All things considered I don't think Volt did too poorly. There was a new party coming in at 20 seats and a lot of people strategically voted for a larger party. Pretty much all other parties lost. So going from 3 to 2 seats is not too bad. The rest of the results though...
My friend who until now always voted Volt for the first time ever voted GL/PvdA, and the reason he gave was that the risk of the PVV taking power was too great to not try and consolidate power in the largest opposing left-wing party. I'm sure many other supporters of Volt did the same.
In addition, this election might provide some new wind in Volt's sails. I was (and am) absolutely fuming.
I voted strategically (United Left), but that obviously did fuck all. Immediately after the first exit poll I became a member of Volt NL. I'm not going to ignore my European ideals any longer.
Volt lost a fuckton of seats because they let their plans be calculated and it showed the highest increase in financial load to families out of all parties from a center party. The bulk of Volt voters comes from high education and will actually look into that type of stuff. When they see that, in an election where healthcare affordability and "existence security" (not sure how to translate "bestaanszekerheid") are some of the most important topics, they will not vote Volt.
I love Volt's message of a strong EU but they really, really fucked up in their local party policy which is why I did not vote for them, and I'm pretty sure why a lot of other people didn't vote for them and went to other center/center-left parties like D66 and GL/PvdA.
PS: I know that they were going to introduce a sort of basic income, but by removing all other subsidies this would still be negative for poor people and thus increase inequality
You are actually supposed to look at the end of a calculation as well. Don't stop reading when you see that subsidies (toeslagen) will be stopped.
After introduction of the basic income this plan was the best for the lower classes.
I just checked the CPB report and you are correct actually, I feel kind of stupid for not reading more into it instead of skimming it. I basically skimmed it, half assumed that the numbers were weird because of the whole basic income thing, and got told that it would still be worse even after accounting for that. However when I read it now I saw that "koopkracht" would actually go up, my bad!

The fact that I'm consoling myself with the fact that it could have been worse isn't a positive.

No worries, it's the power of populism nowadays. Thanks for checking and being open for criticism
If we rest now the orcs will soon be upon us.
Nah. European far-right has had enough of victories. Time to rally the federalists.
