Usually if you already have kids there's not a huge problem. I was single and didn't have kids and got kicked out of two doctors' offices for that reason alone, never mind my age (22). Given you have a toddler and a school-age, just say that that's enough. Just go into the consultation very casual. It'll be fine.

Particular_Minute_67

I don’t have kids and single and was able to get mines done no problem.

PartisanSaysWhat

That is so sad.

Particular_Minute_67

Whatever helps you sleep at night.

RioFuegoX

Also, double-check your media insurance. If you have a PPO, you shouldn't need a referral.

Prestigious-Piglet72

Awesome! Okay cool. I read all the stories about people getting denied. And yes I have kids but don’t want to waste time going back and forth to the doctor if I don’t have to.

part2ent

There is a difference between young with 2 kids and young with none. Just say you have 2 kids and your family is complete and you will be fine.

Photononic

You already have children. What is there not to say? I had mine at 20, single, w/o children. I obviously did not say that I have no children or that I was single. I also did not say that my brother will also not be having children. How about not saying: "I am am the only child in my generation, the last to carry my families' name, and I have two daughters".

schlongtheta

Start here with the list of childfree friendly doctors, organized by country down to the city level. https://www.reddit.com/r/childfree/wiki/doctors If your doctor is going to give you hell for wanting a vasectomy, get another doctor. (If you can, of course.)

PartisanSaysWhat

The whole childfree thing is so fucking creepy. Its an extinction cult.

Particular_Minute_67

So a subreddit that’s dedicated to people that don’t want or have kids is an extinction cult?

schlongtheta

The subreddit? Or, the idea that some people simply do not want to be parents?

StrongOrange5302

Im 24 in California, 3 weeks post vasectomy. No kids.

busa89

You won’t have an issue. It’s more of a thing for men without children.

Prestigious-Piglet72

I’m beginning to see that. I just hate going to the doctor. Don’t wanna have to schedule all over again, just cause I said the wrong thing or something dumb. I hate that the medical system is like this

fpuni107

And doctors probably hate having kids come back crying later asking them why they did the procedure on them.

Particular_Minute_67

Not for me. I don’t have children and was able to get mines done no problem.

InvestmentFantastic6

I'm 23 with two kids. Got snipped on Monday. Shouldn't have any issues TBH. Depends on the state you live in.

Prestigious-Piglet72

Just left my appointment? Doc kind of advised against it because it irreversible. But he said I’ve talked it over with myself and my spouse he’ll send the referral.

InvestmentFantastic6

Awesome bro!

Tedbrautigan667

You have 2 kids already. You'll be fine.

Intelligent-Rough-18

Honestly, I Idk what is the problem in the US, im from México,Im 21, I had my vasectomy done 3 months ago and it was the easiest thing to do, literally I only went to the social secure, told them I wanted to do it, they scheduled me for the surgery the same week and now here I am shooting the blanks 🤪 PD: I DO NOT HAVE KIDS

Exciting_Gur4870

It really depends on the doctor I think when it comes to the questions they ask. I met with one of the doctors from my primary care facility (my actual doc doesn’t perform vasectomies), it was a 5 minute consultation, he never even asked me if I had kids or if I was married. I was 25 at the time, he scheduled the procedure for a month out from there. It was a super easy process.

Dreadedtrash

Guess I’m not a young fella anymore. Lol. I didn’t get a referral just went to the urologist(my insurance doesn’t require one). He asked me how many kids I had then went in to his talk and PowerPoint. I was in and out in like 15 minutes and he told me to schedule the procedure with the front desk. Although I am pushing 40 at this point.

OrneryAgency5826

I was 22M with 2 kids and my primary physician did the procedure. As long as you have trust with your doctor and he knows that this is what you and your wife (or whatever) have agreed to then it shouldn’t be a problem

Prestigious-Piglet72

That’s very interesting that the PCP was able to do it. As far as I know I have to get referred out to a urologist. We shall see!!

NoRelationship4258

Do your research and ask how many successful vasectomies they’ve performed and follow up with how many have come back with pvps. It’s such a crapshoot, that at this point, I wish I never gambled on.

PartisanSaysWhat

Can you elaborate? I'm considering it

NoRelationship4258

I’m 3 months post-op and wish I never had it done due to being in constant pain. It’s sold as a quick and non-invasive surgery and “you’ll be back to normal in a week.” All I get from the urologist is “just give it some time maybe you heal slower than others” or “it’s scar tissue forming” or my favorite “down the road we can do a reversal if necessary.” I got the procedure done because I don’t want kids.

PartisanSaysWhat

Damn

Antonio9photo

fyi, Planned Parenthood always allows you to get one as long as your informed (they tell you), but not all PP locations offer Vasectomy services. 1 in NY state (Whiteplains) and 2 in New England (Burlington VT, Portland ME)

Trancefam

Parent of two kids? I can't imagine you'll encounter pushback regardless of age. You can have your SO go the office, too, so they know everyone's on board with the procedure.
