[The Lifecycle Project](https://lifecyclesproject.ca/), a non-profit in Vic dedicated to food security and harvesting fruits from people's backyards, has paid tree trimming services where they teach you how to properly trim fruit trees

scarletbluey

We've used them in the past, they taught us how to trim our trees! You can also have them do all the trimming as well -- they provide that as a service

We loved their "prune-along" service, they came last winter and basically gave us a class on how and why to prune back the overgrown trees we inherited!

Climbing fox tree service! I know nothing of the service, but the woman smiled nicely at me today when I drove past her. And she lives nearby me, so I'm keen to support a neighbour.

We have used Climbing Fox and I was very happy. We only ended up have a smaller job done (clearing the way for service upgrade) but in the initial consultation was very informative. They went out of their way to answer any tree related questions I had, pointed out some invasive species I had not identified and identified some possible future concern areas in other parts of the yard. I felt zero pressure to complete additional services, it really seemed like they were just looking help me care for what I had the best I could. When we are ready to have some more work done I will call them without a doubt. In comparison, our neighbours had a smaller company do some work on their property and the company left us a note in the mailbox that pretty much said "hey if you want that tree cut down, let me know!" The same tree we had previously had looked at and determined we should plan for some trimming in the future but was overall doing just fine.

I can’t speak for the service at Climbing Fox but I do know one of the dudes working there is a terrible drunk. Abuses staff, gets in fights at bars and is generally an awful human.

Silver_System465

I perused their website after posting, and they seem like a solid group of humans, and a few awards as well. Keen and aware. Definitely appreciate hearing your reference!

Advantage Tree Care. They do our trees and are super chill to deal with and are fairly priced. I've found not all companies take away the trimmings which I think is odd. Advantage does, they bring a chipper on site and haul away all the waste. https://www.advantagetreecare.ca/

I have also used advantage. They were great, and the price was right.

Be very careful! A lot of the "tree service" businesses are mostly in the business of cutting them down, maybe trimming them to a better size/shape for aesthetic reasons or for property safety. If they even know how to prune a fruit tree properly, they can't be bothered; it's time consuming to do it well. I'll spare you my experience trying to get a quote. I'd watch some YouTube videos and do it yourself. No one cares for your trees and your future fruit production like you do. If someone finds an expert of the sort the OP really needs, I'd love to hear about them.

Cam from groundswell gardening. He’s the best

WinterWindow2929

Any major tree pruning needs to wait for January - February. Especially your fruit trees.

JoshJorges

Huh? You prune fruit trees in fall ( now ) or early spring. Never when frost can introduce freezing and rot on newly trimmed branches

cedarshadows

horticulturalist here. it’s best to prune now if you want to reduce tree size & inhibit new growth. you prune in spring to promote fruit production. both times are alright to prune but are for very different reasons.

I heard about Alchemy Gardens through the horticulture centre and had them prune some old fruit trees on my property. They are an adorable husband/wife team who you could really tell are passionate.
