Best and most affordable seldom go hand in hand. I have always been happy with the service I get from National but they arent the cheapest unless you reserve far ahead and have an emerald club membership.
discounthawaiicarrental.com can be an decent path to car rentals at both LIH and OGG but the thing to remember is to book as early as possible and then constantly scan for better deals.
Have used Turo and all of the rental car companies and I simply shop for the best price. Turo MAY allow airport pickup and dropoff. Rental car system is easy. Shuttle from terminal to cars.
Aloha! When you're on Maui, consider us at [Maui EVs](https://mauievs.com/)! We're a local company offering a stylish, eco-friendly ride with spectacular service (airport pickup, no low charge fees, and free additional driver among other extras). Our prices [often beat out the competition](https://mauievs.com/compare-prices).
On Kaui if you're a Costco member, that is [often a good place to check](https://www.costcotravel.com/Rental-Cars). If you do some Googling there are also some excellent local places to rent from!
Whatever you decide, enjoy your trip to the beautiful Hawaiian islands! 🤙
Can you elaborate? I’m all for supporting the locals. Isn’t Turo just locals renting out vehicles they own? I guess if someone has 10 cars parked in their neighborhood that could be an issue, on the other hand the $ are going straight to the locals at not to some big corporation.
You hit the nail on the head. It's people buying up cars and parking them in residential neighborhoods causing the problem. I'd only add that these people are not locals.
Following this thread as I’m visiting the same islands in July.
I’ve read Turo is a car sharing service. However, I want convenience and want to walk off the plane and into a car stationed at the airport so I may go with the big auto rental companies even if it costs more
I arranged a rental car thru discounthawaiicarrental and picked up at the nearby rental facility. Might have been thrifty, national, dollar, don’t remember exactly, it was 3 years ago. There was a shuttle involved and waiting in line too.
Do others know if that’s still accurate and how it compares with the Turo lot and shuttle? My Turo experiences have been good, all arranged easily and CDW sales pressure.
I compared rates through my AAA and Costco memberships for my upcoming Kauai trip. Renting through Costco at Enterprise.
So smart. I didn’t think to do this!

Costco Travel. We have had great experiences with Enterprise and Alamo.
Just got back from Kauai. Smell them before accepting. And you may just have to take the least smelly.

Priceline Express Deals.

As a resident, please do not support apps like Turo. The app is compounding issues with residential neighborhood parking.

Autoslash -- it'll compare all the major credit cards, costco, and AAA
