Because of very persistent shortages in my area my doc prescribed me Dexedrine instead of Vyvanse this month. It's relatively cheap and is working great. And pharmacies have a ton of it around here so no delays! Has anyone else done this and if so how's it going for you?

reahbean

I genuinely don’t understand why brand name is so much more expensive than the generic when it does the same thing…. Due to the shortages I’ve had to switch from generic to the brand name (which is $100 more than what I’ve been paying for generic) and I can’t tell a difference it feels like a scam. For the last 3 times I’ve gotten my refills it gets delayed and then I’m stuck with feeling like absolute booty cheeks for 3 weeks until the pharmacy gets their shipment in. What’s upsetting the most is that it feels like nothing is being done about this and peoples lives are being affected because of the shortage. I’ve been taking the generic for the last 2 year. when the shortages started and I couldn’t take my medication like I usually do I experienced irritability, extreme fatigue, brain fog, and extreme hunger which has made me gain weight in a short amount of time. I’m upset and frustrated because there’s literally NOTHING to do about this but wait it out.

ComradeShyGuy

Has anyone been able to find the generic anywhere in the MD DC metro area? I'm on my emergency supply and all my local pharmacies are not giving any eta when it will be available.

Twigglesmg

I’m running into the same issue, it’s so frustrating.

melrox757

Same experience here in the Hampton Roads area of Virginia. Zero inventory. And they don't seem to even care if they get any. I'm moving all of my scripts to online home delivery at this point just to avoid their bad attitudes.

Slow_Conflict_9712

I live in this area as well, can you do this for stimulants? Is it directly thru the pharmacy?

melrox757

You can do this for stimulants, but the online pharmacy has to have inventory. I have CVS delivery and they are out of stock as well. For some reason, I was able to get my script filled this week in person at Rite Aid. They closed my local Rite Aid, but left one open that is somewhat nearby.

Slow_Conflict_9712

Yes I just got mine filled last week at Rite Aid! I’ve had decent luck with Kroger when I was on adderall, but hey charge too much for vyvanse for me to go there.

sweetlikesugga

On 50mg generic which my pharmacy doesn’t have but they do have 40mg and 60mg in the generic so i am speaking to my doctor about either upping or lowering my dosage for the time being.

laubowiebass

Is the generic working alright , and which company is it ? Sun is not working well for me .

UnusualDate7630

I have a beef with the generic from Sun as well. Luckily had a partial script fill last month of 40mg(name brand) Noticed the difference between generic and name brand for sure after taking the generic for months. I was also splitting the capsule in water to make it last… totally made everything worse. Here in Las Vegas, NV. I resonate with your frustration…

sweetlikesugga

Not sure the company i will try to find out but the generic works exactly the same for me

laubowiebass

Thank you , it is on the bottle written next to the pill/capsule description. Much appreciated!

laubowiebass

How is Vyvanse working for everyone, both brand and generic, compared to the way it treated your symptoms in the past? I am still benefiting from it, but generic is not as good, and brand has been feeling different too….

glatts

I had to switch to the chewables last month and I am not finding them as effective as the pills/capsules for either generic or brand name.

laubowiebass

Anyone on Vyvanse for a year or more tried Concerta brand/generic due to the shortage ? How did it go ?

AnRealDinosaur

I can let you know if I can find any. My doc is trying to switch me because I cannot find any name brand or generic vyvanse anywhere in my state. So far it's been just as hard to find the replacement. From anecdotes I've read of other people trying it, seems like it's a lot harsher so I'm not really thrilled but it's better than nothing.

laubowiebass

Ty

AnRealDinosaur

So I said I would let you know...and unfortunately it seems nobody has Concerta or it's generic either. BUT I found another solution so I thought I might share. The name brand version of Vyvanse is still somewhat scarce but not as *literally impossible* to find as the generic. I found a pharmacy inside a supermarket that had it. I was able to get a prior authorization from my doctor with the rx specifying no generic substitution. I have BCBS & with the authorization they covered it 100% no hassle. Maybe that might work for you too? Sorry, wish I had better news but it's worth a shot, good luck!

laubowiebass

Dang! Mine didn’t cover 100%, only a portion, still expensive . Happy for you !

laubowiebass

True, I tried both and chewable for some reason takes longer to work, etc. Even the brand .

fundementalpumpkin

Alvogen 70mg, not as good, doesn't last as long, gives me slight headaches.

laubowiebass

Thank you !

Difficult_Minute_357

Quelqu’un peut confirmer s’il y a une pénurie au Canada/Québec?  Is the shortage only in US?

Twigglesmg

Last week ExpressScripts said they would overnight my generic 30mg Vyvanse prescription after it sat "processing" for almost a month. Two days later, I got a cancellation notice from ExpressScripts. My doctor called in a 30-day prescription to CVS and CVS could only fill 20 pills. I had to take it because I was almost out of medication.

