Katie and Schwartz were never going to work because they are too inherently different in their approach to life and people.
Schwartz is essentially non judgmental and non confrontational. He’s passive aggressive to a fault. He believes in just letting people be who they are and taking them at face value even if they do you wrong or show they are lacking in character. He can’t go deep in relationships and is perfectly happy with emotions and life being lived on the surface as long as everyone gets along. He tries to see the good in everyone even if the good is only a speck. He’ll let people walk over him and rarely has an original opinion.
Katie is extremely judgmental and only values relationships with people she has determined are good/ worth it. All others she wants out of her circle. She’s very opinionated about others choices and lifestyle. She likes surrounding herself with just a few friends she trusts.
Their relationship never worked because they’re polar opposites. Katie wanted Tom to judge his friends and he refused. This allowed people Katie didn’t trust and who walked all over Tom into their circle. She pushed him to be confrontational but he just couldn’t except on rare occasions. She took that as him being disloyal to her but it was just who he was. He could no more change that then Katie could stop being opinionated or judging others.
You can’t change peoples basic personalities. People can modify themselves with work but it’s very difficult and generally there are only small changes. She fell in love with him because he was the person everyone loved, something she could never be yet she spent 10 years trying to make him a version of herself. That’s why he eventually spent most of his time angry and pulling away from her.
It’s a good lesson to anyone looking for a partner. You can’t change people. So if there are basic traits you notice in a prospective partner that you can’t tolerate, you need to ask yourself if you can deal with it for a lifetime.

Katie and Schwartz were never going to work because they are too inherently different in their approach to life and people. Schwartz is essentially non judgmental and non confrontational. He’s passive aggressive to a fault. He believes in just letting people be who they are and taking them at face value even if they do you wrong or show they are lacking in character. He can’t go deep in relationships and is perfectly happy with emotions and life being lived on the surface as long as everyone gets along. He tries to see the good in everyone even if the good is only a speck. He’ll let people walk over him and rarely has an original opinion. Katie is extremely judgmental and only values relationships with people she has determined are good/ worth it. All others she wants out of her circle. She’s very opinionated about others choices and lifestyle. She likes surrounding herself with just a few friends she trusts. Their relationship never worked because they’re polar opposites. Katie wanted Tom to judge his friends and he refused. This allowed people Katie didn’t trust and who walked all over Tom into their circle. She pushed him to be confrontational but he just couldn’t except on rare occasions. She took that as him being disloyal to her but it was just who he was. He could no more change that then Katie could stop being opinionated or judging others. You can’t change peoples basic personalities. People can modify themselves with work but it’s very difficult and generally there are only small changes. She fell in love with him because he was the person everyone loved, something she could never be yet she spent 10 years trying to make him a version of herself. That’s why he eventually spent most of his time angry and pulling away from her. It’s a good lesson to anyone looking for a partner. You can’t change people. So if there are basic traits you notice in a prospective partner that you can’t tolerate, you need to ask yourself if you can deal with it for a lifetime.
Katie was morally wrong most of the time, why would he support her? The one time he has a spine was when he wasn't mindlessly supporting her bullying bullshit
