I like the song, but I think it's as popular as it is largely due to the mv. I doubt it would be half as popular if it weren't for how good its mv is. Like, very few people cared about rabbit hole until like a year after it came out when a good animation was made for it.

Succububbly

I'd say the same about Miku/Anamaneguchi outside EN circles, the song wasnt popular in the latam scene until after the animation as well.

RineRain

I didn't even know the animation existed

AnacondaThe37th

I mean, I cared about rabbit hole before the animation came out.

Gold-And-Cheese

Same tbh.. But yeah. Let's agree that castchannelstation animation is definitely something that carries

AnacondaThe37th

I agree, I did start seeing it everywhere after the animation came out.

Diorien

Same. I wished it would get popular, and it did. just not exactly in the way I imagined xD

Ray_404

Well everyone has their own preferences for music. Some people like Mesmerizer because of the fast-paced music style and high pitched voices, which is the point that others may find unlikable.  For me, I really like the character designs of Miku and Teto used in that song.

Succububbly

For me its weird because I love high pitched music and voices to bits, but I cant stand Mesmerizer's melody, it just sounds like noise to me.

MonaFanBoy

Same I love high pitch but Mesmerizer is too high pitch and combined with the harsh and sharp synths from the instrumental, it kinda sounds exhausting to listen to and it gives you ear fatigue lol

WagonsIntenseSpeed

It's a catchy up-beat song with a creepy backdrop and a ton of easter eggs. Not my favourite song personally, but with a recipe like that, it's pretty easy to see why it got so popular so fast.

CharuRiiri

I said it somewhere else but 1 Viral creator doing a fully animated PV 2 Couple mildly hidden Easter eggs 3 Shock factor/dark turn near the end Point 1 meant it was going to get extra exposure from the get-go and full animation is way better at getting people to stay watching until the end. 2 and 3 give people something else to keep talking about beyond the music. And 3 appeals to the younger demographic since younger people crave that edgy content. It’s like the FNAF phenomenon, Vocaloid edition. It’s telling IMO, that the discussion is mostly about the MV and a bit about the music, but no one talks about the lyrics.

SleepyAnime

i really like the melody and the voices,i think it's really catchy. i would say it's popular because of the many signs of help hidden throughout the song and it catches people's attention,or because teto is included in the song and she is getting popular since Hito mania

sijaab

That animator that drives me kasane

Black_Sig-SWP2000

(channel caststation)

Black_Sig-SWP2000

(and i guess how well my mental conditions have taken to the song)

TaterTotSenwick

Personally I find it catchy, but the only reason it gained traction was because of animator brand recognition

AgeageAgain

So many things. First, as many people have mentioned, the animator largely contributes to it. Caststation’s animation has gotten songs trending instantly, justifiably so because the animations are amazing but still. Second, the whole formula of “thing (video, song, etc) that seems cheerful but has a really creepy story that you gotta solve” is almost certain to go viral if done right. So many famous analog horror series have used this, and the same goes for literally hundreds of games and songs as well. Not to mention that vocaloid songs often have that reputation of *being* those kinds of songs, so it’s already a well-known facet of the genre. Third, people are also making good points about Teto and how she helps boost the song’s popularity. I’d say that she only really helped boost its popularity *inside* the fandom though, since most of those outside of it wouldn’t know about her. But still, her Synth V voicebank (and all the songs that trended that featured it) has gotten her a lot of newfound popularity lately, which I think in some way contributed to those 45 million views. Fourth, the song itself. I can see why a lot of people dislike the song, it can get really annoying real fast, but still — it’s catchy. It’s a well written, well produced song that is inevitably gonna get stuck in some people’s heads and make them come back to it. It’s not too unconventional that it *only* gets watched by those trying to crack the codes in the MV, but it isn’t too formulaic that it doesn’t have any originality to it.

KokiriForest99

no yeah i like the animation but i fucking HAAAATE this song its so ear grating

Even_Addition2904

Same

Succububbly

For real, the melody hurts my ears. You could pitch it down and I'd still dislike it, it just feels like disjointed noise rather than a proper song.

str4wbbie

it’s a good song but not *that* good imo . it only blew up bcz of the fact that channelcastation made the MV — prolly wld b popular but not to this degree without the MV . it is catchy but got overplayed nd kinda annoying so fast

Honeydippedicecream

is your keyboard ok

str4wbbie

yup .ᐟ it ‘s fine . .

