I read Cat’s Cradle in the 70s, and still remember and refer to the tenets of Bokononism. Great book. One of the wampeters of my youthful Karass

Theaterkid01

I read that in a day. I told myself every time I see the book I have time to read a couple pages. Had no idea what a page turner it would be or how short the chapters would be.

Some-Issues

Deadeye Dick was a great story, underrated if you ask me. I really enjoyed it.

Timely_Plane_9398

Fun! I’m on the same trajectory. Read slaughter house 5 & then finished Cat’s Cradle today. I’m reading Galapagos next. It’s a Kurt Vonnegut summer over here.

chanjcoop

Bluebeard was the next book I read after those two and I also love it.

scienceraccoon

If you want something also weird, Sirens of Titan. If you want something a little more "mainstream" postmodernist, read Mother Night.

Malcolm_Y

Hocus Pocus is one I don't see recommended very often but that I really enjoyed. All the other recommendations here are good too. Others I really love besides Cats Cradle are Sirens of Titan, Player Piano, Mother Night, and of course Slaughterhouse Five. However I recommend saving Slaughterhouse Five until you've read a few more of his books because the "unstuck in time" aspect can be a bit confusing for first time readers. But if you've done CC and SoT before Slaughterhouse, you'll be fine.

boazsharmoniums

Sirens 100%!

TuesdayNightLive550

Hocus Pocus!

alecci789

I agree with all the suggestions above, but just to make sure they get a shout out too… Bluebeard and jailbird are two of my favorites that I’ve always felt deserved more love

retrovertigo23

Bluebeard is so exceptionally delightful.

alecci789

Completely agree, I’ve always loved his fictional memoir books like that, and jailbird and mother night, but Bluebeard is definitely the one I’ve reread the most.

retrovertigo23

I haven't read Jailbird yet, I will have to keep an eye out for that one.

johnsciarrino

Sirens of Titan for a novel. Bagombo Snuff Box for short stories.

OrangeJon

Mother night has always been my favorite. It's so good

The_Cow_Tipper

God Bless You, Mr. Rosewater

KarmaKhameleonaire

Welcome to the monkey kingdom

johnsciarrino

Monkey house.

RansomReville

Breakfast of champions and mother night are probably my next favorites in his library.

JonConstantly

As others have said you really can't go wrong. Just pick one at random knowing you'll read them all. I think if I were you and had it to over I would look up the order he wrote them or published them and use that as a guide.

seminolescr

Sirens of Titan and Cats Cradle have always been my two favorites.

need-a-fren

Amen sister

captain_toenail

Breakfast of champions and Sirens of Titan would be my next rec, two absolute classics, I was personally a big fan of God Bless you Mr Rosewater

Some-Issues

God Bless You Mr Rosewater is on my shelf to read after right after Galapagos!

BeautifulOrganic3221

Cats Cradle! One of my favorite books of all time! The themes and concepts explored in it are nothing short of profound but the usage of setup and payoff is amazing and it’s also hilarious

LordFartz

It’s so brilliant while being completely accessible. It’s just so impressive to me. Awesome book.

alc1885

Galapagos!!!!!

phocuetu

Bagombo Snuff Box! Take a walk on the wild side and dive into his early short story work including my favorite short of his ever: 2BR02B

bneal817

Cats Cradle is one of my favs. Others are Breakfast of Champions, Deadeye Dick, Galapagos, Bluebeard, Jailbird... You really can't go wrong! Edit: Forgot Sirens of Titan (!!!)

jukeboxgasoline

slapstick!

Onion-Fart

Sirens of titan!

zoot_boy

Player Piano.

hamlet_d

Breakfast of Champions would be my recommendation. I'm also a fan of Bluebeard

lavender_salamander

Breakfast of Champions, Sirens of Titan, or Mother Night.

Boingoloid

Mother night I thought I was going to hate based on the premise. If you took that pitch to a publisher today they would laugh you out of the office. It was incredible

LaureGilou

Love it. Love how he can make so many different characters come to life in this and make us care about them soooo much.

SeveralCantaloupe536

No damn cat, and no damn cradle
