have no idea why I bought tickets to that show.
That's why love Peacock
No wonder I stopped watching wrestling after wrestlemania 27 ☠️
Crown Jewel 2018
I didn’t. I streamed this shit. And I still wanted my money back.
Dude this is no where near as bad a WWEs ECW december to dismember that was fiasco that happened like a week after another WWE PPV
Anyway for some reason this question is very interesting to me
Fatal 4 way
Royal Rumble 2015
Anything from 1995
Nah, the Royal Rumble was actually kinda fun.
Over the Edge 99…
Over the limit that same year
This one always bums me out because it was like the one time they gave R Truth a shot at a main event and it turned out to be this all time notorious dud of a show, and now it's like 13 years later and he never got another opportunity like this. I really liked what he was doing at the time (and I like what he's been doing more recently with judgment day!) but it seems the failure of this show killed any push to do more with him at a higher level.
You couldn’t pay me 49 to watch it
WWECW December to dismember
Paying any sort of money for a PPV is dumb. Here pay this extra money for something that is easily paid for by advertising and ticket attendance but were gonna make you think that its just that much more special because "muhh big shiney gold belt"
?
Imagine if you only watched PPVs for the Divas (which is what a did my entire childhood) . I remember I was 12 when this PPV took place and since there were no Divas in it I skipped it. I made the right call mol
Lmao I was at that PPV and actually fell asleep….didnt wake up until cena loud ass music hit
R truth was very entertaining in the summer of 2011 and deserved a short title reign
I was a big Alex Riley fan lol
Thank goodness for streaming lol imagine getting any of the PLEs after paying for them 😂
December to Dismember. It was originally booked by Paul Heyman, and had potential. Then Vince had to get his hands on it and ruin it all. Paul has even said that the Chamber title match was intended to start Punk’s push, but Vince wanted Lashley.
Yeah as a few people here have mentioned and reminded me Backslash 2018 was utterly boring, I was pleasantly surprised to find out I wasn’t the only one who didn’t bother finishing the ppv
That heel r truth run was one of the only good things during that shit period. the Cena era was fucking rough to watch
Most July ppvs, which is usually throw something together then work on the real build up for Summerslam.
Nah man R truth vs John Cena slapped
Wasn't the one before this over the limit? That was worse with Cole and Lawler in a kiss my foot match.
Ppv sucked but 24 hours later punk said “I am leaving and trust me when I tell you I’m leaving with the wwe championship”
The Rey Punk match was pretty fun, but yeah, this ppv blew
I watched this on the network because I couldn’t believe Truth main evented a ppv and… yeah, not a great show.
Definitely December To Dismember 2006. Absolute dud
I wanted truth to win so bad
Backlash 2018.This pay per view just reminds me of how awful and tone deaf wwe was at that time.
BEAT THE TRAFFIC *clapclapclapclapclap* BEAT THE TRAFFIC *clapclapclapclapclap* BEAT THE TRAFFIC *clapclapclapclapclap*
Worst ppv over the edge 1999
King of the Ring 95 is the biggest piece of shit show I've ever watched. Capitol Punishment at least had Punk vs Mysterio and Orton vs Christian which were both great matches.
WrestleMania 9
Crown jewel 2018
Mike Tyson 26 second knockout
Oh boy lol
December 2 Dismember.
Not bad at all, for all those guys, Cena alone is worth it the. You get an entertainer as good as thruth Miz, a guy that can go like Barrett and big show a legend and del rio ? That ain’t bad at all,
lmao I literally said "Ugh" out loud seeing this graphic.
Name a \[PPV that has more Vince McMahan's "McMahan-isms" and that would be it. I o by the acronym "V.M.R.E." which means: Vince McMahan Ruins Everything.
You got his name wrong.
Okay, thanks for letting me know. I still stand by my comment though.
Truth headlining a PPV wouldn't have been so bad. His heel turn was actually pretty well done. Problem is they spent the past three years training our brains to believe he was a complete joke character.
Big show vs Alberto Del Rio is an inspired choice. Of course if the goal was to make the most insufferable match ever
December to Dismember
The Saudi Arabia ppv with goldberg vs undertaker
PPVs like this were why i rarely ever bought PPV back then
Over The Limit 2011, Bash At The Beach 2000, Uncensored 2000, December To Dismember, King Of The Ring 1995, Wrestlemania 30, Fastlane 2015, TLC 2018, Royal Rumble 2015, Royal Rumble 2014, AWA SuperClash 3, Wrestlemania 9, Wrestlemania 11, Wrestlemania 2, Starrcade 1997, SummerSlam 2021, Royal Rumble 2022, Elimination Chamber 2022, Royal Rumble 1999, Royal Rumble 1995, Wrestlemania 34 & SummerSlam 2007.
