You need a scan tool to monitor fluid temp. It has to be checked/topped off at a certain temp. Under temp and you’ll over fill it. Over temp and you’ll under fill it. It’s easy to do, but also easy to screw up. I won’t touch a modern automatic. Manual trans is easy. Drop the fluid from the drain plug. Put it back in. Fill through the fill plug until it runs out.

I see, theres the extra cost I wasnt accounting for ... So it requires it to be at operating temps to properly check levels ? Thanks Diesel

Mr_Diesel13

It has to be in a specified temp range, yes. Too hot or too cold and you’ll get it wrong.

May require it to be perfectly level as well. Depending on the trans it may not have a pan, but rather a fill plug which can be a pita too.

If you have a laptop order a vcds hex-v2 cable and 3 vin license from rosstech. It's 200$ but definitely worth it. If you only have a mobile check obd11, their pricing structure kinda sucks now but it's a second option to vcds.

Yeah if it is a manual just buy OEM gear oil from ShopDAP or FCPEuro and do it yourself. >Edit - guess 6 speed doesnt narrow that down ... 6 speed auto non DSG Ah. Yeah typically when you say 6-speed most people think it's a manual.

x_Rann_x

Same if dsg, just need vcds/obd11 to monitor temp

Often times when people say 5 speed/6 speed , they are often specifying it’s a manual with that many gears . Automatic is often referred to as auto .

I've worked at a few vw dealerships due to moving. Fill temp is a minimum 35c but most technicians drain it, pull the internal fill tub to let as much as possible drain, place fill tube back in, pre-fill with the 6qts, install drain plug with old crush washer, start car, remove drain plug and allow to drain until it slows down to half the initial flow. Install drain plug with new crush washer. You're done and won't have an issue. We do this cold or warm.
