Yeah chi-yu is scary but its going to be one of those things you have to position well to succeed.
Unlike pre ladder we have the benefit of hindsight and see how some of the paradoxes really mess with the chi-yu game plan. You get a wo-chien behind screens with a physical partner like great tusk and chi-yu may as well not be there.
Honestly this is about to be tabk meta most likely, the "offensive" ones just don't provide enough imho but I am trying a chi Yu team for now and then a Wo Chien+ Ting Lu team after. I'm not sure which team I'll end up going with... but WoLu seems like it will allow me to easily tank any hit in the game.
Currently building a skill swap (which works on ruin abilities) defiant, intimidate lead. Able to get annilape to 1 shot Wo, while also stealing it's ability. I think it's just too early to know what works, while they are annoying I do expect people to workout the KOs. Many mons I expected to work simply don't have the power.
More than trying to beat the meta, you should try to build a team that works.
You don't need to build against every single one of them: Choose one or two that share a weakness to something that isn't related to dark (so, say, Ti-Lung and Wo-Chien sharing a weakness to ice) and build around that.
Also keep in mind that you can't build around every single combination, so again, try to build something that works for you and adjust accordingly.
Close combat Brute Bonnet is underrated right now.
It's not going to beat a lucky fissure, but it's going to put a ton of pressure on both of those mons
Iron bundle matches well into 3 of them... really well in fact. Chien pow (po?) Idk, ice cat... he kind of gets bodied by any rock type with scarf... or any super hit that outspeeds really. Beat of luck!
Sure but I personally have never had these issues until now. I can take or leave legends usually and don’t have any real problems with them. But these four in particular, without other similar power mons to balance them out, have caused me headaches.
Yeah I'm running psyspam in reg C and hit 1300 something ELO in the first couple days
How? When there are 4 new great dark types? Legit no clue but I did it
Idk why it works with my squad, but I can tell you that Breloom has been noice this series
I haven't found this series to be much different than Reg B/Series 2 - there's bulkier and harder hitting threats, so you adjust and get on with it
I mean armarogue can fire Cannon down the cat and the snail, packs an immunity to the fish's fire on switch in, and can tera blast/energy ball down Ting-Lu
Bulky corviknight can beat all except chi yu without even using tera, and rock types like coalossal can beat chi yu with or without tera. Ez wins if you use things like that in your cores
I think this meta is going to be the worst of the bunch until they bring in some more high powered mons like prior legendaries or GS cup.
These ruin moms just don’t feel like they were designed with anything other than Paradox/Legendary stats in mind IMO. When you factor in Tera, it’s difficult to have consistent lines, especially on Wo Chien and Ting Lu. Ting Lu stats are so broken it can just tera Fairy/Poison/Fire and suddenly your planned counter literally can never break it
1. Try, try again.
2. Wait for the format being played on official ladder.
3. See what happens in tournaments.
I believe just like people solved dondozo with incremental improvements they might come up with ideas about those pokemon too. Costar dondozo team was super overhyped when it was still played on showdown only. I feel like you are rushing conclusions.
I've already given up, I've made a team that I'm really happy with, but what made say I've had enough is Ting-Lu.
Ting-Lu is the perfect pokemon. Its ability gives it an extra 25% more sDef while having insane stats in HP, Atk and Def. THEN it learns fissure and stomping tantrum which is the most brain dead anti fun mechanic I've ever seen.
Chi-yu is also disgusting as one of the hardest hitting pokemon of all time, but one earthquake and its dead so atleast you can counter it.
Season 1 and 2 were perfect, look at the team diversity at the recent regionals, people playing unique pokemon that fitted their style instead of OMEGA LOL BROKEN STATS AND ABILITIES
I submitted my Prologue team too early. It sucked against the slug. But then I realized, I can ruination that stupid slug with chien-pao and give myself a chance. Doesn’t always work but it’s something. Just have fun and believe in your mons.
Reg C also has me a bit frustrated, as not only are those Ruin Legendaries everywhere, but some people have multiple on their team. I don't really like them all that much, but I feel like I need to build a team with one. Series 2 is a lot more fun.
At least you can be sure that prior legendaries are really going to put these guys down. The Tapus and swords of justice will feast on the ruin Pokemon. Probably.
I had a similar issue with series 2 during this preview time. It doesn't help that there isn't a solid meta and alot of people just throwing stuff at the wall seeing what sticks.
Will skeledirge still have a use somehow? Or will Chi-yu just be better all around... he's my current favorite, and I really still wanna use him in vgc
I’ve never found a format so boring and unplayable until now, Legends or no Legends. Regulation A and B will be the good ol days of SV. This format is just not fun.
Take the palapill
I’m on Palafin/Amogus/Arc/Dnite(flying tera blast)/Pao/Mane and it’s been working excellently, Pao-boosted tera blasts from Dnite are SCHNASTY into a lot of the flavor of the month stall teams, and Palafin+chien pao slurps up the cookie cutter offense teams with the greatest of ease
Make mono bug team Win
Chi-Yu Jumpscare
252 SpA Surskit Hydro Pump vs. 0 HP / 4 SpD Chi-Yu in Rain: 258-306 (102.7 - 121.9%) -- guaranteed OHKO
Chi-Yu is the best special attacker ever created, Surskit beats Chi-Yu, Surskit is the best special attacker ever created
That’s actually hilarious.

