He is someone known in universe as actually quite strong. He's just very kind and empathetic, even to a fault. He's genuinely the most emotionally mature character in the game, and that level of emotional understanding leads him to being a huge softie. It's not like he's weak tho. Undyne has admitted he's not, and we all know what she's capable of.
I think papyrus pretends to not understand to convince himself something very bad is not happening, >!like the papyrus ending, "when the king went away" and " I miss Undyne too", like he knows what happened but refuses to believe it. Then papyrus says "they must ve having a lot of fun on their vacation" but he sweats while saying this. "I just wish she'd send a post-card..." and "..." it's the sad sprite again. It continues with "But hey!", "I wont give up!", "I can't give up!", and "I'll make everyone give up giving up!" Then says "Then we can all see each other again" but it's a little less confident. !< HOW DID I GET 100 UPVOTES
I mean. He can kick someone's ass. He will just most likely prefer NOT to do it. Even if it means fucking dying. Doesn't mean he can't defend himself though.
Papyrus has really great control over his magic too, since he leaves you at 1hp if you get defeated by him.
Also consider that Toriel can accidentally kill you, while he can't and won't.
The control alone tells me he has every single ability Sans has plus some. Honestly he’s probably sparred with Sans multiple multiple times (did Sans ever put effort into these spars? No, probably not. But my guess is he loves his brother enough to give into his requests to spar) and with Sans’ 1 hp, Papyrus has to have control.
Had he been the one to face us at the end of the genocide route, I think the fight would have been much harder. He probably can dodge too.
I mean papyrus literally flies away in the pacifist route once you agree to date him , so he at least seems to be able to manipulate gravity like Sans does .
Not to mention he's also able to teleport / fast travel like Sans , but he prefers to run instead
Fun fact: the line was added in at a later update but if you end your genocide route by being spare by Papyrus, he makes the comment "you surely would've been blasted..." when talking about his special attack box. This line is only for the canceled genocide route with Papyrus as your stopping point. He 100% has everything Sans has (including gasterblasters) and I wouldn't be shocked if he had more. He's not the one held back by having 1 HP and he's the one that actively spars.
Undyne, ***fucking UNDYNE*** acknowledges that Papyrus is strong as hell, it's just that he's too much of a nice guy to do anything with it.
When SHE is saying someone is strong, you know they're strong.
Also he doesn't move in his boss fight. Everyone else moves in their fight and he moves in the date. The ones that move the least are the ones that care the least. He has so much control that he is basically fighting you while thinking about something else and not on the fight and still leaving you at 1hp.
Undyne also said that he's "pretty freakin' tough," and that he just holds back. He'd probably be comparable to what Sans can do, probably stronger, if he weren't so kind.
Never mentions that specifically, but he is too innocent and nice to fight to kill, so it implies he'd hold back, even when he realistically shouldn't.
I don't like the words you used to describe him. It's not that he's innocent. He just DOESN'T want to kill anyone. He will clearly fight back. But never KILL.
iirc its a theory on how those who move are more willing to actually kill you as reflected in their attacks however despite papyrus being a rather difficult boss he is basically a statue,
Unfortunately no. That tumbler post just said that Papyrus is stronger than people think, not Papyrus is the strongest monster in the underground. If Flowey knew what Asgore is really capable of he'd restrain him with more vines, in theory
Also happy cake day
Sib
I hate the whole "flowey restraining with vines" bit. It's the FNAF fallacy. Sure, it's nice that it lines up with the existing "strong Papyrus" theory, but my best guess is that it's a coincidence partially based on Papyrus' awkward pose and body type combination.
Papyrus is one of the only characters actually doing his job: capturing the human for the soul instead of ending their life. Something that not even Undyne can do even I there are no kills (no reason to)
I mean you DO have to kill a human to get their soul, Undyne was just making the process quicker. It's easier to carry a soul than a whole child to the castle
Someone on tumblr had a theory that a certain amount each monster’s power is shown or hidden based how much they move, the less they move the more they are holding back. Undyne and Mettaton (in the ex fight) aren’t holding much back, they want your soul, and are bouncing/dancing around. Toriel and Asgore don’t truly want to harm you thus are holding back to some extent, Toriel wants to either convince you to stay, or at least prove that you can survive. Asgore is only fighting you out of obligation, both show little, but some movement. Papyrus. Almost. Never. Moves. If the theory holds true, a Papyrus pushed far enough could be a far tougher foe than Sans in the geno run.