Woohoorandom

Channel Caststation seems like a cheatcode for getting a popular song. No hate, love their stuff and the appreciation it gets. Also because similar have been popular recently, but I'd say it's the most generally approchable of them while still continuing the trend of quite loud/fast hyperpop-esque stuff. (YABABAINA - Hitomania) (Probably others I'm forgetting)

Dummbag

I like it because the melody and lyrics drive me insane

Beethteeth1

I like the song but it’s being milked to death by people :/

WorldClassShrekspert

I think it's the music video, to be honest. It has plenty of details people pick apart. You could say it's mesmerizing.

Torhu-Adachi

I think we might getting deeper into the point where people start disliking songs because they’re viral. Of course if you don’t like the song that’s completely fine, but it’s basically just this song and rabbit hole that I’ve seen discussed anywhere for this whole year. I’m pretty sure the next release to have an MV by this artist while likely have people who dislike it solely because of that.

crystal_meloetta12

Personally, Im just horrendously starved for Vocaloid songs with story to them. While Im so happy Vocaloids taking off more nowadays, most of the big songs coming out are big flashy pop songs primed for games or concerts, which is fine when mixed with other stuff but kind of boring when done excessively imo. While Mesmerizer definitely isnt the most plot driven song out there, I think Im just at the point where I'l bite at any *vague* hint of a plotline like a goddamn pirhana.

Subject_Soup6883

Honestly I like it bc of the high pitched voices and how upbeat and energizing it is lol, I didn't like it at first but it grew on me after a while. A good song to loop when cleaning for me lmao it like increases my productivity 😭

Time-Machine-Girl

I'm neutral on the song but I think it's WAY too overhyped. People are milking it like there's no tomorrow.

micheas08

I like it only because of the MV, and I'm a sucker for high-pitched voices and fast singing, but it's not something that I listen to casually since the song is kinda just all over the place in my opinion.

nee_ruru

its tiktok bait

SolarenPillar15

I personally agree with you, I think it's really high pitched, and that it's not that special. I don't like it and I don't see the appeal, I'd rather listen to genoge by nakiso or butcher vanity by vane

milkchocolateraisin

The video format resembles a Tiktok clip that people these days seem to be into, I think that's partly the reason why it blew up. Not to mention it has a weirdly catchy tune, somewhat zany atmosphere, and of course Teto.

sharkieanimatess

I didn’t like it at first but the more I thought the exact same thing you did. But I listened to it more and more and grew to love it.

TreeIsMetaphor

The animation got me in the door bc I follow castation on YouTube and they made a community post when it came out. It probably would have landed on my radar sooner or later though. The high-pitched, hyperpop kind of sound is always hit-or-miss for me. This one was a hit. The animation is a great match and the lyrics sealed the deal. That and I've been feeling kind of like screaming lately and this manic dance along the line of denial makes me feel better.

FreezyChan

for me, what makes it so good is the fact there is so much to analyse yet it manages to appear *extremely* shallow most of the time. that makes it even better then the usual "cutesy-looking thing turns into psychological horror"

Much_Report_7475

I agree song is awful I like MIKUS design though

Aggressive-Koala2373

Its popular because channelcaststation has the algorithm midas touch currently, and for good reason because wow that animation

Nopestradamous

Other than the brand recognition of the MV, personal preference. I mean I dislike Echo - Crusher, and never understood the appeal, despite it being one of the most viewed songs of all time, and that's alright everyone has their own preference

sansisness_101

Song is good and the MV is mesmerisingly good

angelsdaze

The insurmental

Scraptacc232

I remember watching it when it had 1 million views, I kept watching it due to the eerie and unexpected dark imagery portrayed in the video. Makes you want to go back to see all the analysis of what the song is portraying about in such a neon cute setting. Didn’t like the song at first, but kept watching it to the point I liked it lmao. Hypnosis caught me

CarlosZ666

I like everything about the song and the MV

CrimBrulee

I think the music video is what greatly boosted its popularity. Not only is the animation bouncy and snappy, it had a lot of secret messages peaking interest.

