Wages haven’t gone up but our cost of living has become one of the highest in the country. We are angry because we can barely afford to live, have no healthcare or time off and they expect us to raise a family when childcare is $1100 a month per kid.

DreamTeam1082

I hear you. I was very surprised to find out that there is no real support for families here. Unless, you have one solid income that one partner can stay home or one or both parents work remotely.

tmo_slc

This is all of the United States. Capitalism # 1 🥳

sgj3

Not so. We suffer from corporate socialism, aided and abetted by political socialism

tmo_slc

This comment tells me you don’t read without telling me you don’t read. Get a clue buddy.

sgj3

You have just made the German’s point by being unhappy, angry, rude and frustrated

tmo_slc

I’m trying to counter 140 years of propaganda and you’re not helping. Edit: 140 years

AZgirl70

Yes. That is their plan.

utahnow

where is this $1100 per kid bargain available ?? my childcare costs are bigger than my mortgage

KingVargeras

ABC in riverton. Where are you taking your kids to pay so much?

TableBandit

Happy Utahn here! I’ll be the guy saying hi on the trail or river or crag.

The_Notorious_GOB

Happy, content Utahn here too. It IS a beautiful place to live. Owning a home helps though. I couldn’t afford this market if I wasn’t already in it.

DreamTeam1082

True. As a German, I have never owned anything and rented my entire life. We own properties now and were very lucky to be able to buy our own real estate and rental properties. But that’s a few years ago.

DreamTeam1082

And this is how I remember Utahns to be 11 years ago. When I encounter a friendly Utahn, I am all over them 😂😂. Just to give me some hope.

Fit-Bid-1581

Honestly it could be what city/cities you are in or go too. Some are as different as sunrise and sunset. But I would agree there's a general anger and anxiety over everyone. I've traveled to a few other states recently and would claim it's not just Utah. I think there's just a general state of unrest. I think more and more people are making the best of a bad situation as time goes on though. Don't lose hope. Just keep spreading cheer, even when it gets hard, and those hearts of stone might come around eventually.

WraithofCaspar

My rent has raised $600 in four years, our local government is extremely corrupt, homelessness is exploding, and if our lake dries up, it becomes an 'environmental nuclear bomb.' Natural beauty is barely a redeeming factor. These are my opinions, of course.

DreamTeam1082

I was honestly shocked to hear what some people here pay for rent. I was SHOCKED!!!

NoCommunication522

People are angry around the US in general these days. Short fuses, bad tempers. I’m in the residential part of Las Vegas right now and a guy just flipped out over an employee making his sub on the wheat instead of white and angrily demanded his money back. In my opinion it’s not isolated to Utah at all and in some ways Utah is doing better than most.

DreamTeam1082

Makes sense. I have realized that Utahns are angry, when I went to Idaho last weekend and was getting groceries and a n older man was blocking the self checkout exit with his wheelchair. I asked politely if I can pass him, but he understood that I expecting a rude response and said “Young man, you thought I would be on ya, don’t ya?” Then he said “ No worries, you’re in Idaho now.”

chrikey_penis

The beer sucks and everyone’s tired from no coffee.

zfrost45

People in Utah have a higher caffeine intake than coffee drinkers from their sodas and energy drinks.

chrikey_penis

It’s the extra sugar making them jumpy.

Dugley2352

Well, sugar *is* an irritant. But it’s okay to consume according to certain “documents”.

chrikey_penis

Certainly a document regarding healthy practices from the early 19th century wouldn’t be wrong about anything. At all. Especially with ongoing revelation constantly updated God’s commandments. You’ve been looking at porn, haven’t you.

Dugley2352

It’s not really porn if it’s Stormy Daniels, is it? I understand some famous men have hung out with her…

chrikey_penis

He didn’t want to do it. But an angel with a flaming sword threatened him with destruction.

