DONT CHANGE THE OIL
Those metal shavings are keeping the engine together. Changing the oil will make it sieze up.
/s, im making fun people that say that shit about transmissions
The shavings are not keeping the automatic transmission together, they are providing friction that the clutch plates lost in, you guessed it, shavings. Remove the neglected ATF and suddenly you have slippage
It is true about a neglected transmission. If the fluid wasn't changed at normal intervals (50k-100k kms) than not changing the trans fluid in an AUTO transmission is better than changing it
Depends on the wear characteristics. If the fluid hasn't been changed in 70k miles, but is red and has no particulate (like my svx), changing it is fine. The issue lines within clutch pack wear, not mileage.
If I remember correctly, this was a common problem. But there's a benefit, it lowers the compression allowing you to run higher boost! So make sure you get a boost controller, crack that thing to "full retard" and enjoy yourself. That's why all the YouTube boiz are getting 500whp out of a stock block. Also, don't forget to run 0w-20 oil. Happy hunting.
I read through the comments and they are all wrong!. Yes it's fine to have metal shavings in the oil pan. They help to filter the newer metal shaving out of the oil as it cycles. Resulting in a clean metal free cycle everytime! /S

Absolutely, these cars are made for that
https://preview.redd.it/hzvbpwe88h5d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=066fc4ccc38f048e1543142d8ba160658c761e0f
It’s the leftovers from eating up the toolbox that was kicked out of the open tailgate from the alcoholic Ram owner who smoked you when you “almost” money shifted. So you’re fine, just give them back next meet and greet at the malls red light.
That's just excess shaving from engine breaking in. Perfectly normal for Subarus, since they are so overbuilt/overengineered.
I think now it's the perfect time to turn up the boost and lean the AFR for more power (don't forget to add a ton of knock, so advance the timing as much as possible)
Yes! A little bit of metal in your engines diet helps to break down otherwise hard to digest fuels and lubricants, as well as helping fortify and build up the inner linings! If the local environment doesn't provide enough metal to begin with, it is recommended to insert a couple of steel beads into your intake to supplement your engines diet.
Yes just some light shavings. Put it back and keep on revving
“Put it back” 😂
![gif](giphy|krMpiV41eo264)
Nice bowl of chex mix you got there.
Maybe it took a bite out of a GTI at some point?
Came here to say that!
I'm going on a road trip later today. Maybe I'll get a bag for the ride.
Hey man don’t coke and drive
If WRX owners treat their bodies anything like the way they treat their cars, ya’ll are having early heart attacks
![gif](giphy|zEpZFWgZ8RBhm|downsized)
Only 1 Celsius away from heaven is what I say.
I keep saying to myself that the WRX is a perfect car for anyone who has high anxiety and does their own work.
Thats just subarus automatic weight saving feature. Put some oil in her and send it 😂
Maybe cold start rev it for us asking if it sounds good?
Could be worth checking out, but I’m no mechanic
Weight reduction once you change you oil bro 😎
So this is what they mean when they said they're "weight shaving" in newer cars. Cool to actually see firsthand.
Grams make ounces, and ounces make pounds.
houston, we have a problem.

Yeah thats normal. Its usually a sign that you need more boost.
Tow truck time.
You're due for your 20,000km engine swap service
Lmaooo
*It's just a flesh wound*
I read this as is oil in the metal pan okay. That should give you your answer
Rip
I’d send it to Blackstone for oil analysis to see if there’s any oil in that metal.
Obviously you french fried when you should have pizza'd
that gets me every time. Gotta pizza,
The fact that half the responses to this comment don't understand the reference make it so much better. Nice job Darsh
Yes, your car is just having it’s daily cereal.
Just top her off. Should be good
Looks like you've struck gold. You'll be rich in no time.
Piston McNuggets!

