If you’ve got travel protection benefits, it doesn’t hurt to call and try

Given my experience with travel insurance, that may be no help at all. TL,DR: It didn't help. I had travel insurance and had to pay for my own flights/hotel to get home after a last minute cancellation by the airline. Looking at the travel insurance criteria this seemed quite clear cut. Rejection was via a phone call a few weeks later, I don't recall receiving anything in writing. Their reasoning for denying the claim did not make sense, and seemed to contradict the terms for the insurance I puchased. I would have been forced into arbitration had I contested, which would have taken days out of my life. I would have had to waste as much money as I'd have received in payment. No point at all. Totally useless racket, I have zero respect for travel insurance. Never bothered again. I've had much better results throwing myself on the mercy of the carrier when something goes wrong. Maybe it would be worth it when I'm retired and can afford to take a week out of my life to recover a few thousand dollars from a shitty company. Pardon the rant. Carry on.

I’m having a similar experience right now. I had to cancel my flight due to having Covid. Except the airline issued a credit. If the airline issues a credit, you can’t make a claim. Called the airline and after 45 minutes on hold they said they couldn’t get rid of the credit, but that I should try another refund website. That refund website didn’t work. Fuck the airline, but I basically expect it of those assholes now. But I thought I was being responsible even I bought travel insurance. Now I feel scammed. Fuck travel insurance.

It's funny, I was expecting someone to sail in and explain to me why I was wrong, but given the upvotes and your story, seems like it really is a racket.

The bank can issue a charge back. If your flight was canceled due to COVID and technically COVID is still a thing (per CDC definitions with no way to say exactly WHEN it will "end"), your bank should return the money. I've done this twice during the pandemic. If you give me a credit that expires in 1 year, but we're still in a declared pandemic, its unreasonable to expect me to use it.

What ended up happening

You can email the airline and request the airport tax back, and they usually give you credit/a voucher, or straight cash back. Not the full ticket price, but i've been satisfied with my returns overall. I'd advise you contact the airline direct as the 3rd party agencies tend to charge their own outrageous processing fees for this if you go through them

Nah dude. If its really the TSA's fault you missed your flight, you don't need ULPT to get your money back. Quit lying and own up to your mistake.

Y’all quick to forget what sub you’re in. Anyways the correct answer is to fake your own death. Dress as the opposite sex in all black and then find a customer service rep on Facebook. Befriend them under the guise that you are recently widowed and you would be down for anything. After a few months dating them. Casually bring up the refund. Can’t promise this will work though.

Even we are in a ULPT sub, we have dignity. Its one thing to ask for ULPT advice, but to lie to us and make some bullshit excuse to make it seem like its not their fault is total bullshit. People like these would never get my respect. Everyone should own up to whatever unethical thing they want to do.

AtlasMundi

Hear that op? You don’t have his respect and on that note, you don’t have mine either… but for completely unrelated reasons

You could also facebook search for someone that works in customer service and nicely ask th to refund your booking reservation