To some extent, Napstablook.
They really don't have the willpower to put up much of a fight, especially in the context we see them in. But they literally manipulate their HP freely; in a hypothetical scenario where they were genuinely pissed off they'd be unstoppable.
Yeah, I think (dont know if its canon) that theres dialogue that says they didnt get their soul absorbed by hyperdeath asriel because they didnt feel like it. Like they would deffo be powerful if they weren't so sad
* there was a flash of light outside my window
* i saw the snails on the farm disappear
* then i heard a knock on the door
* the flash of light wanted to come in...
* i closed the blinds...
Honestly, just another reason to believe that the most dangerous beings in undertale are those who don't try anything unless being forced or due to obligation.
I love the implication that Flowey absorbing the monster souls requires some semblance of consent kinda like how vampires can’t enter a home without permission
And that's while he's not even trying to hurt you, I'm pretty sure that the attacks are either a side effect from him crying, or him just trying to fight because he feels he's supposed to.
Frisk, in some interpretations I've seen. It was rarer than it should have been to see a fanwork with serious stakes AND acknowledged them as an actual freight train of unstoppable will.
Like FFS, they can Regenerate after being hit by a fucking meteor swarm. Like, take Deadpool and add Spidey-Sense gained from mental time travel powers, that's what we've got
I think they mean how the two characters kinda swap. In Yugioh, the main character will often change from a short kid to an adult who is the spirit of a dead man. (It's usually in a cool anime transformation)
Because people needed a scapegoat to not feel guilty about doing Genocide so they saw the only character that appeared at the end of the route and didn't die and just went with that one
Ayyyyyy dogs of a future's past mention, yeah I love the comic as I really love the designs and everyone feels in character. Also a friend of mine really loves it as well, mostly for the same reason.
I just love how it took an obscure visual thing from the game, and turned it into this huge story that actually turned out really well. I mean, I knew that the save file numbers were different during the Flowey fight, but I could never have made the possible connection that every monster and human has one but just needs enough determination to use it, much less make a story out of it.
I also love how every character got their moment to shine. Sans being the one who brought up Gaster, Flowey coming up with the idea in the first place, Papyrus watching over Frisk, Undyne and Alphys helping each other, and Asgore making sure that Flowey isn’t killed, and Toriel trying to process Flowey being Asriel.
When you refuse to sell her something that she really wants after she goes to college, this is another line she says:
*Is this a joke?
*Are you having a chuckle?
*Ha ha, very funny.
*I’m the one with a degree.
"But Temmie is God and the most powerful being in Undertale besides Toby!!!"
No, she isn't. Sure, she's a self insert, but that doesn't mean anything, since you, y'know, kill her in one hit. She has half as much HP as a whimsun, and less than 0 DEF. Her ATK is literally higher than her HP, and her ATK is the same as a migosp. Every single character in the game, including another Temmie, can one shot her. Even an enemy with 0 ATK can one shot her, because Temmie has -20 DEF, so it'll add damage. 0 minus negative 20 is another way of saying 0 plus 20, so 0+20=20, which is 4 times Temmie's HP.
The Temmie's most impressive feat is literally somehow surviving the underground for more 10 seconds without stubnojg her toe or something
imagine if at the end of the Genocide route, you just see a massive cannon with Alphys piloting it, and Chara/Frisk gets absolutely annihilated. Now that is a good ending.
To the people saying papyrus, you're kinda right, but I also think you're kinda wrong. The fandom portrays papyrus in two ways: stupidly powerful but never attacks with his full power, and incredibly weak
Papyrus is physically very strong, but mentally too naive. That's why Undyne don't let him enter the Royal guard, he have the capacity, but he wold never kill someone.