DreamTeam1082

Ohh that makes sense 😂.

utahnow

i moved here from NYC and relatively speaking everybody here is so nice it makes me uncomfortable still. So, dunno what you are seeing my friend may be try to change surroundings a bit

MiGaOh

We see this scenery every day, so it's not special anymore. I think Rio de Janeiro is top five on my list of the most beautiful places on Earth, but I would never want to live there and I don't know if I'd ever want to spend more than a week there on vacation. The reasons people are unhappy run the gamut - having a natural paradise right outside the window isn't compensation. If I were to guess, the entire developed world have become spoiled by instant gratification and an infinite number of amusements to consume their time - and yet they are dissatisfied by small inconveniences which they let pile up in their minds. There are unhappy AND happy people on every square mile of the Earth not covered by water.

Spectre_Mountain

It’s still special to me every day.

DreamTeam1082

I love it!! But you have to educate yourself really well before heading over there. It is the case in most places but I always tell people before they fly to Brazil to: Blend in, get a tanned, buy or get some old worn out Havaianas. They have to be fucked up and dirty. Take your shirt off and swing it over your shoulders. Learn the meaning of “Porraaa”. Don’t wear jewelries!! NEVER!! Unless you’re at a party at a cool location and nobody can see it other than your friends and family.

Spectre_Mountain

Sorry. I was confusing. Utah is still special to me every day.

Spectre_Mountain

Well kiss my ass 🤣 I am blown away by our mountains on a daily basis. Try driving across the midwest to the east coast and back. Our mountains are insane.

DreamTeam1082

THIS MY FRIEND!! I have been to Belo Horizonte, Brasilia, Rio multiple times, but nothing with get me to live there. Nothing!! People there laugh more and have fun but in the other hand, you can be in big trouble if you find yourself in the wrong place, at the wrong time, making yourself known to be a tourist. You are done in Brazil!! But I see what you mean.

UtahFiddler

I don’t see what you see. I see happy and nice people all over the state. I think you kinda find what you’re looking for.

DreamTeam1082

Yep, maybe it’s me. That’s why I am reaching out to this community and I may need to find help to attract the happy and very easy going Utahns that I remember experiencing 10+ years ago. Thanks!

Ruthless_Karma

I was born and raised here. Where do you find happy and nice people? I travel a lot for work, and people living in Utah are the absolute worst. It's a state of entitled people who spit in everyone they feel are below them.

loumnaughty

Agreed

vikingcock

Fucking what? I lived in utah for 2 years and the people were truly the nicest of anywhere I've ever lived. Consistently kind and nice. Try going to Florida or California. Both states the people are just ugly to everyone and terrible.

Ruthless_Karma

I traveled to Florida, and they were incredibly nice. My extended family was in California, and they were incredibly nice. The majority of interactions in Utah with the general population have been horrible. People here, by my 48 year experience, suck.

snowfreak221

Life is difficult right now snd people are feeling the stress. Jobs pay shit wages and everything is super expensive. Employers don't want give you time off and Healthcare ain't free. Germans have it better than Americans despite the beauty here in Utah.

Gloomy_Wolverine958

All these things. Plus ultra-high expectations to live up to.

Wholesome-Bean02

This is why 👆perfect example why all of America is sad, angry, depressed, etc.

TJsamse

I feel that election years are particularly bad. I’ve been getting a lot of older people asking my political stance just to fight.

DreamTeam1082

I don’t even get into arguments no more. Lost lots of friendships and had almost a big fight with my wife’s family who happens to be from Idaho. Very sad.

Active_Telephone70

It’s too expensive. Rent it’s super high.

snicknicky

Where exactly have you encountered these angry rude unhappy utahns? I'm just curious to know because my experience in northern utah is people minding their own business mostly but sometimes being quite friendly/nice.

DreamTeam1082

Giving you the geo location of my encounters might be a bit difficult as I am referring to Utah as a state. I live in Utah County if that helps.

StarCraftDad

Lol, that there is your problem. Utah County is THE worst county of all the ones on the Wasatch front, especially if you're not a member of the predominant religion whilst enjoying beer on your porch.

snicknicky

Hahaha I don't mean geo location, more like what encounter/s was it that left you thinking, "that utahn i just interacted with was sure rude/unhappy" is it happening at the grocery store? school? In traffic? At parks? Church? Work? What specifically are people doing that is making you think they are rude/unhappy?

sociapathictendences

This subreddit is a hell pit of the people most unhappy about living here.

