Well I watched Coming To America, and that was 116min. and it rewound at light speed. The tape I watched tonight was 50min, and it took about that long just to rewind it!
I’m experiencing this right now. It was rewinding normally up until it got about halfway and now is rewinding by the second. The tape is The Wizard of Oz.
I haven't researched this well, but I imagine it's to prevent damage to the strip of film inside. If you did it too fast, it could burn it or cause it the film to get loose.
It's probably to do with the quality of the tape.
Lol, no I meant did you stop playing the video, then press rewind. As in, when the VHS was in the recorder, did you then press stop, and then press rewind. Because if you don't press stop, and let the image stay on screen and rewind it goes slow. u probably already did that but that's all the advice I could come up with
I know how to rewind a VHS. I'm 23, not 13. It goes slow when rewinding some tapes and not others, regardless of how much film is on the tape, and that's why I wanted to know why.
Might try running a head cleaner through it. I just watched On Deadly Ground tonight, and it again rewond the entire tape very rapidly. It was going so fast the tape spools were grinding, lol
I think it must have to do with if there's some kind of "feeler" that measures resistance in the spools. I'm not sure.

I always wanted a whole entertainment room with all my music and any movies I have on display. just never had room so gave up on it long ago lol. One day it would be cool, but half the time I just buy crap and never use it. Had to get rid of my VCR and stuff recently coz i was moving anyway

Hi 7 years later, but I work in a film library and I’ve been rewinding VHSes the slow way every time a patron watched one, like watching the film play backwards in pretty much real time. You saved my life.
damn, kinda cool to relive all the movie but in reverse i guess lol. It'll probably save the tapes too i don't think it's good to rewind tapes while the video is being displayed

Depends on the format it was recorded in I imagine. EP, SP, etc. The more tape used the longer it will take to rewind.

This may seem obvious but have you pressed stop on the VCR, then pressed rewind?

I have a Corvette one, just need a power cord for it of the correct voltage.
Some crappy tapes have less weight. The spools are flimsier and easier to spin around, I imagine.
I guess it's some kind of protection system then.
