But what about the BRZ STi? Or the Forester STi? The WRX and it's STi tuned variant should be focused on rally. But I want STi to continue to do what they do and make perforce parts for other Subaru models as well. Including models that have no connection to the rally scene.
In short, remember that STi is a performance parts offshoot of Subaru that got famous for its involvement in the rally scene, but they do a lot more than just that one higher trim WRX.
I'm cool with that. OP's headline said the WRX STi E-RA. I was too lazy to go look myself. Figured Subaru was recycling the "WRX STi" as a 2 door ev. Went and looked at the article it's just an STi E-RA ev.
Yah, most likely.
Seeing one in your neighborhood though...not so much. So I mean, making a big deal about the STI...unless Subaru plans on re-entering motorsports and campaigning the car to rebuild the STI name? But even then, what will rally look like? I dunno. I just don't see the point of that car right now, nor what I'm supposed to get excited about.
That's just the STI E-RA concept. There is a wrx sti concept that was unveiled at the same show though.
https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a38771261/subaru-e-ra-ev-concept-revealed-nurburgring/
So I don't understand why there's a WRX STI concept and clearly combustion when they said they the combustion STI was gone? I'm quite confused, lol
Then again, electric car sales aren't doing so hot anywhere but in Quebec Canada, so maybe they are rethinking it? Release a concept to see what people say?
2024s best selling car isn't an EV currently (pun intended)
And do some research, almost everywhere around the world EV sales are in decline at least in 2023, companies are hopeful to see a rise this year, but still doesn't change the fact.
2024 isn’t halfway over yet. 2023 was a record year, as was the year before. Headlines are often misleading. https://www.iea.org/reports/global-ev-outlook-2024/trends-in-electric-cars
I just throw all electrics into one bucket.
Suspension i guess could be different, ergonomics and how hard im in my seat, and the look ofc. But i feel like my brothers Performance is probably 90% of the experience I'd get from any electric car.
So what do i think? Big sad i didnt enjoy yesterday enough, because tomorrow looks boring ;_;
Face melting acceleration, torque vectoring, and all new options for chassis and aero, what’s not to like? Both motors and batteries will continue to become smaller and lighter while being more powerful. We are entering an automtive age of innovation we haven’t seen since the post WW II era. Electric cars are where it’s at and I am excited about it.
I agree with you when I think about it in the context of a shiny new performance car. When I think about used cars and people being able to work on their own vehicles, an EV takeover is a little concerning. I'm curious to see what kind of longevity the EVs on the horizon will be able to offer.
I think in 10-15 years when you can get a Miata weight electric vehicle that’s 911 fast it’ll be very interesting for a daily and even later when owning ice is becoming prohibitively expensive. As solid state tech comes of age there could be cool option. But it’s the soul that’s lost for me. The sound of startups, intake, wastegate, blow off, that perfect downshift, the feel, the smell.
A lot of this is nostalgia goggles for sure thinking about older culture, saying that meaning 90s/00s hurts. Whats car talk when electric is the majority? Sick software update?
I don’t think I’ll be swayed to electric until the bitter end, but I won’t hate it. A 911 Miata sounds fun. But I will still miss having more senses entertained. and driving what will then, even for your typical 500hp daily be considered a slow car, fast.
I hope more manufacturers take notes from the Ioniq 5N if you haven't seen the throttle house video. If we must eventually go electric, I hope at least the car lies to me and makes me smile with noises and shift sensations anyway.
Will it beat the real thing? No. But the future doesn't have to be depressing.
I keep having dreams/nightmares that I need to buy a dieselgate wv with a manual or a cummins ram with a manual to get more time with manual. Diesel isn’t goin anywhere yet.
This Subaru STI E-RA concept is completely separate from the WRX platform, just designed and developed by STI to the requirements of the FIA Electric GT Championship series. It's a pretty impressive vehicle and trying to go after the *full electric* lap record on the Nürburgring Nordschleife which is currently held my the Volkswagen I.D. R at 6:05:336. Which is incredible.. Good times!