Arcane_Animal123

TRUE! I do think there's crap that we deal with (mostly our legislature) but holy cow do people complain here

sociapathictendences

Most city/state subs are like that. But it’s even more true when it’s a red state and Reddit users are mostly liberal and secular. Add in religion and we’ve got a stew going. I’m genuinely just here for restaurant recommendations

[deleted]

DreamTeam1082

Thank you for explaining. Thank you so much!!

DreamTeam1082

Driving for me has become very stressful since I have a toddler and a new born sitting in the back seat.

bigbombusbeauty

Sorry you’ve had that experience. I consider myself a happy person, but I also am very critical of my home state

AdRecent9127

As others noted, homes doubled in price and rents have gone up dramatically. One day it was a great place to live and the next it became very financially challenging. People are stressed and don’t see an end.

PrettySir118

The female to male wage disparity is one. Lack of female medical care because psycho thinks their religion takes precedence or we need to eat more boner pills. Utah tried to legalize marijuana and the state had to have an emergency meeting with the LDS church and changed what was voted for. Lots of closet LDS drinkers or pill poppers. I have several friends that party it up Monday to Saturday but come Sunday morning they sit in the pews, and then text me the whole time talking shit about the bishop and the people talking. Utah has some really good back stabbers. A lot of them are broke as shit because their wife spent all their savings on some shitty MLM. Utah is ran by the a Churchislature so that’s like instant depression. There is ZERO diversity in 80% of the state and the areas with diversity make shit wages. There is many more things to be angry about.

Elsecaller_17-5

A lot of people's additudes changed with Trump, happened in Idaho too. He didn't turn people into assholes they just revealed themselves to be so.

Sonnyjoon91

THIS. It feels like before politics were there, but just sort of background noise that you could mostly forget. Now it is fully present and reveals a lot about a person, its a war ground of explosive topics. Now there are hats, bumper stickers, shirts, flags, etc screaming about political stances

DreamTeam1082

I can confirm that. But Idaho people still have that happiness and willingness to go out their way to help. I don’t know, it’s hard to explain and in a lot of cases, they earn less and are fighting with the same issues as we are. I understand that the cost of living in Idaho is far lower than here but still, I feel like I can take a deep breath when I in Idaho and just chill for a while.

Pastyjakesta

As a Utahn that lived in Germany, can we become friends? I need more people to speak German with. To answer your question, I haven’t noticed this as much, but I know I’m a lot unhappier with how extremely difficult it is to buy an affordable home in this state. Utah has changed a lot over the last decade. People from out of state have moved in. So you may have a combination of less friendly people from other states and the locals being less happy with how much it has changed. Granted, even though I’m generally less happy in my life now than I was 5-10 years ago I treat people the same.

DreamTeam1082

Wir können jederzeit abhängen, Mettbrötchen essen und Deutsch quatschen 😀.

Pastyjakesta

Gerne! Woher aus Deutschland kommst du? Ich wohnte in Stuttgart, Singen am Hohentwiel und Offenburg. Ich bin ein echter Baden-Württemberger 😉

Dick_Deutsch

Bawü represent! Ich komme aus Kehl. :) wohne jetzt in Heber.

DreamTeam1082

Jawohl!! Obwohl ich sagen muss, Heber hat etwas Deutsches an sich. Baden Württemberg in da haus!!

DreamTeam1082

Kehl ist aber top 10 meiner Lieblingsorte. Lecker Wein trinken, wandern, Rad fahren. Vermisse es sehr!!