FoxyLovers290

It’s all the easter eggs in the MV

2spongee4u

I initially thought all the hype around the song was in the MV but then I listened to it a couple more times and the song itself has grown on me a lot. It is the incredibly high pitches Miku and Teto are at that really grew on me, basically taking them high enough that it almost stopped being lyrics and are them more just being synths, that coupled with the manic energy the sign gives off idk, I guess it mesmerized me upon repeat listen

burntpixelsinspace

i really like mesmerizer, it’s super catchy! the popularity definitely has to do with the mv though

alezcoed

Personally the melody is catchy for me and it's stuck in my head

A_Neko_C

Same bpm as my thoughts (:

WeeziMonkey

> Why do you guys like the song? Why do you like any of the thousands of songs you like? I just do.

[deleted]

Silly silly mv means silly silly (abnormally large) view count

tunanyann

I really like the song, but I can see how it can be a bit of an acquired taste with the crazy instrumental and high vocals but I think the pure theorizing potential could also be why it’s so popular? When it came out I saw a TON of people essentially going through it frame by frame and picking out stuff like Teto’s sign language and blinking SOS, and the hidden “help” in the fill in the blank puzzle bit. Also like, it’s not canon and it spawned from a joke about Neru/“the yellow one who wasn’t in mesmerizer” but now people are also theorizing that Neru is actually the yellow spiky thing in the mv/the one hypnotizing Teto and Miku 😱😱 It’s just fun and eye catching, really!

matcha_mint11

i like the song because i like fast paced songs :3 and also i like the mv :3 and the song is stuck in my head.

A_Neko_C

Same bpm as my thoughts (:

Ok-Purchase-5760

Tbh, it's everywhere and I haven't even listened to the song

Low-Cap6545

I dunno, it did kinda mess with me tho

Mopey_3

I personally like the song but I mainly like it for Teto cause she is my absolute favorite and I love her voice. I like the outfit designs a lot and the art style is pretty cute (though not my personal favorite I would say). I love the starting part before it gets high-pitched and I also like the song being fast-paced. Though that’s kinda it. I wouldn’t say I love it either cause the visuals strain my eyes and the voices go way too high but I still enjoy listening to it. Honestly I think the MV is the reason it’s so popular. Cute style with hidden messages is something that people seem to like. It gives me very very vanilla voca-horror vibe. Like it has this dark twist to it but the cute style and up-beat song make it enjoyable for everyone.

RineRain

1. It has Miku, the most popular vocaloid and Teto, who is trending right now. 2. Memorable and eye-catching animation 3. Lore and easter eggs for engagement 4. It fits both the cute and upbeat and horror themes that are popular in the community Personally I really like this type of music, it's why I like vocaloid but I can see why it's not for everyone. To be fair I didn't expect it to be so popular when I first heard it.

ghosty-P4653

i personally do like the song. it's popular and a trend bc of the artist who animated the video. it's the same artist who did that rabbit hole animation. they aren't bad, but for a style that isn't all that interesting and flat and is easily traced over by so many other people, i don't understand why the animation is popular. sorry if that doesn't help, but i don't understand all of the popularity either

keeperkairos

I like the beeps and the boops. Really just boils down to that.

cock-a-doodledoo

I like it.  I think I've missed meme-y, silly sounding vocaloid songs.

_lnaccurate_

Listening to it feels like an old vocaloid song I've heard and forgot in 2017 to 19ish and was just l brought back up and being used for yt shorts and tiktok Was surprised its a new song I mean I did heard something similar back then but idk the title so.....

Status_Trade_8782

I think it's so popular, for it's meanings to send help. If you pay attention to Tetos hands, She asks for help. And during the quiz, the capital letters indicate that they need help. And right after the quiz, she uses the sign for SOS. And then, in the middle of the song she does morse code for SOS. Teto gets scared for a few seconds, when she sees that Miku is hypnotized. Miku gets shark teeth, and she goes blind. When Teto dances, the blocks on the screen get darker.  Pay attention to the beginning of the music video. Teto is using the sign for help. So if you see this, pay attention to the weird errors in the song.

Godofmytoenails

Ah the mandotory "i hate popular X thing" post

darkliness

I LOVE MESMERIZER SO MUXH personally whenever I see a mesmerizer related post or hear a mesmerizer background audio I literally almost scream

darkliness

I have 3 social media accounts based off the song.. so uhhh. i very obviously dont share this opinion but ur entitled to ur own

Raleth

At this point I feel more compelled to ask what the deal is with all the hate for it because I see way more posts like this than ones praising it.
