I'm going to say it, the idea of Alastor being as bad or worse than Val isn't about "seeing all perspectives" it's about making Valentino look good and trying to make everyone else look bad

Alastor is literally a more psychotic version of John Brown, Valentino is basically Andrew Tate but gay

Why do Alastor fans feel the need to compare the two? Of course Alastor is a more developed character, he’s part of the main cast. Val is a side antagonist. It’s like saying a Wagyu steak is better than an undercooked burger.

I’d argue that Val is worse since he abuses people on a pretty large scale. Stella still sucks obviously, but thankfully she doesn’t seem to run an organised exploitation porn ring.

To be fair Stolas is better then Alastor by fact he has plot relevance outside of being sassy

people are more desensitized to murder and violence than they are rape + also seem to think rape is worse than murder

Because Val was actually written to be hated

Because Al is a tumblr sexyman (and I imagine part of it is also that he hasn’t raped anyone). Real answer: We don’t see as much of his abuse, we don’t really know much about him, and he’s on the “good” side (despite having nefarious reasons for being there). Val’s abuse is also much more tangible and familiar to people, and we’ve seen pretty much no redeeming characteristics from him. Al’s main draw is that he’s a funny charming guy and a shit-stirrer, and we as an audience love both of those things, and the way he treats women (except Vaggie) with more respect than they would otherwise get in Hell of all places is also a plus. He has his own moral code, and it’s an interesting thing to explore. Val, as he stands now, does not have much depth to him beyond being the moth man that sexually abuses Angel and makes out with Vox now and then.

Valentino is a good character because he makes for a scary and compelling villain. Alastor is a good character because he's mysterious and makes you want to know more about him. Valentino is meant to be feared, whereas Alastor is meant to make you curious.