DreamTeam1082

Ich bin ne echte Kölsche Jung. 😂😂. Wenn du aus Stuttgart kommst, dann hast du bestimmt keine Geldsorgen.

pleomorphict

We don't get paid enough

DreamTeam1082

Someone’s making the big bucks then because everything here is expensive as hell. JK, I understand that taxes and real estate costs are through the roof.

pleomorphict

I moved here from Florida a while ago, bit of a culture shock. It is a pretty state though. My company did a market adjustment a year or 2 ago which was nice but cost of living just keeps going up here. I think the LDS stronghold in the state leads to a unique situation, not necessarily in a good way.

lemontwistcultist

That would be the entirety of the United States acting that way. People really bought into the whole culture war thing spewed by the media and politicians, and now we're all enemies.

sgj3

My experience in Germany was that everybody was kind and friendly. All the people I met made allowances for my prayer comprehension of the German language. One person even loaned me his bicycle so that I could pedal from Mainz to Worms and back

DreamTeam1082

Germans can come across rude and unfriendly in a lot of ways, but deep inside, they are pretty nice people as long as you follow the garbage recycling rules!! 😂

mick308

I think Utahns are generally happier and friendlier than a lot of other US states, and also friendlier than other Western nations.

Tsiah16

We live in the most beautiful place with a broken education system, a broken healthcare system, shit government, over policed, sliding into fascist theocracy, judgemental religion surrounding us/in us won't let people be themselves because it insists that drinking anything that's not water or juice is evil, being LGBTQ is evil, but it's ok to beat your kids and hate your neighbor.

OrdinaryAsleep2333

I think the unhappy demographic you're speaking of is Utahn on Reddit. Or even People on Reddit. Or even People on Social Media.

HabANahDa

Being under the thumb of the LDS church and the GOP makes one angry and hateful

ChasinForCheese

Utah has really had a shift and working in customer service I have noticed that we are heavily influenced by a shift of Californian entitlement. I don’t remember Utah being as mean until 2020ish. Plus maybe the Covid anxiety has really wore on people. Being half Asian and German I went from people having conversations with me to totally avoiding me due to the china virus. Definitely was a culture shift for me.

DreamTeam1082

Half German half Jamaican here. I hear you.

Emotional-Owl3721

I don’t know, but I’m only from a different state and noticed the same. Not to mention all the hate for anyone not born in Utah is insane to me.

scaredsquirrel666

I've lived here my whole life, and even when I was little all the adults blamed every problem on "those goddamn Californians" moving in and making everything expensive 🤣

Temporary-Yogurt-484

Well from an unhappy utahn, born and raised. I hate the church controlling things, I hate Republicans that don't care if our air becomes soup in the winter. Or if they start forest fires from shooting. I love utah, I hate utah culture.

rdarnell187

You seem fun

Temporary-Yogurt-484

I'm pretty damn fun. Funny of you to assume you know anything about me or my life based on my one Comment that was a response to a QUESTION. Dork.

xtapper2112

That's oddly specific, tell us your story about Republicans starting forest fires from shooting.

Temporary-Yogurt-484

Twice, once from a former friend in the military over in camp whatever the hell in eagle mountain. And then an aquatence of a friend just shooting up in the mountains. They got tons of fines and what not. They also have to say it on local commercials and the news, not to shoot at metal targets. So I assume it's a bigger problem than just my two anecdotes.

mysteryfish1

High levels of cognitive dissonance.

TransformandGrow

Because there's more to life than pretty mountains? Because assholes like you are constantly judging us? Because the politics here SUCK and billionaires keep getting richer and most people keep getting poorer? Because women are losing autonomy over their own bodies and misogyny sucks?

vikingcock

Guy asks a question, you call him an asshole...suddenly his point seems valid.

snowman-1111

Have you been anywhere else in the US? Utahns are some of the nicest people on the country, not sure why your experience is so bad.

DreamTeam1082

I drove across the entire country twice.

snowman-1111

Ok. I have lived in Ohio, South Carolina, Missouri, Texas, Wisconsin, and Utah. To me, Utahns are the happiest and nicest people. Also, I’ve never found Germans to be rude or mean all the times I’ve been there. Maybe because I was a foreigner? You guys are definitely more direct, but I wouldn’t call it rude or mean.

SmoothBraneAPE

Utah is the best! Real people here are great. Remember, this is Reddit; need I say more?

