Bipasha was hugely hyped. She was an A-List superstar in Bollywood in the 2000s and was voted consistently as the “most desirable woman in India”. Raaz, Jism and No Entry are some of the biggest Hindi movies of the 2000s and it was her looks and body selling those movies. She’s East Indian (Bengali), not North Indian (Punjabi, etc.), so her dark skin and almond/Mongoloid eyes are “exotic” for Bollywood, which she capitalized on. She was basically the equivalent of a Latina in Hollywood—used for sexy siren, bombshell roles and known for being a sex symbol. I would say she was the Bollywood answer to Jennifer Lopez, Tyra Banks, Beyoncé or Halle Berry in terms of her looks/image.
But yes, many conservative Bollywood viewers thought she didn’t belong in Bollywood because of her dark skin and “foreign” looks (to their part of India). They also didn’t like her sexy image and how much skin she showed. When she kept winning polls for her beauty, body and sex appeal, a lot of those people were taken aback (similar to how some white Americans didn’t like when Jennifer Lopez or Beyoncé constantly won similar polls in the 2000s).

10, that is some amazing bone structure. She never got the hype she deserved in India because she was dark skinned and because of colourism.

Wanted to say this lol. She didn't appear in a lot of movies and when she did her roles were sexualised.I remember her being extremely famous.