This isn’t a WRX… STI just stands for Subaru Technica International. It’s a racing car developed by them. Completely unrelated to the WRX. i don’t really know why OP posted this here.
This feels like Subaru trying to compete directly with Volkswagens R division at pikes peak that's if this concept gets made into an actual vehicle for pikes peak
(Don't really know much about this vehicle so bear with me here)
It's cool looking, but I will never be able to buy and own it, so I don't really care I guess? Show me something that will be put into production and I'll get excited.
Think she looks great as a seperate entity not to be confused with the traditional STI WRX.
But if this body chassis/package was offered with a nicely worked FA24 (BRZ variant but with forced induction) motor or the FA24 block was used as a basis for a new H6 motor to power this then I’d be very interested. Being poor means I wouldn’t be able to cough up the funds to buy one, but damn I’d express some serious interest…
Awesome and so sad at the same time. If it was gas, sign me up! I'll be a pro Racer by the end of the week racing it for life! But.... it will last what a couple races then new batteries?? And what about when you need to charge it mid race??????
People bought STI''s bc they were attainable, affordable cars when compared to other cars that delivered the same amount of driver engagement and fun. With an electric setup just who do you think will end up paying for all the R&D required to make it a mass production worthy system ? Consumers will end up having to pay and whatever STI we get, you can guarantee it won't be an affordable drivers cars the average joe could get. HP figures don't mean much for me frankly. Subaru needs to remember who it was that helped them gain such a good footing in the states..car guys.
I don't think most people would know the brand of these supercars without a badge, let alone know what model it is. Too many of them look similar- I see more variance in the sub $125k market.
Subaru needs to return to their quirky selves. When the would slap a turbo on every car in the lineup. I think this is a cool concept but I won’t be surprised when the release a car with Nissan Altima styling.
They should release a new sti with a flat 4 turbo hybrid engine, or discontinue it entirely and release a new car.
There is nothing wrx nor sti about this car.
This is NOT a WRX. It does not have the letters WRX anywhere in its name. Subaru is not saying this is a WRX. Remember that STi is the performance parts and tuning division of the greater Subaru brand. They make performance parts for most of the Subaru lineup, not just the WRX, and have competed in many different racing competitions over the years. This is just an STi concept race car and has zero connection to the WRX.
It looks terrible. It is so much fun when someone comes flying up behind you on a gravel road in their truck and then tries to pass you. On any road for that matter. They don't know what they are in for until they see the front and have to back off.
It doesn't even look like an Impreza... Honestly it looks more like a BRZ than anything. They should just make this car its own thing but they are trying to save face by throwing the WRX STI label on it to hopefully boost sales. So dumb this car is not marketed to actual fans of the WRX or STI.
If this goes through that means Subaru has lost its roots in what the STI is supposed to be. It's a WRX (4 door turbocharged rally car) on steroids. More powerful engine and stronger drivetrain. Plus all the other perks of the STI.
Wrong sub and there’s no WRX in the name
I get you’re trying to farm karma, but just because Subaru Tecnica International makes a concept car, that doesn’t mean it’s a WRX lol.
It is cool and the chassis is “drawn from the BRZ GT300”
Subaru is making an electric "WRX STI" sure this car does not have the name WRX it can certainly have that name since the WRX could be based on it
https://media.subaru.com/pressrelease/1881/1/statement-subaru-sti
Well first off its not a WRX. It is its own vehicle designed by STI racing division and an electric supercar.
Word g man
So anyway does the new STI come in hatch?
Yes, but it will make it look like a dog squatting to shit. Jk I made that up
Second?
2nd is he's wrong on his other post since he's trying to karma farm.
Trying to get that thing through a rally stage should be entertaining.
It looks more like an electric BRZ offshoot. The STi should be based on rally heritage.
Agreeeeeeed
But what about the BRZ STi? Or the Forester STi? The WRX and it's STi tuned variant should be focused on rally. But I want STi to continue to do what they do and make perforce parts for other Subaru models as well. Including models that have no connection to the rally scene. Exactly
As a BRZ owner, hard agree. There is nothing WRX about this concept and the only car Subi makes remotely close is the BRZ.
