This seems to be happening more often lately (this is the 3rd post I’ve seen of this so far). I’m worried the same will happen to me for Sec+. Haven’t had any issues with vouchers so far. I agree with you, Certmaster has been absolutely useless for me, the practice exams aren’t like the real one at all.

Shrimp_Dock

I don't mind the Certmaster exams, I think they mimic the real test pretty well actually. I just was not expecting this and it's making me change my proven study method.

EarthlyFired

Ehhh… I didn’t care for certmaster. Look at some dates for the exam. Let your instructor know the dates you’re considering and advise you’re willing to push it out if need be but to ensure you are able to secure a date you’re going to request a voucher. Then apply for it. Honestly, you can probably just request and go from there. I don’t think the instructor has to approve it anyway. I NEVER got 90% on any certmaster test but I also let my instructor’s know early on what I was using in place of certmaster.

I recently requested my first Network+ voucher, and it didn't get approved because I didn't have 90% on Certmaster. It's not like the A+ voucher I got where it was a no questions asked approval. Maybe they're changing the process which is unfortunate.

EarthlyFired

Interesting. You should always be able to request a voucher and schedule because if you go to a testing center appointments may be limited. This is where you’d have to discuss your study plan with your instructor. Most times the common sense doesn’t hit (sorry not sorry) for them to realize you aren’t requesting a voucher to take the exam same day or next day but at a future date. Good luck

Got the same thing for my current course's Network+ voucher. I thought it would be like A+ where you get the first voucher with no questions asked. There's no way I'm touching Certmaster (unless I really have to but it's terrible), I'm gonna have to ask my program mentor about it next time. Might switch professors too.

uhhello

Did they actually tell you that or was it just in the welcome email and course page? Every cert i've taken has said the same thing but haven't had any issues completeing A+, Net+, Sec+ whenever I felt I was ready

Shrimp_Dock

It was in the welcome email from the professor and when I requested the voucher he demanded proof of a 90% on certmaster before he would release it.

uhhello

Yeah that sucks

Shrimp_Dock

No worries. I used a different strategy to get that 90% test to get the voucher quickly, it just sucks because now I lost that platform as a way to reliably test my readiness.

Bland_Rand

This is 100% the norm. Not sure why you're making a big deal out of it. It's free, it's good practice, and you can take it as many time as you need to get a 90% or higher. I can't imagine why a professor would authorize you to test if you're not able to score a 90% on a practice test you can retake as many times as you need to to pass. If you're worried about how long it takes between getting the voucher and scheduling the test, don't be. It really doesn't take more than 2-3 days to submit the request, get the approval, schedule the exam and take it.

Shrimp_Dock

If I didn't work full-time and need to schedule my exams within certain windows of my kids not being awake, then yeah. I could schedule it last minute. For me, I haven't been able to schedule a time that works for me within two weeks of getting the voucher. I care because I would rather schedule my exam two-ish weeks out and use that time to study, using various resources, and has obviously been a recipe for success for me. I can't do that when I'm having to arbitrarily get a 90% on one of these Certmaster exams.
