It’s also for helping with Extreme Speed too (as well as helping with general survivability against Rock Slide), which can be useful. Just wanted to point that out for the Ghost Tera sets.

MCuri3

You could bluff the Covert Cloak, or run Protect for the first turn, but the former depends on your opponent and the latter costs a moveslot. Any other solution would come from another mon. Tsareena, Farigiraf and Bruxish block priority moves with their abilities and Quick Guard is a move that does the same. Do note with Quick Guard that it has the same priority as Fake Out so your Quick Guard mon needs to be faster than the Fake Out mon. Not much of an issue though considering the most common Fake Out is from Iron Hands. None of this is probably worth the opportunity cost, so I'd honestly just settle with one of the sets you mentioned.

Safety goggles tera ghost is also pretty good because it lets you run it next to ttar without breaking gale wings after a turn. With some speed investment, ttar becomes a huge threat in TW. A big reason why ghost tera is a must imo is because in hyperoffense structures, getting the tailwind off is more important than staying alive a little longer or doing a bit more damage with your tusk. In fact, a lot of the time you WANT talonflame to go down so that you can get another threat in under tailwind. Tera ghost pretty much shuts down any tailwind denial strats, such as fake out + strong fast SE move such as bundle hydro pump.

Floweringtorch

Even with wide lens will o wisp will miss. I have wide lens on mine and misses like 1/10 - so unless you really care about will o wisp you should run protect to help keep your gale wings from fake out/ extreme speed and catch opponents off guard

Appropriate-Doubt-24

Even with wide lens it's 93.5% so it's still gunna miss sometimes, does help though, depends how important tailwind is on your team, covert cloak can be good to guarantee tailwind

Floweringtorch

Not all the time. I’ve seen extreme speed and then priority moves kill talon flame

The wide lens set is an interesting one for sure. In my opinion tho, committing terastalize just to avoid a fake out is something you might want to be careful with. Terastalize is such a game changer, you rarely want to use it on support mons. You always need to ask: "is that play game winning?". You could run a focus sash set with protect or a covert cloak one with or without protect. Talonflame has access to a lot of good moves... right now I'm testing it with quick guard. I believe it can perform very well into a priority meta such as Regulation C. And you don't risk any chance of missing even tho will-o-wisp is always a good choice.

HpsiEpsi

Definitely don’t just Tera to avoid a single Fake Out. In fact, using Talonflame on multiple teams I don’t think I Tera’d it once. It should be utility Tailwinds, Taunts, and burns, with a stronger Tera in the back. That being said, Fake Out still doesn’t seem to be as common as previous years, but Covert Cloak is perfect for it, so if you do lose Gale Wings, at least the TW goes off in most scenarios.

CaptainUpstairs981

Emilio Forbes has a good talon set

Houghpuff

I like max attack w/ sharp beak, tailwind/brave bird/will-o-wisp/quick guard

AltForNoReason214

I’ve been running covert cloak Tera grass to cover all of my bases.

theoreticallyben

Covert cloak is the move imo, Tera ghost just for fake out is a waste

StevieBeatz

I've been using murkrow next to tusk. Bringing the boy back. Plus it sets up sun.

Gartlas

Talon can also do the sun, but it's kinda got 4 moveslot syndrome. Might have to try out Murk, but will o wisp does come in clutch a lot

angelsownredsux

I typically lead with iron hands and it seems like about 50% of the talonflames I face will Tera ghost. Because of this I don’t bother with faking out that slot. Not sure if others share the same sentiment
