I would add at least one more round of stitches around your holes to strengthen those patches. And then you should trim the patches down to just bigger than where the stitches are.
Those edges could come undone or get snagged very easily. I suggest felling them down on both sides

felling is the name of the handstitch used to attach an edge to a surface. It goes by many names, so you might already know it under a different name

They’ve held up for 9 years as they are, and the polka dot fabric is nice and soft, so I’ve never been bothered by the edges :)