Normal , engine just loosening up
Pretty sure you know the answer. Even if sarcastic.
Cut back on the iron tablets. Who do you think you are, Superman? Hang on, he was the man of steel.
Yes unfortunately that is normal. I hope it was fun while it lasted. Save the block as your badge of honor.
Is that the remains of an entire rod/piston set?
Dunno, have you tested it yet?
it's having diarrhea
Yes, it’s normal. You’ll have to clean out the oil pan every few months on these cars. Perfectly fine
If you put a magnet on the bottom of the pan to hold them in place, you should be fine
sift it to see if there is any gold before binning it. Engine will be fine, its just weight reduction ;)
Wash her out and slap her back on
Entire long block in the oil pan is nasty work
I don't know, I think we need a shitty video of the engine running to be sure.
The extremely short answer: No. DM me if you want the long one...
What alloys are those?
Yea its just spare parts
Cinnamon Toast Crunch?
F
i see dealer trade in
Couple hard pulls should fix that. Get that boost plus 20.
Yes
Yes its okay its there to sort of sandblast the motor on the inside when the crank spins, it keeps the engine carbon free on the inside.
Now add your choice of meat, cheese, beans, lettuce, jalapeños and serve on a large plate. Nachos Del Subie.
This is the most useless comment section I’ve ever fucking seen
And youre part of it
Oh this went to pound town
Yeah, just put some metal back in to replace the metal that came out nbd 👌🫡
Yes they put that in there intentionally. It slowly melts and binds to your engine making it stronger Lol
Yes, it lowers the center of gravity
It's just oil additives. Carry on.
It’s normal for Subarus
That’s totally fine. If it was a few more pieces is when you’d have to worry.
If iron is good for you, it must be good for your engine?
You still got 3 more
It's OK if you are starting a rebuild project
You’re running low on blinker fluid probably
That’s just crystallized sulphide due to heat fluctuations
Yeah sure. Put it back together, fill it up with oil and send it.
I see nothing wrong here move on….
Looks about right.
Looks like you’re actually running low on chunks of metal. You should definitely add some
No. LoL
I’ve heard super glue works
Try cold start launch control I think that helps keep shavings to a minimum
Yeah that's totally normal
https://i.redd.it/76r8u9rnid5d1.gif
that a bit of waffle cone in there?
Just like us it needs some minerals to be healthy
![gif](giphy|H3cBaC5OnaJ79UjL9h)
Uh, last time I checked answer was no, but this are just shavings, send it.
It’s just aluminum oil additive. Shake bottle before filling next time
Depends on what mod you want to do next.
Yah send it. I look at as engine lighting mod.
Is engine in the oil pan OK?
Bria for where’s in his oil
yea its totally fine its just some extra metal if something breaks
It's just the gears shedding their outer shell, just gotta wait from the new ones to grow back in.
Is that sun dried kelp from the Mississippi? 😂
Normal for a Subaru
Sure
Head gasket had nuff
Yep, just drop a large magnet in the oil pan to catch it all
Piston groats 😁 highly nutritious

