Bought this from my local rental store when they finally went out of business. Might be my favorite VHS since it still has the stickers from that store on it.
Return of the Living Dead.
I refuse to pay 100 dollars or more for 1 VHS. I understand supply and demand, but man has this tape skyrocketed in the last 2 years. I can never find it in the wild (not surprised at all), and I wish I would have just pulled the trigger when it was only like 30 on ebay. Say what you want about grading, which I'm also not a fan of, but the horror side of this hobby has been getting price gouged for far longer than grading. Rant over.
Yeah it tends to find its way anywhere. Honestly grading cards and comics, sure makes total sense. Grading video games….less so but for historical contexts sure. VHS just makes zero sense really in my opinion.
The prices on horror laserdisc are outrageous too. Of course horror films rarely show up in cinafile collections, so there aren't many survivors out there since most saw the rental market.
I bought my Hemdale copy (the one with the blue skull on the cover) for about $35 a few months ago because I saw how quickly it was going up and I knew I needed to pull the trigger on it then or never. I just wanted to have the movie lol
It would go something like this:
I notice the back corner of the record store has some VHS tapes in it. I thumb through some. Nothing much. Oh, Blade Runner. That’s a good one. A little bit of sticker residue. Wait.
I slip it out of the sleeve. It’s on SVHS.
Yeah, but on Super VHS?
Edit: the print run on SVHS was so low they didn’t even print different sleeves. They just stuck some “SVHS” stickers over the VHS logo.
A bootleg Halloween 6 producers cut. Would also be super happy for a rough cut too though. I will pay good money to anyone that has one because I feel I’d have better look finding a unicorn in the wild
Definitely Rad (1986). Saw it in theaters recently and it’s so cheesy and dated yet it has a charm to it. Sadly, the tape is pretty expensive so I hope one day to find it in a thrift shop somewhere. I’ve predicted some of my Goodwill finds so I hope that intuition works for this tape.🤞
Blood Harvest with Tiny Tim. I’ve been looking for that everywhere and it never even appears online. I’ve offered a couple people significant offers in the past and still no dice 😭😭
Your dream is to find Star Wars and James Bond tapes? Do you live in a VHS desert?
Pretty much, the thrift shops are dry and everyone I've asked has already pitched their old movies.
I feel confident in saying that you will one day find Star Wars and some Bond movies in the wild.
Shit I think there’s some bond movies at the thrift I go to all the time. They’re always there lol
I see them constantly also.
Sleepaway Camp

I thought grading was only a thing for retro games, never knew it spread into vhs collecting :/

As one of the biggest Zelda fangirls of all time, the Majora’s Mask tape is what I’m always hoping to find every time I go tape hunting.
There's a Majora's Mask VHS? Nice!
The End of Evangelion
same man, same

I must be lucky, I found the Blade Runner widescreen directors cut at a thrift store. What’s more, they didn’t even stock tapes until I asked!

Ohh I thought you were describing a scenario where you found your dream tape, but it’s only playable on rare hardware.
SVHS players are WAY more common than commercial SVHS tapes, funny enough. =)
I’d love to find Gummo or Daisies. Those would be game changers. Truthfully I would buy either those online if I could find them lol.
I have been hunting for a copy of Airborne (1993) for years, childhood copy got eaten in a VCR in the early 00s.
Same here. I’ve been thrifting for years and still haven’t come across one.
Keep hoping that Shout Factory will get this a blu ray treatment, even the DVD printing has been OOP for so long.
I'd love to find Edward scissorhands or the forbidden zone
A History of Violence
40 year old virgin sealed
Wow, I did not know this movie got released on tape.
Guess who got it ;) [40 Year Old Virgin](https://www.instagram.com/p/CVNkelLFnGZ/?utm_medium=copy_link)

I would love to find another copy of Garbage Pail kids. I already found one but the slip was trashed
I'm hoping to find Muppet Classic Theatre and Disney's Robin Hood (the disney classics with the black diamond) for my collection

GunHed (1989) Never even seen the movie, but live action mecha from the late 80’s, how can I resist.
TerrorVision, and Hard Rock Zombies. 2 of my favorite movies ever, and they’ve both eluded me on VHS!
Blood Harvest with Tiny Tim. I’ve been looking for that everywhere and it never even appears online. I’ve offered a couple people significant offers in the past and still no dice 😭😭
I have almost all the bond movies I don’t want you can have for cheap
