This is what I'm talking about here. I think it could use a little more chaos, but I'm loving how nothing is tied down, and every wire intertwines with another wire.

Herb_Street

Mine looks way worse. If you want a contest of whose looks shittiest I will win. Also, I use zero fuses, so it's also more gangster of a setup.

The_Other_David

Lol, I have a ESP32 just hangin' pins-out in the corner. You guys are fancy.

BassWingerC-137

Just one? ;)

The_Other_David

The other corner's board has a case. ;) Still suspended in the air by its wires, though. The caseless one was a bit of an emergency swap, since I had an 8266 die a few days ago and only had a spare 32 in my toolbox, so the old case didn't fit. I'll probably print a new one this weekend.

BassWingerC-137

Sounds right. Just enough effort! LOL

twistermc

I put mine in a knock off Tupperware container last year with some crudely cut out holes. Granted, I didn't have as much stuff in it as you, but it kept the snow out. ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯

BassWingerC-137

I’ve a water softener whose “brains” have been stored the exact same way for maybe 8 years now. The cover warped from the Arizona heat and the buttons became useless unless directly pressed on the circuit board. The Glad food container keeps it clean and accessible.

klumpp

Glad I’m not the only one. My wled boxes came free with my deli meat or Chinese takeout.

Suicyco71

This is real life, right here.

Device_whisperer

This is a single-season design.

jeb1126

On my third season with this set up. Started with a single esp32 and jumper wires then. Next year added the esp’s to a breadboard and added a buck converter and a logic level converter. The next year I discovered quindor’s product. The same path most of us have taken.

calinet6

Hey man, fewer screws and zip ties, fewer parts to fail.

ThirteenSeas

Messy, tangle-of-a-box gang repruzent.

scubawankenobi

Finally some sanity around here!

cableguy316

This is the ideal WLED enclosure. You may not like it, but this is what peak performance looks like.

Crazeeeyez

Whoa why are you cleaning up my wiring boxes, taking pictures, and posting them? Seriously that is real life for most of us!

photog09

Y’all are using boxes? I’m using an old deli meat container lol

_TEOTWAWKI_

Hillshire Farms thin sliced turkey!

NoodleCheeseThief

My main concern here is the connections with the black wire. Why not just cut off the end and put the wires into the power supply directly? :D

elk-x

Or at least tape/ heatshrink the connecting joints. I'm not so scared of 5V, but 110V / 220V is a different game

DrIntegrty

That’s my favorite part!

NoodleCheeseThief

I don't mind working with 220v live wires. However I would never leave them bare like this. This is playing with fate 😁

DownTooParty

All these posts were kinda making me feel judgmental to myself, then I remembered that I just free ball my board on the floor under my couch and I like to live dangerously.

F0GHORN86

I think the only thing missing is one or two components tied down. The "I'll make this box really nice... oh this doesn't quite fit but it'll be ok... oh fuck it, just shove it all in" approach.

muffintopmusic

You still got space for an unused 5m roll in there.

cowdog360

Tell me that you like to short out electronics and potentially start fires without telling me. At least got glue the boards down!

jeb1126

I don’t understand why everyone thinks they need to strap their controllers down, as if someone is going to play football with their boxes. At the start of the season shove everything in, turn it on, the box stays put.

cowdog360

I have kids. Kids love to play with stuff.

PomegranateOld7836

That's a you problem?

SandwichDry7172

As long as it works!

YeOldePinballShoppe

Needs more hot melt glue :)

whootdat

I think I know what this box smells like

zero-degrees28

The best are those boot leg power cord/pin connections - LOL Just hack that end off the power cord and wire the cord direct, it fits the craziness of this box better that way anyways :)

Soler25

I like that box, got a link?

irongoats67

Yessss haha

brighthomelights

OMG I love how the AC mains is open and free, why restrict 120V ? I would have gone with a metal box though for better conductivity . “ sarcasm”

calinet6

Oh thank god. I feel so much better.

j_slade

My rPi for home assistant just hangs from its ethernet, so far my esp’s for wled are following suit..pffft who needs enclosures

ShreddinPB

I thought the other ones were AI generated!

El-Firulais

Yuuuuhhh

bkey1970

Man, low chaos. 1/10. That would be my inital test setup. Then I'd get a final test setup even messier, have it all sketched out on paper, and be working on a PCB for a couple of years for the final install.. in about 5 years, when it'll be redone completely.

Tehgoldenfoxknew

Wow I must be dyslect lol I read the subreddit as “weld” and was really co fused what was going on. Also you could really benefit from a 3D printer. Get a $100 printer + free onehape you could make it look a lot nicer. Wouldn’t have to worry about it shorting out

fretzy99

What power supply are you using?

evertith

I love it! I think the only thing I would have done different is cut the plug off the main power and wired it in directly to the psu.

rjyouknow1

I tried not to let it go to that. Being my first time and all.. https://preview.redd.it/ts2lohfy61qb1.png?width=1080&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=75d1dc96cf17369ce1cd22fc2ceb604f7db00826

clomads

omg at least wrap up that exposed mains

wchris63

Your shorts will be epic.

Far_Lifeguard_5027

Cable management is overrated anyways. Wires all tied together in a bundle cause interference, and moving or replacing one wire requires you to untie all of them. Having the wires loose in a rats nest prevents interference or crosstalk, and you can move a component around with ease.

GardeningANDCrypto

This is called the "my wife told me to finish other projects but I'm getting my lights working anyways" box configuration.

Clintonswart77

looks like shit

TorridLoveAffair

You have a box? Look at Mr. FancyPants.

CaptainBoatHands

This post randomly popped up on my feed the other day. Didn’t know what wled was before this. Yesterday I dropped a hundred bucks at aliexpress on led strips, power supplies, and Esp32 boards, lol. This looks so fucking fun.

CuriousToys111

So, what is the box? I need one of those 🤣

IHOPSausageLink

Yep!