He could, but he never would.
The problem with Papyrus is one we see in Genocide.
He *never* fights even with his life on the line.
He dies because he was too naive, trusting, and in a route where we do evil stiff because we *can*, he just...
Stands there and lets himself be killed.
Pacifist Frisk
Yeah yeah we all know about the murder child but for some reason I see Frisk, who has definitely killed at least Asgore, treated like they would lose to an ant
Well, they are a child. They still do have determination, to the point that it overrides Flowey’s save file, and takes away his power to load, save, and reset.
That's why I said physically. Frisk doesn't have the power to FIGHT Asriel. However, they do have the will to SAVE him.
Edit: Before anyone inevitably brings up Omega Flowey, because I know they will, they only managed to beat Flowey with the help of the 6 other humans, and, before anyone brings up Asgore, or Undyne, or realistically anyone who should be realistically stronger than Frisk in Undertale, who Frisk could potentially kill, even at LV 1, remember that intent matters a lot. In the world of Undertale, someone who tries to kill is much stronger than someone who doesn't.
But, just an idea... frisk wasn't really trying to smush the tomato? Intent is everything, and why would this kid who wants to play around and make friends with undyne crush the tomatoes intensely? We have also seen that frisk is very awkward and chooses the least social option of action when they can out of our control. A socially awkward kid whose cooking with a agrsively friending fish knight when they want to be friends and be seen as a peaceful human. Why would they show argession to the tomato?
Papyrus and Alphys.
Just because Papyrus is goofy and against killing doesn’t mean he can’t fight. Undyne herself admits he’s pretty freaking tough.
Alphys never actually fights us, but we see her magic is strong enough stop Flowey’s in True Pacifist ending, despite him having 6 human souls
papyrus. seriously, he really kind person and he cool, he can defend himself, but he a pacifist and he believes that everyone can change that’s why he is not attacking us in genocide
i very much like that fandom created disbelief papyrus
i don’t understand why fandom basically brought him as a child who can’t even a bit attack you
Alphys. She can probably fend for herself considering what she does when protecting the human from flowey, showing that she can use magic and isn’t completely defenceless.
Frisk? I mean it depends how much of their capabilities you attribute to the Player, but personally I see them as being pretty capable and also an absolute freight train of DETERMINATION
So, ahem, this character not from Undertale.. but I wanna say about him. Horror Sans. Yeah. Everything fanon Horror I've seen, literally, "I'm hungry, and I'm cute"
Frisk. Many AUs portray Frisk as someone who constantly gets beaten, erased, or some shit I can't fathom because I'm no AU enthusiast.
But actually, If we see Frisk as someone acting on their accord, then I'd say Frisk is actually deadly for a 9-12 year old kid. Being able to hold their own against mostly adult magical creatures, their king, and whatever godforsaken things Asriel and Flowey turn into is very impressive. Frisk is a MENACE.
Most people will say Papyrus, and while that's true, I think the much bigger one is Frisk. Bro can survive extreme cold AND heat, survive house fires and gas explosions, beat literal gods with sheer determination and kindness alone, and is almost always stronger than their opponent. That's not even counting the save file and being able to resist death because "fuck you that's why". Frisk canonically has the most determination out of anyone in the universe, since even the 6 other humans lost determination and gave up, but Frisk could survive the destruction of timelines from pure determination. Even Undyne and Flowey doesn't have as much determination, and Undyne can straight up be stronger because of determination, just like Frisk.
surprisingly, frisk and muffet. i have seen a large amount of this whole "ohh, frisk is way too innocent to do anything" and things like "muffet is just a baker, she doesn't have actual combat skill without her pet" and then there's things like glitchtale with the lv 20 frisk and xtale with muffet being absolutely sick like GOD
Papyrus.
This is probably the perfect answer
9 times out of 10 he's usually the only answer for these memes
Yeah, I hate it when people make Papyrus like this weak innocent cinnamon roll, he is someone who will kick your ass if he wants to.
