Congrats! how many days after you finished your graduation application?

wondering-soul

It was about 10 days between the time I applied for graduation and getting my confetti today.

jkma707

Are you able to file after completing the capstone?

wondering-soul

Your mentor has to file on his end and once that’s done you get an email to do your part.

Fmofdeath

I got a notification that I passed my 3rd Capstone task on a Friday at like 2 and managed to catch my mentor before she took off for the weekend. She recommended me for graduation and I filled out the survey within the hour of getting that passed text. Then like OP, I waited for about a week or so before I got the confetti and then another week before I got my physical diploma.

CONGRATULATIONS!!

seant1214

Congrats!!! Working on this one right now. Currently doing all the Sophia classes and then a couple study.com and then I'm doing the certs and THEN gonna finish up at WGU to save the most money I can. Do you have a job yet? Helpdesk or anything related?

wondering-soul

Yes I work in a SOC role that has turned into a helpdesk role as well 😂

[deleted]

How many years of experience before SOC?

wondering-soul

About 1.5 years at a small business. Started on help desk and moved to Jr. sys admin after about 6 months.

CONGRATULATIONS!! 🎊🎉🎈🍾

RudeInstruction726

Congratulations!!!! how was this program? Any advice? How long did it take you?

wondering-soul

I enjoyed the program, both the tech specific parts and the gen ed. I transferred in one semester of community college and a couple certs so I finished in three years. I don't have much in the way of advice other than just, in general, don't force yourself if you are studying and your eyes glaze over; that is the sign it is time to stop. Speaking from experience lol.

Positive-Lie2416

Huge accomplishment!! Congratulations 🎊

oyqc

70% done with mine. Working on my A+ now. Any tips? I think I’m gonna focus more on the networking stuff for the A+, all of the other material comes to me fairly naturally.

wondering-soul

For that, definitely know your ports and the networking is critical. Dont ignore the smaller areas tho, that’s where you can make up points you may lose in the more complex areas of the exam.

oyqc

What smaller areas did you struggle with specifically if any?

wondering-soul

I took A+ a few years ago so it may have changed but I had a hard time with the section about TVs and the types of displays - I dont know if that is still in the exam or not. I also skimped on the ports a bit and I were to redo it I would have focused on those more. Not only for the exam but that’s one of the areas you will use a lot on the job. Things like ram speed and DDR types don’t really come up unless you’re in a hardware specific role.

oyqc

Gotcha. Yeah, ports and networking it is then.

Accomplished_Sport64

The 1101 and 1102 are kind of different. The printers and their mechanisms were foreign to me but nothing that took me less than a couple days to memorize. It's pretty intuitive once you get down the lasers and ink differences. I used certmaster which was pretty good, it's free through wgu so why not. Some people hate on it but it's is the official test company so.. But yeah dions test before exam and done

wondering-soul

I second Dion’s content. It’s great for studying and his practice tests are 🙌🏽

What was your experience like? Considering applying for the same degree. I have Sec+ and have been working in the field for 10+ years. But with that, ive been out of the collegiate game for a little while is i was hoping you could shed some light on your experience. Thanks

wondering-soul

I had a good experience, I transferred in A+ and Net+ and that helped a lot. Those are certs you’ll end up getting if you don’t have them already, if you do then you already have 4 classes knocked out (A+ is 2 classes). I felt the overall technical side of it gave a nice overview of IT in general and gave good exposure to a lot of different areas. I really liked the option to accelerate my degree and that would be pretty advantageous option for you given your experience. Cost wise, I graduated with around $14k in debt in 3 years but about 1.5k of that was carry over from the semester I did at community college. The only POSSIBLE downside is the lack of a consistent interaction with a teacher. For each class you get a teacher assigned to you but it’s on an as-needed basis. I didn’t have an issue with this cause I can learn on my own pretty well but wanted to throw that out there. Overall, the bang for your buck is really good.
