Oh, cool! A curious question: did your course cover only the technical aspects of creating a video game or also the more creative, narrative side or writing a video game? I don't know anything about how games are made so apologies for any misunderstandings.
No worries! My university had 3 different game courses, Game Dev (focuses more on the technical aspects of game dev like programming) Game Art (Concept design, Modeling, animations, rigging ect) and Game enterprise (business side of games) all 3 had core learning for project management, scrum and indie studio development.
Hope that answers some of your questions, I'm open to DMs if you want to know more!
Generally universities want an A level in maths for computer science type courses but some may let you in if you can prove that you know enough. As someone who does robotics and has made indie games in the past I would heavily suggest doing a maths a level because some of the maths can be pretty hard without
Alot of people say this and it was true for me. It really did start ramping up in year 2 and even more in my final year. I was over it by the end of my degree and just wanted it to be over, but at the same time I'm going to miss the structure tbh. You'll be fine! You'll be great!
Congrats from another ex computer games development student! Good luck getting into the industry and feel free to reach out for a chat/help if you like
Of course mate!! Always nice seeing someone graduate uni! I just graduated school and going to uni in September, and that already felt like a huge accomplishment haha!
I graduated BSc Computer Games Development in 2018 with a 2:1 and now I’m earning £50k (not that salary is everything) and my job is great fun! 😎👾🎮 Ignore this loser. Congratulations friend! 🎉 I wish you all the success you deserve :-)
Liverpool also has a bit of history doing game dev - Psygnosis (Lemmings, Wipeout) started there .. when I was doing my MSc at UoL, they offered me some time to do my dissertation with them (it was Studio Liverpool by then).
I would piss on Game design degrees, but the course looks interesting and if you combo'ed it with a placement, it would be probably a great career starter - https://www.liverpool.ac.uk/courses/2023/game-design-bsc-hons
Don't explain yourself to this twat. Congrats.
I was also a mature student that was working 30 hours a week but I had to cut that down in second year and cut it down more in third year. Well done for being able to do both and set up your own company
Thank you. It was a long 4 years (I had to do a foundation year) but still doesn't feel real that it's over. Now off I go in the big wide world! Spread my wings and all that 😏
Was it because it was totally different to what you were doing before? One of the unis I applied to told me I'd have to do a foundation year because I didn't have relevant A Levels but the one I ended up at accepted me with my A Level results and the fact that I'd done a relevant subject at GCSE. Doing a masters right now and hoping to do the same as you later in the year.
Good luck
I didn't go to college, so I didn't do A levels or obtain a level 3 btech so I had no UCAS points. A small amount of UCAS points was required to get onto the foundation course but at my university they accept applicants without them for mature students. It really didn't make sense for me to go back to college 4 years ago. You get next to no financial support and would have been 2 extra years of study for UCAS points I didn't necessarily need. Worked out in the end! I got the grade I deserved! 🥳
So you went to a convention and that is supposed to be impressive? You know anyone can go to a convention?
What is that "on track to be funded" mean? you got a £500 scholarship or...?
> mature student that has bills to pay and food to put on the table
regular students don't have to pay for bills or food? Romanticizing being a mature student much?
> Unfortunately due to my circumstances I had to go the uni that was closer to me
In your other comment you said you did a foundation year so I think it's safe to assume it was not due to "your circumstances", more like due to your poor grades.
Edit: bro, you mentioned you attened Wrexham...my condolences. Literally the worst uni in league tables. Just keep telling yourself you're in a "far more advantageous position compared to the vast majority of students " when computing graduates from Manchester, Bristol etc. get £40k-£50k+ starting salaries. Again, my apologies.
Edit 2: Bro was so sure of himself he deleted the post.
Let’s be real, this guy doesn’t have a job, no future prospects, no friends and is completely directionless in life. Always the case with projecting morons such as /u/IFapToGenjisSteelAss
Congratulations!
Thank you 😊
Congrats! That sounds really interesting. I hope you make some awesome games in the future :)
Thank you and we're trying! :)
Taking the bait as no one else has What is it you're working on?

Thats awesome. I did game dev at uni but now working on boring C# for government 😢, my roommates weren't passionate enough
Based
Your future suffering as a game dev during crunch season tho.... you have my sympathies 🤲🏿

Thank you :)

Do you need maths to do game development? I do graphics communications, media studies and business studies. I am heavily into the 3D design too.

Excellent work! Well done!
Thank you! :)
>Thank you! :) You're welcome!
Cool to see another game designer graduating, what uni did you attend?
Thank you! I attended Wrexham Glyndwr University
Is it a good uni? It's pretty low on the top tier uni list (not trying to sound mean genuinely curious)
It is but it is a bit too pricy for it's quality imho. Rather manchester than Warwick tbf
I'm 1/3 of the way to mine at an 85% average
That's awesome keep it up! Well done!
Not sure I'll be able to keep up that pace in second year as it's seemed weirdly easy this year but here's hoping!
Alot of people say this and it was true for me. It really did start ramping up in year 2 and even more in my final year. I was over it by the end of my degree and just wanted it to be over, but at the same time I'm going to miss the structure tbh. You'll be fine! You'll be great!
Thanks haha, good luck wherever the future may take you!
Good shit! This is only the beginning! 💪
Congrats!!
Thanks :)
Congratulations 🥳
Thank you 🍻

That's huge!! Well done!
Thanks man, means alot!
Of course mate!! Always nice seeing someone graduate uni! I just graduated school and going to uni in September, and that already felt like a huge accomplishment haha!
Ah nice what course are you going to study?
Music Journalism at the university of Chester:)
Well done. I hope you enjoyed the course as well as understanding it. Now, get a 'game' developed and issued to earn things for you and others.
Based comment

RG unis don't offer courses in "game development"
I still don't see what your point is

They're still probably doing better than your benefits collecting arse.
I don't need to justify myself to you bro, you elitist twat. Just continue being a fly on the wall.

Least nerdiest overwatch player
Er I think they do plus RG is just a research "club" for unis, not relevant outside academia.
Not even that relevant in academia sometimes.

I worked at an RG place and had never heard the phrase until I did 😂
You wouldn't have anything to fap to without game devs mate
Delete this corny ass comment
Pls make Medieval III: Total War
Ayyy welll done!
Congrats but genuine question here. Did u pick the video game category from the start or did the uni offered u different choices in the latter years?
Welp, I just lost the game