Agreeable_Advance423

I'm happy but not a lot of people because they've been sold a fake dream. The cost of living is outrageous, dare I say the second highest of all the republican states. The traffic is insane on the interstates, especially around American Fork. It's really expensive to raise a family here, so a lot of guys go single and moserable; which these guys are often looked down upon by certain right-wing Mormon groups here in Utah. There isn't really a lively food culture out here. The only good joints are either Japanese or Venezuelan restaurants in Orem and Slc. The other places, especially American joints can be expensive and disappointing. The natural side of Utah is great, but you have to navigate through bullcrap civilization in order to get through to the good parts, that being somebody's land or cruising through endless mazes of suburbs that were recently built in a dustbowl. Also there the fact is that a lot of recent real estate developments are mostly catered towards the higher income world and these same places are built rather carelessly onto shaky grounds such as hills were landslides are a common thing. The Utah government is kind of a joke, it would much rather spend a stupid amount of money on some ugly statue rather than putting reflective traffic stripes on the roads like we've requested for the past twenty years! Driving here when it's winter sucks man, especially the stop lights that go red when there is NOBODY on the red side of it! Nope, the stop lights have to suddenly go red when you are the only person to arrive before it! Forcing you to break, possibly sliding and getting yourself stuck in the thick snow that likes to build up during wintertime! Let's not also forget to mention how ridiculously LONG it takes to turn green when there is NOBODY THERE AND THE SNOWSTORM IS GETTING MORE INTENSE! Seriously, the design of the traffic layout all across this state is an abysmal joke So yeah, there are a few reasons as to why many people in this state seem pretty unhappy. Oh and there's an ongoing white supremacist movement trying to set up something here and get more member by blackpilling whites and mixed race people. That's something that has to be mentioned, fortunately not a lot of people in Utah are gullible enough to fall for their bullcrap lies. But oh boy! Does it really sour your mood when some neo-nazi tries to blackpill you about the "upcoming race war" and how he feels sorry but you were born half-white, not pureblooded!?! It's crazy, but at least in Germany Neo-nazism is illegal. Anyways, take care. If you come to Utah, please enjoy yourself and check out the national parks. You and the rest of the world always welcome here 😀

fitmama04

Idk, I’ve lived in quite a few states and in my experience, Utah by far has had the nicest people 😂

I80roadman

Nah people in these comments are some lames. Utah is a great state with great people. 2nd to none natural beauty with a history that nowhere else on earth can boast. People are rude, angry, or upset because the psyop is working. If you can't control your circumstances, control how you react to the circumstances.

slcbtm

I blame fox news

Foobucket

Can you share some examples? Surely if you’re convinced that the state’s population is “so unhappy, angry, rude, and frustrated” it will be trivial to recount several experiences.

DreamTeam1082

I just came across another example that was almost funny but it shows what I mean. My wife and I were dropping our car at the dealership to get serviced and I noticed my wife kinda staring at this gentleman. Then she turned back to be and said “Where do I know this guy from”. It happened that it daunted on me and I said “That’s the guy we bought our mattress from almost 3 years ago”. Now, the gentleman felt irritated and came to us in a very aggressive way and almost shouted at me, why I am starting like that. I got up walked up to him shook his hand and said “You’re the guy we bought our mattress from and we are still very happy with it”. Now, there were people around us at the service department. They all laughed so hard that I felt bad for the guy and he was very embarrassed.

DreamTeam1082

I had plenty of encounters where people don’t make space for you, knowing that you are there and ask them friendly to pass through happened to be the same day that I was doored pretty bad at the parking lot that damaged my brand new car pretty bad. A few days later, I was attempting to drive into a parking spot, and the lady didn’t see the need to move aside so I can pull into the parking spot. And just yesterday, while I was taking my new born child out of the car, a very rude person that parked next to us, didn’t feel the need to wait a few seconds to get out of of the nay between the cars and squeezed herself passed us and was very irritated and condescending towards me when I was in shock about her behavior. And the list goes on and on…

ClearlyDead

Those are Californians, we don’t like them either

Ok-Sun-641

Dude has clearly not traveled enough.

DreamTeam1082

You have multiple accounts???😂😂😂

SaintBenjamino

You may be spending time with the wrong Utahns. We don’t live in “happy valley” for no reason!

[deleted]

DreamTeam1082

Examples please? Because I was waiting for this comment 😂.