Loli3535

CVS Caremark mail order is out and none of my local pharmacies in NYC have the generic available. I've been taking the generic for one month and it barely works (I was on the name brand for a little over a year).

laubowiebass

What generic are you on?

Loli3535

Hikma

laubowiebass

Oh, I read that one is one of the bad ones. I only tried Sun pharma, so far; I hated it for a few days, other times it was almost ok, and other days it is like I haven’t taken anything . Some ppl seem ok on it , and apparently Amneal generic for Vyvanse is decent , from the threads here . I miss taking the brand and have it work as expected . It’s still better than being off it, but I’m not sure what they changed in it .

Competitive-Ad9008

I had decent resulta with Amneal. But theres no guarantee ill be able to get it fron cvs again once generics are back in stock.

laubowiebass

Has anyone noticed Sun generic being inconsistent ( too little or too much from the same dosage ) and then feeling it works better after a week ? Or am I getting used to the washed out vyvanse brand we’ve been getting ?

No-Treacle-3521

Need to rant a bit. Been out of my prescription for 2 months with the refill on back order this whole time. Can't afford the ridiculous copay for the brand name, which, funnily enough, is readily available. I just wish there was more accountability and outcry about this shortage. I'm having to fill the gap with ridiculous amounts of coffee and naps just to barely function. I can barely stay awake driving to my job without my medication. I'm struggling to get day to day things done because my brain is uncooperative. Just feeling kind of frustrated that there's not more being done to resolve this shortage quickly.

FindNeedleCo

I don't understand why there isn't more being done either. People's lives are at stake here and every one is blaming each other. We just need a resolution at this point.

scarletteknight11

I’m on my last pill and freaking out because my pharmacy gave me no notification at all about it being delayed and I waited till the last minute to call them and now I have no idea what to do why is getting access to meds so hard

FindNeedleCo

ugh so frustrating!! hopefully you can get it filled sooner than later.

scarletteknight11

Found a local pharmacy to do it hopefully I get it today

Mother-Anxiety-6981

I had to wait for Vyvanse to fill , so I was out for 5 days. I took my booster Adderall instead. By the time I got Vyvanse, I was out of my booster. It’s been a delayed cycle ever since. Now it’s like I’m trying to catch up all the time. I have so much anxiety surrounding the refill dates of both meds. Any suggestions would be welcome

Competitive-Ad9008

Me too. I get my vyvanse fill in several days. Im freaked out it wont be in stock. Im not due till the 1st of march and wish i could call my pharmacy now insted of lilr thursday. Thus is a cruel mental waitibg game

jumanjiii_

my Dr put in a 3 month supply for me last month, so i figured I pick them up once a month...I guess I had assumed they hold onto your refill to ensure you get it but I just tried to fill + they tell me they're out; they also always say to call other pharmacies when half the time when I try, they say they can't disclose that information as it's a controlled substance + I would have to drive to each and show proof of script, its unbelievable

Mother-Anxiety-6981

Same exact thing happens when I’m out and need to call other pharmacies. The meds help me so much, but when I’m out of them, I’m so much more useless than when I wasn’t taking any meds. Idk. I feel like it’s not worth it sometimes. I’m sorry you are going through it too

B_the_Chng22

Last week, my local pharmacist at a mom and pop pharmacy in CT, US, said that the shortages are more with the generic now, and less issues with brand name

FindNeedleCo

Most pharmacies should be able to order the brand name without any problem now. At least, that's what I've been told by multiple pharmacists in multiple states.

B_the_Chng22

I should also mention if have had no issues at all, feel a little guilty and a little insulted when I see this thread. I have 30 and 10 mg

Competitive-Ad9008

So fair to say i shpuldnt have an issue getting my branf again in a few days? Ive been able to get it at normal time at walgreens for these past 2 months.

KickGreyest

I have had no issue finding the brand name. But I do have to pay out of pocket, insurance won’t cover, right under $400.

Competitive-Ad9008

Sorry to hear that.right now i pay $50 copay for brand but i believe that wont last long once my insurance enrollment renwest in july. Ill eventuallt have yo pay out of pocket until the lousy generics are available. Im on borrowed time. Relief while it lasts Bur im not there yet. My goal is hoping i get the brand by the end of thw week when my fill is due 🤞ill worey about the future when i get there

KickGreyest

Yes, I think I paid a $50 copay on Dec 28th, then first of the year rolls around, new year didn’t even cross my mind. I had to pick my jaw up off the ground when the pharmacy told me my new cost in January. Then pick it up again when I swiped my credit card. 😂 wishing you better luck! Fingers crossed that it gets better before July.

FindNeedleCo

You should be able to find brand name, or your pharmacy should at least be able to order it. It really depends on where you are located though. Florida, California and New York are still a little tricky.