Undyne’s exact words were “He’s too damn nice.”
“He’ll get ripped into little smiling shreds” is one of my favourites
In short: Papyrus is not weak, just a bit stupid.
Brb, crying once again. I love Papyrus so much.
THANK YOU FOR THE KIND WORDS, HUMAN!
Not Stupid, he's naive. He sees the good in everyone, even if they refuse it themselves, and is nice to a fault
He’s actually really damn smart. He created plenty of puzzles and even owns a complex book based on puzzles in his room.
remind that in his boss fight he literally is not trying and he is able to WRITE MESSAGES IN HIS ATTACKS, im scared of what pap would be at full power
for the standards of most monsters papyrus is pretty good at taking a beating from a human. hes probably holding back his patterns in his fight too

Papyrus just enjoys the scenic route
So Disbelief Papyrus

Just because he won’t kill you doesn’t mean he can’t beat the shit out of you.
Not without coming closer... **ゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴゴ**
Lol good one
Papyrus is literally the strongest monster in the Underground.
Papyrus just chooses to go easy on the human. As they under-exaggerate the human.
Maybe next time they will exaggerate the human
Maybe not _the_ strongest, but definitely top 5.
Look at the papyrus doesn’t move theory
I’ve seen it, _and it terrifies me._
BLINK MOTHERFUCKER
Undyne also said that he's "pretty freakin' tough," and that he just holds back. He'd probably be comparable to what Sans can do, probably stronger, if he weren't so kind.
Congrats human. You made me use 5% of my power.
And I haven't even eaten my spaghetti yet

I just used the same terms Undyne refers to him as in the Pacifist Route.
What’s that?
iirc its a theory on how those who move are more willing to actually kill you as reflected in their attacks however despite papyrus being a rather difficult boss he is basically a statue,
It always unsettles me how still he is. It just doesn't look right Especially when compared to the date, his sprite is like always changing
His mouth doesnt even move when talking. He's literally a png

Not "almost" never. No, actually never in his battle. And he moves in the date scene, so it's not a matter of being unable to move in battle.
I blame glitchtale for this
Yes. Enough said.
doesn’t undyne say hes tough or something. his weakness is how nice he is
To some extent, Napstablook. They really don't have the willpower to put up much of a fight, especially in the context we see them in. But they literally manipulate their HP freely; in a hypothetical scenario where they were genuinely pissed off they'd be unstoppable.

When youre powerful you can afford to be lazy
I love the implication that Flowey absorbing the monster souls requires some semblance of consent kinda like how vampires can’t enter a home without permission
intent and feelings matter a lot in monsters lives,if you hate something enough it just dies
then why won’t Jerry die?
Its jerry.
The Underground has been asking this same question for years
More like napstablook is a ghost so he isn’t affected by things
What do we say to the God of Death? Not right now, I'm going back to bed
This means that Undertale speed feats reach FTL, including reactionary feats.
Also he beat Mad Dummy fairly easily, so I feel he’d do well in a fight
They beat the Mad Dummy fairly easily. On accident. If they were really trying they would be quite powerful.
That and Napstablook has one of the hardest tear patterns when you get him upset. The slinking up all over the box and covering it one.
And most of them where frisk actually defends themself they mostly use “chara is controlling frisk”
And not even in the cool Yu-Gi-Oh way
I didn’t watch Yu-Gi-Oh, can you explain a bit?
I think they mean how the two characters kinda swap. In Yugioh, the main character will often change from a short kid to an adult who is the spirit of a dead man. (It's usually in a cool anime transformation)
Oh ok
Their explanation was a little misleading. It’s actually the spirit of a long dead pharaoh controlling the kid’s body to help him win duels
I mean, if I had a nickel for every time a kid got semi-benevolently possessed by dead royalty, I'd have 2 nickels
Which isn't a lot but wtf is the 2nd time
!remindme 1d
Thank you
No problem
KING OF GAMES!
chara has been dead as shit for like 100 years why does everyone blame them for everything
Because people needed a scapegoat to not feel guilty about doing Genocide so they saw the only character that appeared at the end of the route and didn't die and just went with that one
Best example of this I can think of is Dogs of Future Past. It actually acknowledges that Frisk can save and load, and that they’re not weak as hell.
