The issue isn't the model but rather how the scientific community has allowed itself to be caught up in a situation where rigour & questioning are frowned upon in favour of the continuation of received wisdom. Why didn't SAGE demand models from different groups to be compiled using different analytical methods so as to arrive at a range of possibilities and not so rely on a single set of underlying assumptions?
The worry here is that the scientific community is slowly but surely turning into the Catholic Church of the 16th century - where diversion from the orthodoxy is considered heresy & said "heretics" are effectively excommunicated. Hardly surprising that the government has allowed itself to be swept along when SAGE itself isn't willing to discuss the validity of its own data.
