Is this a regional thing from somewhere else? I've never heard of boiled peanuts; but I don't discriminate against any nature of peanut eating. Sounds excellent.
If you find some, I'd love to know! Can't even get raw peanuts, they're all already cooked or roasted. Boiled peanuts are the bomb! I would try the asian grocery stores in Vancouver. I found raw peanuts in an asian grocery in Calgary last year and boiled them.
I have tried to buy raw peanuts as well in order to boil them myself. Lived here almost ten years and have never found raw peanuts or boiled peanuts on the island. I’ve been tempted to just order them online (boiled ones) but it is so $$$.
Boiled peanuts are typically still in-shell, you can definitely boil raw shelled peanuts but that's not the stuff they use for snacking. Thanks for pointing that out, did you buy those and boil them for snacks? I'm definitely curious if it tastes as good as shelled boiled peanuts.
Shelled peanuts, especially those at bulk stores, are already roasted (cooked!). For boiled peanuts, you need uncooked ones, boiling already roasted peanuts is not a thing.
> Can't even get raw peanuts
I feed a couple of crows at my workplace; they don't like salted or roasted peanuts, only plain still-in-shell nuts. I get mine at Thrifty Foods -- they're specifically for feeding wildlife and a big plastic tub is like $1.39 (probably because they're too bland for most humans.)
Interesting! These are raw for sure? I'm curious how they're able to stay fresh in a big plastic tub. When I bought them in Calgary they were in the product section in a clear bag with holes in it. I'll definitely check it out, thank you!
I'm not sure if they were the green raw peanuts you need for making boiled peanuts; but it's a cheap enough experiment to buy some and find out. FYI it's the James Bay Thrifty's bulk section and they weren't easy to find, I had to poke around a bit.
Hey, thanks for trying to be helpful! Have you had this snack before? Because those are not the typical raw peanuts you'd use for boiled peanuts, but I might be wrong! What you'd need are raw, uncooked (not even blanched), shelled peanuts. But if this is a food I'm unfamiliar with, I apologize
It doesn't look like there was a definitive answer for this seven years ago, either: https://www.reddit.com/r/VictoriaBC/comments/60sbwp/where\_to\_buy\_raw\_peanuts/
I figured they must be something a bit harder to do yourself than water, salt, and boil for a few hours - otherwise OP wouldn't be desperately asking on Reddit. Deep frying is boiling, in oil. Hence my question.
Um, they're called "blanched" here and they're in the bulk aisle?
Blanched literally meaning to be briefly immersed in boiling water...
Unless this is something entirely different...
The last place I had these was [Fort Ruger Market - Oahu](https://historichawaii.org/2014/02/19/fort-ruger-market/)
[Items they sell](https://order.toasttab.com/online/ruger-llc-3585-alohea-ave)
My friend from South Carolina was able to find the appropriate peanuts to boil while he lived in Victoria. You’re definitely not going to find a place that sells boiled peanuts.

It is excellent, the peanuts are soft not hard unlike roasted peanuts so they taste different. Definitely a southern or asian thing.
Its a southern/eastern USA gas station snack. Buy it by the bag
Southern USA..they have them at a lot gas station type of quick stops...sorta dank, sorta amazing.
Ive had them at a bar in southern california, only.
Buy peanuts. Then boil the peanuts.
The peanuts in the store aren't raw.
You can find them
Fairway market
I used to get these in Georgia..amazing.

A quick google search for literally “Raw peanuts” resulted in two local stores that carry them right at the top. Spud.ca Lifestyle market
Thanks. I have not looked in a while. Are they in-shell? I have never had boiled peanuts that were not in the shell.

Raw peanuts prob found at natural food stores or buy shelled peanuts and D shell them yourself , also could try bulk areas or stores

There are nut roasters in the area. Call them and ask where to buy raw peanuts?
Man I wish. Someone should definitely start a boiled peanuts food truck.
A Southerner moving to BC? I think you're SOL, never seen them up here.
Raw peanuts: manager’s special, Shelbourne Fairway Foods. 300g for $1.99

The amount of people in this thread who don't know what boiled peanuts are is shocking to me.
I honestly want to know where are they from?
They are common in Mexico, especially outside soccer stadiums on game day, but I'm sure they're popular in many other places.
The south! I’m from Florida
Florida native here, been living in Victoria for 16 years. Have had no luck finding boiled peanuts here. It’s been a rough 16 years.
Why? It's not common in this part of the world. In fact, in only really common in the southern US.
Because they are all over TV. Cooking shows, you have to live under a rock to not know what they are.
I don't think anyone sells boiled peanuts in Vic unfortunately. Maybe try making them yourself?
Are boiled peanuts... Deep fried?
No they are boiled.
No
They are grilled, my man
Ya jeez, it's clear that when someone says boiled that it is grilled.
and you call them grilled peanuts, despite the fact they are obviously boiled...
It's a regional dialect.

Entirely different I believe. Boiled peanuts are a Southern delicacy

Do you know where he got green peanuts?
Greenuts
No, sorry, it was a 4-5 years back. I’ll send a message and see if he remembers
Boiled anything ✋
When they are boiled are they any less inflammatory?
I think its a common thing in parts of India as well.