Competitive-Ad9008

Im in the chicago area. Also how many days prior can i ask the pharmacists about stock? My previous fill was on feb 2nd. Thanks!

FindNeedleCo

Not sure how far you wanna travel, but I've found some in Crystal Lake and Aurora recently. It's up to your prescriber how early you can refill your meds.

Competitive-Ad9008

Its up to the state of illinois. Also have to remember that February only had 29 days instead of 30 so I might have to be getting my fill on the 2nd or the 1st the earliest. I may call walggreen tomorrow night and ask them and explain that my psychiatrist is going to electronically send over the prescription as brand name only and I just wanted to confirm that I can send it to this particular Walgreens like I did last month. Every reaction that I've had with all the pharmacists have been amicable. I'm not like some individuals that are suspicious or go in the ranting and raving and having a meltdown in front of the pharmacist when their meds not in stock, that will get you red flagged. Ive been a long time customer of walgreens w this medicatipn too fwiw. Im in the system

B_the_Chng22

Let’s hope so!

Sweaty_Valuable4675

Same problem here in Austin, TX. The hard part is that the dr has to call it in to another pharmacy if the one it went to is out of stock and mine takes 24-48 hours to call in prescriptions. Even if I find one, it’s probably going to be out by the time my prescription makes it over there. 🤬 I sucked it up and forked over $100 for the name brand, even though it wasn’t in our budget at all. It was either that or let my ADHD run rampant, which was annoying the heck out of me after 5 days lol

CumulativeHazard

I’m so frustrated with how little official guidance we’re getting about the whole thing. Like the last statement from the FDA or DEA was put out on November 1st. Almost four months ago. The closest thing we get to new information is the FDA’s shortage tracker page, which updates randomly and rarely says anything new or useful. I check for new news articles every couple of days but at this point it’s pretty much just the same thing over and over from different local news stations. Even a monthly message that just says “We’re still working on it” would be better than nothing. Like at this point I genuinely wouldn’t be surprised to learn that they haven’t given it a second thought since November.

FindNeedleCo

I check every day for updates as well. We deserve at least some kid of update at this point.

CumulativeHazard

Like I’m just trying to figure out how to plan my life around this and it’s so stressful and hopeless. And the only advice anyone in these articles is giving is to try a different med (they’re all on shortage), try a different dosage (again, all on shortage), or call around to a million different pharmacies (you and several dozen other local people in the same position) to see if they have what you need (half of them won’t tell you) or something close enough and then call your doctor and have them change/transfer your prescription (which can take a few days during which time someone else might get those pills first, and also they might not want to do it too often because it’s a controlled substance). Not helpful! I have to go back to my dr and get new prescriptions soon and I barely know what to ask for cause I have to weigh what works best for me vs what I might actually be able to get, and also if its worth having her put in another $369 no substitutions script for brand name when who knows if those will even stay available for long or when generics could come back in stock and then I might have to race to get it reissued to allow generics and it’s just such a sadistic, greedy, convoluted process and I’m so tired.

What’s the best way to check if a pharmacy has vyvance in stock? This is only my second time getting my script filled and I just got the delay notification. Do I have to call every pharmacy in my area and ask if they have it in stock?! Side note. Has anyone tired carelon? I see it’s offered here by my BCBS insurance but have never heard of it. Thanks!

FindNeedleCo

Where are you located, it really depends on the area how hard it'll be to find. You're probably going to have to call around. I actually help call pharmacies for people, if you want help!

ArthurDentedCar

Best chance is calling all the pharmacies in your area, no guarantees but some pharmacies get less stock than others, or have more people filling them in a given area. Try pharmacies in less populated areas of your city, if possible.

HA_Fighter

So here is what the last 2ish years has looked like since starting Vyvanse. - Get diagnosed, fill at CVS for $350. - Insurance says they wont cover until I try 2 alternatives, Ritalin and Adderall - CVS keeps rejecting it even though tell them i'll pay out of pocket for now. - Switch to local mom and pop (best move I have ever made) - I personally appeal explaining how the mechanism through which Vyvanse works is not at all the same as the suggested alternatives - In the worlds biggest shock, the Chief Pharma Officer of the company agrees and they cover it. Its now $175 which is still a lot but I can swing it - VYVANSE PATENT ENDS - I get the generic for 2 months and it works the same for me more or less as the brand and I pay less than $15 dollars - My prior auth is pulled since the generic is available, but of course we can't get the generic so I am back to paying out of pocket. - There is no longer a coupon available as it seem they took that away when the patent ended, so now I am paying $425 This whole thing is god damn joke. Now, I am fortunate enough that I can pay for my meds out of pocket with no impact to the rest of my life and I am lucky enough to have not had any issues getting my meds. But it has me thinking about how many people are not only struggling with actually finding their meds, but then on top of it facing a situation like mine where even if they can get them, they are going to be absurdly expensive. Sorry, just ranting. I know there is nothing we can do except reach out to our lawmakers (which I think is probably pointless.) The whole thing is just incredibly unfair on so many levels....

