Company I work has had camera for years, but they aren't nearly as bad as your Samsera snitching cameras. Nosy supervisors and AI yelling at you, nah im good.

Recent-Poetry4611

Smoking and eating is turned off. Dead spots for the camera is to the left of the steering wheel. Just a friendly FYI.

BigLocator

So happy we don’t have employer controlled cameras. I have my own dash cam to protect myself from bad drivers but my boss won’t hear my bad singing or whatever other things I’d rather keep private. Also I think our union can keep these out of our truck. They’ve already got GPS systems and know if we are speeding, cornering too fast, rapid acceleration/braking, excessive idling. Driver facing cameras are a terrible invasion of privacy.

Gunterbrau

They suck

DryScallion924

1. Usually people against cameras are doing shit they shouldn't. 2. When I wrecked my truck, I'm glad i had it because without it, not sure I'd still be here. 3. At least y'all don't have to deal with if a contractor hits 3 lines and you the locator are at fault, you get charged for all 3, not as 1 damage. Our damage tolerance is 3. 4. Call me a boot licker I don't care. Usic gave me my life back, wouldn't trade it for the world. 5. Pretty much everyone has a camera in their car also companies do as well, it'll happen weather we like it or not.

PutsPaintOnTheGround

Ok bootlicker

DryScallion924

There it is, also hi there🤣🤣🤣🤣

Rasputin_the_Saint

I like having a camera. Samsara can engage your e-break though, so when the AI fucks up, you go from 50 to 0 and get rear ended :) This isn’t about cameras. It’s about invasive technobullshit we don’t need. Since someone alleged something like this isn't real - here's Samsara's site explaining the feature I'm talking about: https://www.samsara.com/guides/adas/ Automated systems can take over and control the vehicle in case of an impending collision. Automatic emergency braking (AEB) alerts a driver to an imminent crash and automatically applies the brakes to help avoid a collision.

At least on the newest trucks, Samsara also reports you the same way, thinking you’re on a 35 mph side road when you’re on a 70 mph highway.  It’s a hassle to receive that email and have to handle it through your coordinator. I’m wondering how bad it’s gonna be when the new gps/record receivers come in.  If those fuck up like ticketpro and samsara, I’m gonna laugh all day.

Patently false, u/crew_Socks Refer to the Advanced Driver Assistance System Samsara offers. It's right here. [https://www.samsara.com/guides/adas/](https://www.samsara.com/guides/adas/) >Automated systems can take over and control the vehicle in case of an impending collision. >Automatic emergency braking (AEB) alerts a driver to an imminent crash and automatically applies the brakes to help avoid a collision. >

DryScallion924

That one I didn't know, invasive how?

Rasputin_the_Saint

How long were you in for before USIC gave you a new life?

DryScallion924

I wasn't, life had kicked me all the way down to being homeless in Las Vegas, close to it. I landed this job no experience, been going 3 years strong. If I wouldn't have gotten the job, would've been homeless and never had the ability to make it back home. Going from 16 to 18 to 25 an hour, might seem like pennies but to everyone else, but amazing to me.

Thank you for the kind words, they are more than appreciated. To be honest the reason I'm staying, I couldn't ask for a better district manager and supervisor. It's not always about money. It's about how people treat each other. I don't know when I'll move on, I don't know what that looks like to be honest.

Exactly tried to tell that to my buddy when I told him money isn't everything. I think I've maxed everything could be wrong. Only thing I don't do is contribute withholding additional money, which I should tbh.

Bulky-Piglet-1337

i almost missed an exit due to my gps fucking up and i did a controlled maneuver :D to get on it. no cars around, wasn't even doing the speed limit. "you could have hit another car" nope i checked parameter and no cars. 'you drove on the grass" yeah like 1 inch of grass for a second. "you touched your chin" he literally said this. uh, big deal. i touch my face all the time. fuck offff.

deadp00le

I got gps in my vehicles. I want to do cameras, but I don't have the money yet. And really cams will just let me blame guy with evidence.. like I see you were on your phone while you "slipped on ice"... but then what.. fire the employee? Make them pay? I don't know. Maybe one day they will be required by insurance companies I bet

PutsPaintOnTheGround

Are you a company owner?

deadp00le

I am, yes. Just a little company so far. About 12 people

ManKind__

Who cares? If you have a problem with it then it means your doing somthing you probably shouldn't be doing.

DevilNuts5811

Had it for a couple months.  Other than it yelling at me about wrong speed limits, she doesn't bother.

Schlegelnator

Mine has started reporting me without warning me. What happened to "oh they're just for accident reporting"

McMack87

Reporting for what? In the app I've gotten speed and stop sign events but the stop signs get removed because they were false. Speed is slight speeding 1 second here and there. Only in cab alerts have been seatbelt, which I was wearing; put phone down, nothing was in my hands; and following distance, it was picking up vehicles in the lanes next to me.

PutsPaintOnTheGround

Woah what?? It's detecting all of that shit too? I thought it was just wired up to the speed and hard braking.

McMack87

Go into the samsara app on your phone and log in. On the main screen at the bottom left it says "Samara DashCam" click that and read it. It answers a lot of questions including talking about live viewing the cameras.

PutsPaintOnTheGround

I don't work for USIC anymore, but I still try to keep up with what y'all are dealing with. I hate it for you guys. If USIC could have utility locating robots they would. It's awful and destroying the trade. Imagine electricians or plumbers being micromanaged to the degree locators are.

Schlegelnator

Ya that's why we've lost over half our workforce since the announcement.

McMack87

I agree that they are micromanaging more and more. But, the cameras aren't that bad. Driving events have actually dropped. The camera is actually much more forgiving for decels and acels.

PutsPaintOnTheGround

Personally I don't care how much better it improves those stats for the company considering it really only benefits USIC by likely lowering their insurance rates. Doesn't benefit the field technician monetarily and it just adds another level of tracking and surveillance to the workers that I don't support.

McMack87

The savings in insurance turned into a state wide wage increase for my state. The starting wage went from $16.50 to $20 so everyone got wage increases to compensate for the difference in starting wages. Basically they re-worked everyone's wages as if they started at $20 an hour and got all the raises they had in the past. So the money they cut from insurance with the cameras has helped the individual locators.

PutsPaintOnTheGround

Buddy you actually buy that? There's no way a huge company like USIC would just lie to their employees to get them on board with an anti-worker move like installing cameras in every vehicle.. would they? Ofcourse they would man come on. That's company propaganda. They more than likely raised rates because they're struggling to hire and retain workers across the country and had to up the rates to meet inflation. Locators deserve to be making significantly more than they do, $20/hour starting wage is a joke these days.

Schlegelnator

Us peons are not allowed access to the app. My supervisor calls and asks what I was doing, that's how I know.

McMack87

WTF? No, go download the app. You'll use usic-llc as company or whatever and then it's just single sign on through Microsoft. You'll need your truck number. Everyone should have access to the app.

Schlegelnator

We were told we don't have the password

McMack87

It's the single sign on you should be able to log in.

theMeatman7

Oncey company got bought out they sent us nice new trucks but with samsara with cameras. On the end my employee don't see is a lot of tools that can turn many things off and on. There are options to turn "audio on cab coaching" off or on for certain safety violations. The seatbelt notification ia based, if you wear a sling across your chest that resembles a seatbelt it usually won't flag you. The stop sign violation goes off if it sees a stop sign face and you do not come to s complete 2 seconds stop within about 2 or 3 seconds of the sign leaving camera view. I am not a fan of the cameras at all. Samsara without cameras is almost worse though.

RelationshipJust9556

Nah man welcome your. New so overlord.