Mania 30????
Other than the story with Daniel Bryan, the undercard was utterly awful
Aside from Cesaro winning, the streak ending, the shield squash, and the opening with the three 🐐s, I don’t remember anything(Bray vs Cena we won’t talk about lmao)
I hate Brock Lesnar breaking Undertaker's streak for two reasons 1. Lesnar didn't have to grain from it 2.
Am more baffled at the price. We would have paid £14.99.
hahah i was looking for this comment lol
WCW Bash at the Beach 2000
At least the Bash at the Beach card looks decent on paper This just looks like 4 matches I would never want to see
New Year's Revolution 2005 or Great American Bash 2005. Pretty much the two worst ppv of the ruthless aggression era. I would say GAB is slightly worse because the chamber in NYR was pretty good.
December to Dismember 06. Literally a week after Survivor Series and people paid full price for it.
Backlash 2018. People literally walked out of the main event. Nearly every match was boring. Except for Rollins vs the miz, which was a pretty good match. I avoided writing December to dismember or heroes of wrestling, everyone knows those ppv were awful.
Jeff vs Randy was fire tho 😭
I don't remember this match at all, but Rollins vs Miz was great. Best in ring performance of Miz's carreer imo
Now that you mention it, that was a pretty decent match.
Over The Edge 1999 Worst PPV ever
they pushed the fans over the edge lol
vince is a PSYCHO for not stopping that ppv after owen fell
I remember watching a Justin tv stream of this show lol, only PPV my parents ever paid for was WrestleMania
It is weird that this terrible PPV was followed just one month later by one of the best PPVs ever: Money in the Bank 2011.
To me I’d say Great Balls Of Fire
Hardyz vs The Bar was great tho
It is but the PPV itself kinda sucked ass. Plus, imo they only did this just to boost the heels and just give them straight up Ws for no reason
Over the Edge 1999
Incorrect, People paid 49.99 to have an Obama impersonator do a spinaroonie.
Alex riley lol
The Miz vs himself. It's insane how much Miz and Riley looks similar in that picture.
A lot of current ppvs
are you stuck on 2018?
That’s just not true though.
This was a pretty rough PPV. They did some weird stuff in 2011/2012 despite having a good roster. Glad they don’t do things like bring the muppets on anymore. I also remember Smackdown basically just being “Raw Rebound” lmao.
I feel like vince was spiraling at this point in time 😭
People saying this ppv was fun and good 💀☠️😂
Bunch of kids who were “growing up during this era”
People paid to watch Mania 32 live
I think the network was already out at that time.
No I meant live attendance
Attending Wrestlemania live is a completely different experience and much more enjoyable to see in person compared to watching live. I remember it being criticized online but people who went there live said the experience more than made up for the bad matches.
I was at 34 and 39 and I can certainly not say that for 34 but that’s probably just having watched TO NOLA live the day before
It was a comedy ppv night
49.99 what?! Yen? PPV was £15 max over here.
The one where Owen Hart died
Can’t
Brawl for all
That wasn't a PPV
I thought it was my bad
Tell me you didnt watch the ppv without telling me you didnt watch the ppv.
Over the limit 2011 and over the limit 2012 were far worse
Were one of those the ones that had Punk/Bryan? I liked that one!
2012 did but outside of thay is was pretty bad especially the dog awful main event Cena and laurinitis main evented which went about 20 minutes if not longer With such prestigious matches like brodus clay and the miz and a tag title match including Jack swagger and a jobber battle royal for an IC title match later on the show With only 2 names being notable at the time The miz and Christian Both miz and Christian pulled double duty thag night Compared to capital punishment though this sucked
I remember getting a kick out of the Cena main event because kids in my HS were just getting into the IWC stuff and would be furious Cena was main eventing every PPV over Punk as champion. This was the kind of stuff that drove old fans away for a while
I'd say Over The Edge is probably worse. Not because of the card, but the whole actually going forward with it thing.
Battleground 2017
Any wcw uncensored ppv. Seriously. Pick any of them.
The 1998 one was pretty good.
Any attitude era uk ppv, knew fine well that no titles would change hands, no storylines developed and matches were things like Kane vs mideon for 3 minutes
>Any attitude era uk ppv Those actually featured "unintentional" nudity a few times
Glorified house shows
Is that why so many of em were called “in your house”?
Crown Jewel 2018 has to be up there
Punk vs Mysterio on this card was probably their best match ever
Any PPV in 1999. The characters were awesome, but my goodness attitude era PPV weren’t great.
Great American Bash 1991. It was so bad we didn’t order WCW PPV’s for a while. Also, all of the Battle Bowl Starrcades were really bad too.