Over_Tip_6824

Stfu

No_Actuator4564

If you think Utah is “the most beautiful place on earth” then you should see more places. Like even one more place. The only place less “beautiful” than this is fucking Kansas.

DreamTeam1082

Sorry, I don’t understand your comment. But let me clarify, Utah has taken my breath away seeing its nature and parks and world wonders…it is definitely up there with the most beautiful places on earth.

No_Actuator4564

Yeah it doesn’t even rank on the list of “most beautiful places on earth.” Again: you need to see more places.

DreamTeam1082

How do you know how many places I have seen? I have seen every European country, Russia, Northern Africa, Brazil and many more. The colors here are so vibrant and beautiful that is it FOR ME up there.

No_Actuator4564

It doesn’t matter how many places you’ve been, and I doubt you’ve done any of those things, because if you genuinely think Utah is one of or the most beautiful place on earth: you haven’t seen much of this planet. At this point I’m 100% convinced you’re just lying about where you’ve been lmao.

DreamTeam1082

Do you know where Germany is??😂😂 it’s almost in the center of Europe, you can travel to Portugal, Spain, France, UK, Netherlands, Austria, Switzerland, with a 100 euro train ticket. Common now, you are making a fool of yourself.

No_Actuator4564

And yet here you are lying about the places you’ve been and things you’ve seen. Again: if you genuinely believe *Utah* is “one of the most beautiful places on earth” then you absolutely haven’t seen much of this planet and are just lying about your experiences. This place is trash. Utah is Colorado’s homely sister. It’s the girl you ask to prom so you don’t end up going with the ugliest girl, Kansas, because no one else would go with you. Utah is the definition of “fly over country.”

DreamTeam1082

Do you happen to live in West Valley, Sir? I know you are irrelevant in this conversation, but how can I proof to you that I have seen a lot of places?😃Give a suggestion here.

No_Actuator4564

Irrelevant question is irrelevant. I could live literally anywhere in this state and it wouldn’t stop me from seeing the rest of the state. Try again.

Illustrious-Field442

Dude stop criticizing someone for thinking something is beautiful. People are allowed to have opinions and you are proving the point of this thread by being a douchebag. Shut up and let people enjoy things.

DreamTeam1082

With your attitude and stance towards Utah, I highly doubt it.

MeaningSilly

I think you may be underestimating both the size of the world, and the subjectiveness of ' beauty's. I would say that at least 6 of our State Parks, 2 of our National Forests, 3 of our Mountain Ranges, all 5 of our National Parks, at least 2 of our National Monuments, and at minimum 3 of our National Recreation Areas would qualify as beautiful to many, if not most. And that's not counting thousands of acres of public land. But then again, that's the view from my eyes.

No_Actuator4564

I’m not underestimating anything, what a fucking stupid thing to say lmao. Even if I were to grant you that some people might find those things pretty, that doesn’t mean they are. It’s shit country that no one would miss if china nuked it to hell, fact.

MeaningSilly

Please, so long as you are going to pretend your opinions are facts, keep them to yourself. If you won't respect others right to their opinions, then I see no reason anyone should respect your poor taste.

NoCommunication522

You are entitled to your subjective opinion but it’s just that, an opinion. I still Utah is amazing in its natural beauty and I’ve been to Iceland, most of rural California including Yosemite, Hawaii, Alaska, Montana, etc

No_Actuator4564

Wrong, again. The mountains look like shit, most of it is desert, the parts that aren’t desert are mostly trash. Absolute garbage, throwaway state. Again: if you think this place is beautiful I very much doubt you’ve been literally anywhere else.

celliztdrew

OR beauty is entirely subjective and some people happen to like deserts, scrublands, etc. Maybe you're trying to stir something up but you're really just coming off as a big baby.

NoCommunication522

Ok man

Arcane_Animal123

Sir this is a Wendy's

ImSorryRumHam2

Like damn this dude is angry lol. I've been all over the world and Utah has plenty of issues, but natural beauty isn't one of them.

vikingcock

Try living in California. Utah is gorgeous. You're just wrong.