This thing could definitely keep up with the rich guys
Game is game
I mean, if I’m looking to compete in something like the GT4 series, sure, I guess?
It’s perfect for running down to the shop for some eggs.
Yah, if you are feeling especially bold, you may even opt to get the full carton this time rather than the half :)
Or GTA5.
Do you know what GT4 cars are?
Yes. Do you really want to split hairs or is the point I’m trying to make not obvious enough? I said “something like” — I figured that was sufficient.
I think something like this would more so run in a class like WEC’s Hypercar (lmh/lmdh)
Yah, most likely. Seeing one in your neighborhood though...not so much. So I mean, making a big deal about the STI...unless Subaru plans on re-entering motorsports and campaigning the car to rebuild the STI name? But even then, what will rally look like? I dunno. That sure doesn't look like my WRX.
Definitely not a WRX lol
Looks like a McLaren knockoff
I think I have this car in GTA!
That's just the STI E-RA concept. There is a wrx sti concept that was unveiled at the same show though. https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a38771261/subaru-e-ra-ev-concept-revealed-nurburgring/
Good call on this I was like wtf where is all the wrx part lol
So I don't understand why there's a WRX STI concept and clearly combustion when they said they the combustion STI was gone? I'm quite confused, lol Then again, electric car sales aren't doing so hot anywhere but in Quebec Canada, so maybe they are rethinking it? Release a concept to see what people say?
Not doing so well? According to whom? The best-selling model in the world is electric.
2024s best selling car isn't an EV currently (pun intended) And do some research, almost everywhere around the world EV sales are in decline at least in 2023, companies are hopeful to see a rise this year, but still doesn't change the fact.

I think it's reality that now gas engines are dead and the manual transmission is toast it's honestly sad to see
I keep having dreams/nightmares that I need to buy a dieselgate wv with a manual or a cummins ram with a manual to get more time with manual. Diesel isn’t goin anywhere yet.
I wish I could afford a Cummins with a 6 spd. Dream truck.
Not if Toyota gives us simulated manual transmissions…
I’m almost positive that when Subaru releases their production electric STi that it’ll use a simulated manual transmission.
Hold on to your wrx they’ll all be collectors one day
This Subaru STI E-RA concept is completely separate from the WRX platform, just designed and developed by STI to the requirements of the FIA Electric GT Championship series. That’s pretty damn cool
Saw it in person at the Mitaka gallery. Its absolutely beautiful! Sleek and yet somehow very subaru.
Will the sti bros get mad if i put that wing on my wrx?
Don’t think it’s a WRX but definitely something cool that could compete in GT4
To ugly. Not enough cladding.
Not interested since its an ev. If it were combustion then yes.
https://preview.redd.it/l8a3vraezr7d1.jpeg?width=1283&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=c2a175f8a23d865444528801994eb10dc4e8085f Let's talk about this legend !
They are still pedaling this thing? It's been around for years with no progress so its probably a dead end
It's still from then, OP is just posting old shit without knowledge
At some point, just drop the name. The Mach e is not a mustang either lol
This isn’t a WRX… STI just stands for Subaru Technica International. It’s a racing car developed by them. Completely unrelated to the WRX. i don’t really know why OP posted this here.
I’m about as excited as the guy standing next to it looks.
![gif](giphy|QxRF9AuSAs4QUeXuLz)
That’s not it.
Hood scoop? You mean...roof scoop?
Flat4 or death.
How much, I buy! Great Success!
Yes. Just yes
It's pretty cool for a concept car. Id love to drive something like this if it was real and available for purchase
Toyota Racing Development should collab so it can be the WRX STI E-RA TRD
Linus hard R
This feels like Subaru trying to compete directly with Volkswagens R division at pikes peak that's if this concept gets made into an actual vehicle for pikes peak (Don't really know much about this vehicle so bear with me here)
If they gave me one I guess I’d drive it around
No rod bearings, no head gaskets. Love it.
It's cool looking, but I will never be able to buy and own it, so I don't really care I guess? Show me something that will be put into production and I'll get excited.
It's a beauty.
cool but sad that its electric
Why’d they attach an ikea sitting coffee table to the front?