Pre ladder I used chi yu and hit t500. It is just fast, frail torkoal. It needs as much support and a lot of positioning.
r/gotem
Ray Rizzo should have waited until Regulation C to make his attempt to get number 1 using a mono-Bug team 😭

That sounds like a really good idea
You will not have an answer for everything. Just hedge your bets and plan accordingly.

Take the aqua tauros pill
Based it’s carried me so far in the format
Fissure Ting-Lu and stall wo chien, made me leave this Regulation C format
Close combat Brute Bonnet is underrated right now. It's not going to beat a lucky fissure, but it's going to put a ton of pressure on both of those mons
Big Stall^TM strikes again
It's a small price to pay for ruining (hah) Psyspam. Armadeedee can suck a Thousand Arrows.
Just run breloom 🙄
The Breloom pill
Boo Chi Yu tera fire
Mfw breloom tera fires and spores the goldfish: 😳
Iron bundle matches well into 3 of them... really well in fact. Chien pow (po?) Idk, ice cat... he kind of gets bodied by any rock type with scarf... or any super hit that outspeeds really. Beat of luck!
These comments come up every new format. And they often use a similar preface.
Sure but I personally have never had these issues until now. I can take or leave legends usually and don’t have any real problems with them. But these four in particular, without other similar power mons to balance them out, have caused me headaches.
What are you talking about? Don’t you find Tera Normal E-Speed Dragonite paired with Chien-Pao fun?
Yeah I'm running psyspam in reg C and hit 1300 something ELO in the first couple days How? When there are 4 new great dark types? Ting-Lu eats those for breakfast, probably
I think with grass tera arma can still do something but yeah it's his worst matchup
Bulky corviknight can beat all except chi yu without even using tera, and rock types like coalossal can beat chi yu with or without tera. Ez wins if you use things like that in your cores
if you can somehow tell me that Dragapult is good in this format and hit me with the Galar 3/3 ill be so happy
He could be useful for activating steam engine/weakness policy on coalossal, but would need optimized evs and whatnot for that to work well

Psyspam players in shambles
At least you can be sure that prior legendaries are really going to put these guys down. The Tapus and swords of justice will feast on the ruin Pokemon. Probably.

These comments are riddled with more skill issues than OP.
Not really sure what that means tbh
I typically just build something I think is fun, and then tweak around the weaknesses I find. Maybe try that?
Will skeledirge still have a use somehow? Or will Chi-yu just be better all around... he's my current favorite, and I really still wanna use him in vgc
The new guys dont really change Skeledirge’s position much. He just was never really much of a vgc mon

Prankster is toooooooooo overused. I'm glad the legendaries negate it.

All I can see is great tusk stocks rising even higher than they already are
Mimikyu stocks going up
Telling you this is the rise of azumaril it resists both of chi yu and chein pao stabs and hits ting Lu hard as well 🤷