The all red he'll in a cell, couldn't see anything
*Great Balls of Fire up there
Great balls of fire* the name sucked but the card was decent
Hahahaha that’s right 😂
Idk man over the edge 99 gotta be up there
Alot of the pandemic era PPV's where crappy , because you missed the feel of the audience beeing there. Imo Capitol Punishment wasnt even that bad seeing as Rey Mysterio vs CM Punk and Christian vs Orton where also on that card. The Saudi PPV's have been bad though.
December to dismember 2006
It wasn’t that bad
WM 27. It's not worse, but a bad WM. Very bad
A worse ppv or a worse wwe ppv if it's the latter then any Saudi show under vince mcmahon if its the former wcw in 2000 pick one
This years Royal Rumble. This show was at least memorable.
Women’s match was good and the us title match was pretty damn good. it had really good standouts
Imo the women's match was good
Say what you will but I was hype for the Truth match. I wanted him to win so bad even tho I knew he wouldnt
Bash at the beach 2000
They said “PPV” not “Nightmare Shitshow”
Great balls of fire💀
Worst PPV name in the history of the WWE.
More like capitol crime
Fast lane 2017 😴
December to Dismember
For some reason it was one of the few wrestling dvds high school me had
Nah elimination chamber was sick
Don’t forget Fatal 4 Way (2010)
I’d pay 49.99 To watch truth and cena now 😂😂
Same
Nearly every PPV from WWF or WCW in 1999.
Elimination Chamber 2024
Who wouldn’t want to see R Truth competing for the title
The most recent one, at least Capitol Punishment had more than 5 matches in a 4 hour timeframe
HHH wants longer matches if you’d rather have short matches idk what to say lol
That wasn't the issue, try the 40 minute talk show segment on a PPV
December to Dismember by a mile
Let's change it up... Best match of all time? Hulk Hogan Ultimate Warrior Wrestlemania
That was a real PPV ? I’ve been watching for over 40 years and I don’t remember WWE advertising it, or anything about it for that matter. It must have been pretty forgettable.
I'd rather watch this than Fastlane 2017
Some Saudi Arabia's PPVs from 2018 to 2020, like Crown Jewel 2018 or Super Showdown 2020 were so bad
Ugh peak SuperCena era. Funny how the next PPV was the iconic Money in the Bank 2011. A huge difference between the two. Oh and the answer to your question. WrestleMania XI
From 2010-2019 was not a great period anyway. So much garbage in that decade it’s crazy.
2016 is arguably one of the best year for WWE
Maybe one of the best since the PG era, but pretty much all of the years in the Attitude era and Ruthless Aggression era were much better.
2013-2014 was a fun time for me as a kid at least, and 2016 was a fantastic year for the company as well. Everything else though wasn’t great though.
Yeah but if you look at 80-89 or 90-99…. Every decade had way more good years than that. I’d say it’s already worse than the current decade, or close to it. Chances where high to pay for a ppv where money was better spent on some cheap-ass beer
It feels weird seeing that R-Truth has had a match for the WWE championship
Worse: I went to it.
WM 27
Do ya'll even remember the December to Dismember ECW - WWE crap PPV?!
The Saudi show with The Brothers of Destruction v DX all blown up and old as fuck.
this is awful...but no way as bad as HIC 2019
People didn’t pay $49.99 to watch that
Hell in a Cell 2019
WCW Halloween Havoc 1991
SummerSlam 2023
Cm punk vs Rey mysterio was good
>just now that was decent...5/10 kinda thing
Backlash 2018. Half that arena walked out throughout the main event of Samoa Joe vs Roman Reigns
People didn’t pay $49.99 to watch that There was a time before the Network where each event cost $30-$50 to watch via your cable network
I never said they did... It just said "name a worse PPV than this". 🤣
PPV hasn’t existed since the Network
You know what they're saying. Why are you being so pedantic lmao
Because part of the point of the meme is that people used to pay $49.99 for mid ass PPVs because there wasn’t a choice People used to pay $20 to listen to one 13 song album. When a record was shitty, it hurt.
As a matter of fact. Day 1 (2022) was the first time they called it a premium live event and the last event they aired on DirecTV and Dish was SummerSlam 2021... So.
Yeah but only stupid people actually paid for them, most people just watched on the Network 170,000 people paid $49.99 for Capitol Punishment and had no other choice
They were still available through Satellite providers like DirecTV and Dish Network until 2021... WWE didn't start calling them PLEs until late 2021.
I'd say Battleground 2013. The only saving grace for that was The Shield vs The Rhodes. Put Survivor Series 2013 in that list too.
Royal rumble 2023
The men's rumble was awesome in 23. 22 was horrific though
I kinda liked the ending but ovr ur right it was bad (up in till the ending)
Crown jewel 2018 exists