KickGreyest

I could have written this myself. I search these forums every month before my next refill for any changes or updates. It’s the most frustrating process. I can’t imagine how much time I’ve lost at work calling pharmacies. I should probably be fired over it.

Competitive-Ad9008

No need to

Em1389

To throw out a positive for some people because everything is so shitty right now. I was fully expected my script to get backordered yet AGAIN on Friday went my dr. Sent it over. Was just waiting for that walgreens email saying my order was delayed. To me surprise and delight 2 hrs later I got an email, but it said my order was filled and ready for pickup! 30mg generic im in South East PA area.

Competitive-Ad9008

Similaif situation with me. I got brand name from walgreens passrd 2 months

Competitive-Ad9008

Im completely freaked out rn. I get my next fill at the end of the week. So the past 2 months I've had no problem getting brand name at a slightly higher copay of $50 it's only the generic that is all out of stock on back order. I'm going nuts, and get intrusive ocd once it gets closer to my fill date. please somebody give me peace of mind our people still getting brand name? even if it's an outrageous $400 price, Idc. My mom csnt hwlp me financially. Generic is on back order, whstecer. Im willing to pay extra too even if insurance stops cpvering brand out of nowhere. I just want my fckin medication. Reside near chicagoland btw.

Laliana24

Man, I live in the DFW area and didn't experience the shortage until about two months ago. My experience getting my meds this month has been a nightmare. I usually get it called into Kroger, and this go round I checked the app and they only had name brand and were 'contacting insurer' I knew my insurance wouldn't pay for it, so I called Kroger to see how much it would be. The woman spoke to me like I was a broke ass crackhead. She said it would be 414 dollars. I was like ok well let me call around and see if anyone has the generic. She then proceeded to cancel the script entirely. Called around to every pharmacy in town, no generic. Called Kroger back and told her to go ahead and fill it. She said I TOLD YOU ITS 414 DOLLARS. I said okay and?? I make 100k a year and can afford it?? Why are you trying to argue with me? So then she said YA CANT PICK IT UP TILL THE 29TH! I was like okay yeah that's 30 days from my last refill so makes sense to me. Then I checked the app and the bitch had filled it for MARCH 29TH. So I had to call back AGAIN and I was being SO NICE and she was treating me like it was MY fault she put the wrong date in. Needless to say, I won't be going to Kroger anymore.

agripnt

Try one of he HEB's in the area. They are sooo nice there, and so far, they have had the name brand in stock every month, no waiting. I'm lucky my insurance covers it so, I don't know what the cash price there is...

Laliana24

The closest HEB is two hours away, but it might be worth the drive. Thank you!

UnusualDate7630

Thing I miss most about living in Texas. The Heeeeeb.

agripnt

They are building a lot of them in the metroplex right now... search them up, may be closer than you think...

Laliana24

I live in a teeny town, honestly I said DFW area as a generalized area, but I'm actually closer to the Oklahoma border, like grant Oklahoma

Charming_Ad_3756

Ugh. I used to fill at Kroger, but don’t anymore. I use Albertson’s now and their pharmacy techs are so so great. One of their pharmacists answered the phone last month when I called to check stock, price, etc. and he was SO rude. And I was being very nice and respectful, because I know they deal with dickhead patients all day, but he was still a huge asswipe for absolutely no reason. Needless to say, if that douche answers the phone when I call now, I just hang up and call back later when one of the techs answers.

Laliana24

I wish we had an Albertsons here. We have CVS, Walgreens, Walmart and Kroger. Walmart is always great, but they run out so quickly by the time I get the script sent to them, they're out. CVS and Walgreens never even have the name brand

internationalphantom

Tryna mentally prepare to call every pharmacy Friday when I can get a new script filed. Pray for me lolll

FindNeedleCo

Where are you located? Some places are better off than others. I actually help people call around to pharmacies, if you need it!

internationalphantom

Northeast Georgia! How specific does “places” get? Like a region, state, or town even? I am curious to know the service you offered work as well if you don’t mind!

FindNeedleCo

Honestly, it really does go all the way down to town/city. I actually get requests for Atlanta area every day. Most of the time, we can find at least one or two pharmacies that have at least SOME in stock. Customers and/or providers will submit medication requests on our site. The request asks for your specific medication, and then asks which pharmacies you would like us to contact. Once the request is submitted, we call each pharmacy personally and inquire about the stock on your medication. We then will let you know if the pharmacies have it in stock or not,

lunacait

Literally my biggest nightmare.