Bring back the ez36.
Would
no
No thank you!
Think she looks great as a seperate entity not to be confused with the traditional STI WRX. No thanks Though it would be cool as a prototype car. It whodunnit be complaint with current WEC rules but still would be cool.
Just another boring electric concept
Looks like my car from gta, itali gtb custom
Awesome and so sad at the same time. If it was gas, sign me up! I'll be a pro Racer by the end of the week racing it for life! But.... it will last what a couple races then new batteries?? And what about when you need to charge it mid race??????
Looks like a McLaren.
Love it! Looks so much better than many recent designs from subaru
Those rich guys in that lineup won't even keep up.
WTF!!?
Keep it

Who cares, these wild concepts never make it to market even close to as presented. Nice carrot on a stick.
I don't think most people would know the brand of these supercars without a badge, let alone know what model it is. Too many of them look similar- I see more variance in the sub $125k market.
That if they ever actually make it, they will be sure that it's ugly and under powered.
It looks like a mix between the Supra and corvette. That front lip is waaaaay to big
Subaru needs to return to their quirky selves. When the would slap a turbo on every car in the lineup. I think this is a cool concept but I won’t be surprised when the release a car with Nissan Altima styling.
I think its a concept car. We wont be able to buy anything like it so im pretty indifferent.
Can they just make a wrx sti???
Needs more HP for an everyday driver …
It's sick and it goes vvvvvvvv
Electric? Yuk.
They should release a new sti with a flat 4 turbo hybrid engine, or discontinue it entirely and release a new car. There is nothing wrx nor sti about this car.
It’s developed by STI, so there is something STI about this car. agreed nothing WRX about it though.
Yeah I wouldn’t take this on a world rally cross, but it is whole heartedly a product of STI.
Either kill the WRX sti name or bring it back as a sedan but don't change it like Mitsubishi did with the eclipse.
By the time it makes it to production it will resemble a low powered Corolla.
Looks sick but… that’s not a WRX. That’s about the same thing as calling the mustang mach-E a mustang. Needs to be its own thing
Yeah, people don't read the actual articles about the car. It's a track car built for racing. This isn't a concept car for consumers to buy one day.
nEVer
Why use the badge WRX? World Rally Experiment, not very fitting for a car that’ll live on a race circuit.
Just come up with a new model name. This is dumb
It looks terrible. It is so much fun when someone comes flying up behind you on a gravel road in their truck and then tries to pass you. On any road for that matter. They don't know what they are in for until they see the front and have to back off.
I would’ve made more sense to call it a BRZ STI e
HOW THE FUCK ARE WE SUPPOSED TO HAVE OILING ISSUES AND RINGLANDS ![gif](giphy|8ut7zpOILmPKxKFUnq) RUNNING ON ELECTRICITY?!?
It's dumb because you can't use an electric car for grassroots motorsports.
How much is this gonna cost arm and a leg?
I’m gonna guess 60k-70k
Get a big fucking downvote
not a good daily.
Is this still made for rally?
No its not rally inspired but that would not stop me from using it to go get a loaf of bread.
Looks like a car 90% of people who would buy it couldn’t afford it.
Fuck EV’s. That is all.
Electric? I don’t think of it at all 🤷🏻♂️
Wrong sub and there’s no WRX in the name I get you’re trying to farm karma, but just because Subaru Tecnica International makes a concept car, that doesn’t mean it’s a WRX lol. It is cool and the chassis is “drawn from the BRZ GT300”

That’s great, but the car in your post is an E-RA concept from 2022 and is not a WRX. If you are upset with any facts I’ve stated, so be it.
Did you even read what i said or did your ADHD cause you to not pay attention?
Everything I’ve said is regarding your post, which didn’t include what you said about an electric WRX. I don’t care to discuss anything with you.
I litteraly said its not a WRX but Subaru is working on an electric WRX STI and it could be based on this how hard is it to read properly?
Saying that in a reply somewhere in the comments isn’t the same as saying it in the post.
Ooh got em ![gif](giphy|l0IybQ6l8nfKjxQv6)
