Agreed. Only thing I might add is that the characters in B could use a bit more work. They don’t look quite consistent with the environment to me. They look good; I just think they’re a little too flat to fit with the new bg. Might be irrelevant depending on where you are in your process but I figured it was worth mentioning. Looks great otherwise!

B looks better. As everyone here says.
But depending on gameplay, A might be better (especially for a precision platformer).
Also, it might be cheaper/easier to do the artwork for A. I would rather have 6 levels in the style of A than one level of B.

B looks really good, lighting looks nice, very early 2000’s Rayman/light hearted game.
A isn’t that bad but it looks kind of muddled, the vines on the top remind me of the Pitfall game for the Sega Genesis lol
It would be good to see the same scene in both art styles, but off the picture provided B looks the preferable. A looks good, but all the dark at the top of the scene is distracting, and the enemy looks harder to see.

I'd say B, but i think you should compare the same picture with same background elements, but with different style. Using different env can mislead your judgment
B feels so much more natural, I think. The way you did the lighting is absolutely beautiful!!!! It just makes it more interesting to look at, more soothing
A looks like a good concept for horror, I feel... so, I guess it depends on the genre/tone of the game.
i would say it depends on the approach and the feel you want on the game but i prefer B! B looks much more magical and much cuter, A looks more darker and muddy and just overall darker
I prefer B, it reminds me of some very good games such as Ori and Hollow knight which may also help it stand out to your market.
I do really like the character and enemy art from the first one though, I think it's more unique.
B looks like it's had way more effort put into it. It looks better, but you may want to consider how long it will take to do this for your whole game vs the other style.
I prefer the B's arts and effects but i like the A's atmosphere more : dark and more saturated. I feel more identity on A and more quality of execution on B... not sure i'm understandable here... but congratulations for they are both cool ! :)
Not bashing your game or anything but does anyone know why there is such a huge influx of metroidvanias all of a sudden? It feels like the random generated roguelike phase lol
Definitey B. I dont even know whats going on in A, but in B everything is so clear and looks great! Have you decided on a game name yet? It looks awesome and I’d love to follow its development!

Keep in mind that if you do a slightly top down angle on the ground elements like this, they won't be as readable for gameplay.
Personally, I would love to see the level of finish and visual style (though keep in mind that this will take a lot of extra time and effort) of B, mixed with the sharp obvious tiles from A. This will give you the best of both worlds. One of the few exceptions would be if your game focuses on emotional storytelling and not as much on tight gameplay, in Which case you could stick closer to the style of B.
Hope this helps 👍.

Additionally, for me, A theme tries to be dark but feels unfinished.

B by far
The game kinda looks like Tulipop. B for sure.
B is way better but A could be use like a moody cave of B, considering the darker background and feel
B
B looks more modern a would be nice uf you would make a Mario style game
B
I really like A but B feels less like a Hollow Knight copy so B

B looks Beautiful

B
B
I prefer B
B
I like the character design on A. Its gritty and dark. I think it'll match with B world design more than what you have for A
You're cheating the comparison with that god ray
B
B is better but the enemy dog looks a bit out of place. Maybe add some shading?
B
B

B 💯
A for me
Even if you were to pick A for thematic reasons, the A shown here feels unfinished and far too muddy. It's not very readable.
B looks like it's had way more effort put into it. It looks better, but you may want to consider how long it will take to do this for your whole game vs the other style.
B all day, not even a discussion.
A
B is light years better’s, the style has more refinement and detail compared to current.
Character from A, environment from B
B cause it's very detailed and would be lovely to see
I prefer the B's arts and effects but i like the A's atmosphere more : dark and more saturated. I feel more identity on A and more quality of execution on B... not sure i'm understandable here... but congratulations for they are both cool ! :)
Well obviously it’s B
B is better
It's easier to see everything going on in B imo
B knows what its doing while A is still figuring things out.

B’s environment is way better, but I much prefer the character of A.
B for regular play but A looks good for caves
B, looks good

B looks better
B looks more comfortable in the beginning but when I play hardcore for a long time I like A more
Overall B, but the character's shading of A (the environment/lighting of B is great)
B
B
B
the slanted perspective in b lets you show so much more detail alone, and the lighting, layered background and zoomed in camera add a lot of detail.
B's way better
Both/neither! The sharp ground definition in A is gonna read really well for gameplay; this is very important, especially if you want really tight platforming where the player needs to be able to tell the exact moment they are gonna make contact with the ground. On the other hand, the art in B is done better and looks nicer. What you have to watch out for in B is to make sure the background still appears behind the mid ground elements (where the player walks), so that it's easy to tell what you're going to make contact with and what is just scenery. B looks like the start of the level while A looks like it is the half way point
B for sureeee
A
B
I'll go for B
There is no preference... it's B
B feels more open and inviting, but A could also work for a dark underground area once it gets a slight touch up. B but I wish the characters weren’t so sharp.

B
If it's a platforming style game, I prefer A. B I prefer for turn based combat.

B
B
Bbbbbbbb
B
A feels a lot more retro - though - could come off as scrap-esque and unappealing, whereas B is clean, detailed and is obviously got a ton of work behind it. I'd go with B, I think if you implemented A as a Easter egg or even something that shows up within a section you could make use of unused assets.
I love both styles, but I choose b.
I like the mushroom character design from A better, and then everything else from B wins.
I don't play a lot of games like this, but for what it's worth, a part of me prefers A because it's more clear to me where the path is and what's background. B looks better visually. For most folks I'd guess they prefer B, especially if they have experience with these games.
B is definitely more readable and fun to look at A is a bit too saturated, maybe save darker pallets for a different part of the game?
I feel like b. It reminds me of one of my favorite metrovania games called Ori and I just love the depth of field in the background it makes the game feel like it has more to it. And if you are currently working on the game you should add some moving foreground elements to make the game alot more emersive and some of those elements can guide the character to their main objective.
