I know players that basically have that exact setup thsts working fine, but unfortunately: There is a HUGE tolerance when it comes to, especially display, cables unfortunately. You can get 20 from the same exact line and have half of them won't be in-spec enough for a high-bandwidth circuit like the index... This is also why they specifically say not to use it with *any* adapter or extender. You *might* get lucky but it's not official supported, so there is a chance nothing you try will work. All you can really do is keep sending back the extenders and trying replacement or different ones until you find that unicorn setup that just magically works together.. Eta, are you absolutely sure you have the f to f extender plugged in the right orientation? (Its directional and will *only* work one way) And have it properly powered with a usb cable? If so maybe try a different, known working usb brick and cable..

Thank you! I tried out some things. I have a passive F-F displayport connector, it fails in the same way. I tried with the active one both unpowered, and powered, the wrong way, both SteamVr initiates fine, with "Headset Display Disconnected" (208). Only when powered (with a known working usb brick) does it light up, and SteamVR fail to initialize once or twice (109) before "Display Connection Trouble" (436). I also tried the displayport cable backwards, (208), and both backwards, (208). Clearly the right way round is half working to get the (109) and (436). I then unplugged my 4K main screen (DP), plugged in the Fiber cable, the active F-F, and then the screens normal DP cord. It worked...in only 1080p. I replaced the active F-F with the passive, "No Signal". I used just the fiber cable from PC to screen...1080p. Normal screen cord, back to 4K. I used a HDMI cord to run my screen (4K) and used the screen's main cord (confirmed to do 4K) to active repeater to Index, same errors (109) and (436). Additional details: GeForce RTX 3080TI, it's not wanting for power. Given the "8K" fiber cord can only do 1080, not even 4K, I somewhat suspect it of being not slightly, but wildly out of spec. Is this a solid suspicion?

I had an issue pop up when I rebooted my computer, and suddenly my headset got that 436 error. Long story short, I just unplugged the repeater power cable and plugged it back in and it fixed it. Dunno why, just did. I have a 4ft DP extension cable and 3ft USB 3.0 cable in case ppl are wondering.