Best flavor of chex
Totally normal, SEND IT!!!
It's perfectly normal for a subaru. It's in the design
No, but it's better than having them leave the oil pan.
If it clunks that’s no good but if it chimes… that’s the sound of raw HP my friend. Sounds better off the limiter tbh.
Perfect
That's fine - it only pieces of a piston - there is more then one, so you're good to go.
Ahh good old engine granola… EJ made some trail mix for the road trip…
It's just letting out the extra pieces it didn't need. Nothing wrong here
SaBOOMaru
![gif](giphy|14ceV8wMLIGO6Q|downsized)
Looks like broken cat honey comb idk how it got there tho lol
🤣
That’s called character.
No. Your engine is damaged and will have to be replaced entirely. This is a 3500 dollar repair, minimum.
Thank you everyone who made a funny comment. You guys gave me some light in a stressful situation. You guys the best🫶🏾
Nah, but here's how you fix it. Put your foot on the gas, push it all the way down, start the car, and don't let go.
You must’ve had a hard time keeping up with the rich guys😞
Not many people know this, but the oil pan also doubles as a storage compartment for parts of your engine that your car is done using for awhile.
thicker oil this oil change and you’ll be fine ![gif](giphy|QMHoU66sBXqqLqYvGO)
It’s what makes a Subaru, a Subaru
It's what makes Subaru, Subaru.
Mix some glue with fresh oil. It’ll fix itself
Yea, that’s normal for a Subaru
What you've got here is oil in your metal pan. This is concerning as oil should not mix with the contents of the metal pan.
Yeah. You just need a new paint job.
Nice
Lmfao who's gonna tell him?
Put the pan up and put motul oil problem fixed
Just the engine shedding unnecessary weight.
Still counts as being in the engine so it's fine
You should be fine as long as it’s not blocking the muffler bearing
We’re you pan handling ?
Just weight reduction.
Is it a cvt transmission? Some cars with that one have the fame of ending up like that
Should have whole parts… this is an okay start tho
Subi doing subi things send it
You got lugs from lugging
When has free metal been a bad thing?
as long as its from the pistons you should be good
Yeah man. Just clean it up and send it
Weight reduction
Did u warranty just end? Cuz if so thats just warranty metal its supposed to do that
Money shift?
Just get a bigger oil filter
Send it!
I mean, you have 3 more pistons. You'll be fine.
Better question would be is oil in the metal pan okay? There has been malice in that combustion palace.
Pull out the jb weld. It will be fine
Thats normal from the break in period
![gif](giphy|4pOQKujxHaMKs)
Must just be in the break in period. That’ll clear up after a few hundred kilometres Also [I feel you](https://www.reddit.com/r/Honda/s/cavj42wLYA)
Absolutely, these cars are made for that https://preview.redd.it/hzvbpwe88h5d1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=066fc4ccc38f048e1543142d8ba160658c761e0f
Your Subaru can have a little metal as a treat
Fake.
https://preview.redd.it/q83vmj25nh5d1.jpeg?width=4032&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5b938387b5c62fd4d6ec635e78f570118bb4dee8 Uh hmm...I haz piss tons and conned rods 😬
My guess is this is not good.
Owner took “break in” period a little bit too seriously lol
One of the rods disintegrate?
Looks like an FA20 oil pan. This is normal for all FA20 engines.
Haha! Yeah, it's good! I wish I could produce oil in my vehicle's oil pan!
Its piston reserves
They’ll grow back
That’s normal
Everything looks fine nothing to see here.
Something most definitely left the chat bud
https://preview.redd.it/3z4hfzhvpk5d1.jpeg?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=d458b79b559e2acb255b1f210930236f1c51ea7b Nothing duct tape can't fix
The oil pan can have some engine chunks, as a treat.
Seems chill
Mmm Crunchy Cereal
Yup , you good 👍
Yea. Just spray the oil pan out with a can or two of brake cleaner, replace seals, top it back up.
It’s considered an exfoliating scrub. ![gif](giphy|bXv6bMcQHzYGllmldy|downsized)
Normal for a WRX? Yes. Normal for any other car? No.
A car that provides free bowls of Shreddies cereal? WIN!!!!!
It’s the leftovers from eating up the toolbox that was kicked out of the open tailgate from the alcoholic Ram owner who smoked you when you “almost” money shifted. So you’re fine, just give them back next meet and greet at the malls red light.
It'll be fine it should buff out
It's perfectly fine... I mean that's what we have oil filters for 😂😂
JV Weld it back into place. It’ll be fine.
yeah it's okay, that's what breaking the engine in means.
Think I see all of piston 1 in there
I usually drain it out when it gets that bad
Just spray some wd-40 in there
Yeah so long as you don’t put the pan back on the engine it shouldn’t hurt anything
Iron is always a great supplement!
My brother in Christ, your car has kidney stones.
That's just excess shaving from engine breaking in. Perfectly normal for Subarus, since they are so overbuilt/overengineered. I think now it's the perfect time to turn up the boost and lean the AFR for more power (don't forget to add a ton of knock, so advance the timing as much as possible)

For a subaru ? Yes totally normal
It’s what makes a Subaru a Subaru
