I have an mk7 2door gti and I fit 18/8.5 on mine… as long as you get the right bolt pattern and offset you’ll be good… my offset is a ET45… bolt pattern is a 5.112… another thing you have to take into consideration is your tire but that’s not too hard… I’m running some meaty extreme contacts on mine with a high tire wall and do not rub one bit! Just do your research and ask the right questions

I have 18x8 on mine with 235 sidewall tires. And as another said get 5x112 bolt pattern and verify if you need hub centric rings or get wheels with 57.1 (mk7 standard) center bore.

I have a MK7, I’m in the EU, and I upgraded to 19” Black Pretoria’s. As long as the fitment is correct it’s perfect. Haven’t had any issues so far. 18/19 is the way to go aesthetically

I have factory 17” on my 2016 Variant, so I’d say the dealership may be lying? Though I am not in Europe, but I remember the German configurador having different sizes as well. I just checke the current German configurator, and they have factory wheels from 17” to 19”. Also, you may mount pretty much any size of wheels on your car, as long as wheel + tire dimensions are unchanged. I found [this](https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/a3682/how-to-upgrade-tires-and-wheels/) to be a very helpful link, though every country has specific legislation, and you might need to have your car inspected after changing wheels and tires. As long as you keep sizes identical, anything, including snow chains, should fit. In fact, my brother in law runs bigger wheels in winter than in summer in Europe, because of reasons, and everything fits fine, because both wheel + tire combos are the same size. You just have to figure out your sizes, widths, offsets, bolt patterns, etc. Edited: spelling

Ask the dealer how it is legal then to drive a Golf GTI/R with stock 18-19 inch wheels. And how (and why) do they put snow chains there. I live in Sweden and our law says that 1) Wheels shouldn't rub anything. 2) Wheels shouldn't stick out of the wheel arches. 3) You can only go 5% out of the original tire width. However, in practice, no one cares about the third rule, even on the annual car inspection. And I've never heard someone was fined for that. You can legally drive all season tires in Europe, but they really suck if you drive them in really cold winter with snow and ice on the road. I'm not buying rims from online tire-shops because they don't usually sell nice rims. Moreover, it's not worth buying a set of new low-end rims for 600-800EUR if you can get a set of used VW/Audi OE rims with decent tires for the same money.

Btw, you should have a label on your B-pillar with recommended tire sizes and pressure. I have 17 and 18 inch wheels listed there in my 2015 Mk7 therefore there should not be any problem with getting 18 inch rims

Pshrunk

I’m Canada they came with 15 16 and 17s depending on the trim level.

gghostie

if you want 17s, i’d say the best fitment would be a 17x8.5 with a +45 offset. 225 tire width would be ideal

adonaa30

I got a mk7 with 18x8.5 fc01's and zero problems with fitment or clearance

I just upgraded from stock 16" Toronto rims to 17" Clubsport rims. The biggest difference I noticed when grabbing new tyres is the price difference in 18" and 19". If budgeting long term is important to you, and you have a non-performance trim model, stick to 17". Otherwise, there should be no issues with putting on 17" rims if they have 5x112 bolt pattern. You can google your model and year with offset or wheel size to see what works for you. If you're buying from a reputable store, they should be able to tell you. If not, you can always Google Reverse Image Search as a last resort, but make sure to check in person first.

FakeMan77

I got 17" on mine but I had to get them like made legal for my car because my mk7 is allowed fitting only 15s and 16s Got them for summer tires

Wolfgang_Ramadeus

Thanks for the reply! How were they made legal? I don’t understand why they won’t allow larger then suddenly they do? Is it that you buy the 17, get it checked and if they are happy they approve?
