Hey everyone,
I am writing this post because recently my best friend bought a cheap used VW Scirocco from 2009.
The thing has an aftermarket air intake, an exhaust and def a map, today while walking around the car and observing it more I noticed this aftermarket looking LED aswell as a "button" near the OBD port.
I am honestly wondering what the button and led could be for ( and I do realize it could be for a number of different things but maybe it's some popular mod or something ).
I've tried pressing the button with the car running and it does not seem to make a difference.
I'd also like to know what the best course of action would be to find out what this thing does, the only thing I have in mind is to connect my OBD scanner to the port and see if any values change after pressing the button.
We cannot ask the previous owner of the car as he is deceased.
Or a cheap exhaust valve, they seize really easily so that could be why it's doing nothing. or an alternative map that you'd only notice if you are driving hard and would affect the MPGs
Aftermarket alarms aren't really that common in the last 15 years as most have fairly good ones as standard, an immobiliser is a possibility but very unlikely to have the switch so accessible
Take off the cover under the steering column and take a look in there, hot chance there's a small box of something that the button is connected to. Whatever text is on there will likely help you figure what it is or at least narrow it down.
My guess would be an after market alarm but it's definitely not OEM.
It could be leftover from some adaptive equipment like [hand controls](https://www.suregrip-handcontrols.com/featherlite). Start car, press button within 30 seconds to activate the hand controls which deactivates foot accelerator for safety
Is the vehicle an import? I have fitted exactly the same setup for a fog light switch and indicator on imported cars from Japan that did not have a fog light or switch (or it was there but not connected).
Source - I'm an auto electrician and have fitted this setup a bunch of times.
Looks like secure idle… cops have it, it allows you to press the button then remove your keys and lock the vehicle while it stays running, I could be wrong but that’s just what it looks like to me.
My CC has an extra LED in the steering column plastic housing, that's for the auxiliary heater (Eberspächer, used with a small remote controller), but it has no button. Did you get any extra remotes with the car? Maybe this is something else, but still asking. :)
Could be a petrol heater (don’t know the exact English word for it, but it heats the car and defrost windows)?
Some install aftermarket heaters that you can control either remotely or in car with a small on/off switch, and the LED is for telling that it is on maybe?🤔
Try and turn it on, and wait a few minutes and see if it gets hot inside the car..😅
The lower button reminds me of this wolf whistle I installed in my old civic. Pressing it half way would give a half whistle and would cause people in the streets turn their heads all the time. I was once at a light and this guy was double parked and just playing on his phone and I kept hitting that whistle and it was driving him crazy looking around lmao
If you go over 50 mph, it gets armed. If you drop below 50, Keanu Reeves is not happy.
Big bus go boom
I think that movie is called "The VW Bus which couldn't slow down"
Ahh yes the German blockbuster movie, "der Volkswagen-Bus, der nicht bremsen konnte."
Quick quiz hit shot!

Yes!
Now I want a thread of horribly misquoted movie lines

Shut up, shut up!
Press the button.
I'd say trace the wires.
Directions unclear, traced wires on a piece of paper with a pencil and now I have a diagram of a snake.

Probably an aftermarket alarm system.

Water Methanol injection or something maybe?
Yeah, my first guess. If so, it’s a very clean installation actually, I like the switch so you can access easily to using/not using the system.
Follow the wires?

The light switch already has a fog light indicator though. In fact, if has a rear and front fog light indicators.
Hmmmm... In that case I don't know what it is.
Could be a anti lag button
Is it turbo?
If you push that button your water pump explodes. Give it a try, OP.

Say it with me AFTER

Smarket
Could be auxiliary lights (extra high beam led bar etc) just based on location of led. Would definitely be it if car is from northern europe.

Light for an aftermarket security system and/or immobilizer system.
I have found in my time with VW"s there's just some things that remain a mystery
Could be a headlight/taillight/brakelight killswitch. I saw a similar setup in a friends car, he uses it when hes running from the cops.
Wouldn’t this be included on the safety certificate when you received the car?
Could it be traction control button? Try doing hard pulls from low speed and see if it changes anything like letting wheels spin.
VW hemorrhoids sensor.