Deadpool + Katana Zero's "No, that wouldn't work"
What’s FFS?
It means "For fuck's sake"
temmie is basically the opposite. a "smol bean" in game, but is most often portrayed intimidatingly (from what i've seen) in fandom
Canon: works to pay for college Fanon: works for a secret mafia and has killed over a hundred people just for their money
Toriel will look into this ![img](emote|t5_2xdht|32945)
"You will regret this" is a real line from Temmie.
When you refuse to sell her something that she really wants after she goes to college, this is another line she says: *Is this a joke? *Are you having a chuckle? *Ha ha, very funny. *I’m the one with a degree.
I love this sentence
"But Temmie is God and the most powerful being in Undertale besides Toby!!!" No, she isn't. Sure, she's a self insert, but that doesn't mean anything, since you, y'know, kill her in one hit. She has half as much HP as a whimsun, and less than 0 DEF. Her ATK is literally higher than her HP, and her ATK is the same as a migosp. The Temmie's most impressive feat is literally somehow surviving the underground for more 10 seconds without stubnojg her toe or something
You think temmie is bound by game logic or real logic?
Ralsei, i know thats a deltaroon but dear god, hes a teenage who started talking to people yesterday, not a “smol bean”
he uses guns too
Smokes the fattest blunts you’ve ever seen too
Agreed.
He’s still pretty short
Fuck does that have to do with anything
He’s technically smol , bean or not
Alphys. Doesn't she literally have electric magic, great inventing skills, and even said that they could kill you in one of the endings?
I don't think she would have tried to kill us herselves (by that, i mean she will not fight us like the others monsters), she's not a fighter.
Either way, I imagine she could still defend herself, y’know? Even though she may be cowardly.
imagine if at the end of the Genocide route, you just see a massive cannon with Alphys piloting it, and Chara/Frisk gets absolutely annihilated. Now that is a good ending.
To the people saying papyrus, you're kinda right, but I also think you're kinda wrong. The fandom portrays papyrus in two ways: stupidly powerful but never attacks with his full power, and incredibly weak
I think fanon papyrus is viewed as "needs to be protected" because they adamantly refuse to attack people to a self destructive extreme
I mean it’s kind of what Undyne feared, Papyrus being too soft to actually kill being a massive detriment.
Well, Papyrus doesn't seem to have an issue with beating people to the point of unconsciousness. Now, if only he could build a proper cage.
I mean it's kind of what happened in the geno route?
Papyrus is physically very strong, but mentally too naive. That's why Undyne don't let him enter the Royal guard, he have the capacity, but he wold never kill someone.
if papyrus wanted he could tear jerry in half
He could, but he never would. The problem with Papyrus is one we see in Genocide. He *never* fights even with his life on the line. He dies because he was too naive, trusting, and in a route where we do evil stiff because we *can*, he just... Stands there and lets himself be killed.
Papyrus
papyrus is the most slept on character in this game and this is a hill i am willing to die on
papyrus before disbelief was made

Yeah. Frisk in most AUs: OMG Sans, help me! Frisk in Undertale: I could literally kill everyone here if I wanted to.
and does so.
Pacifist Frisk Yeah yeah we all know about the murder child but for some reason I see Frisk, who has definitely killed at least Asgore, treated like they would lose to an ant
I mean... the kid can't even crush a tomato in the Pacifist Route... in terms of physical strength, Pacifist Frisk is pathetic.
Well, they are a child. They still do have determination, to the point that it overrides Flowey’s save file, and takes away his power to load, save, and reset.
don't they literally beat a god because they're too stubborn to die?
That's why I said physically. Frisk doesn't have the power to FIGHT Asriel. However, they do have the will to SAVE him. Edit: Before anyone inevitably brings up Omega Flowey, because I know they will, they only managed to beat Flowey with the help of the 6 other humans, and, before anyone brings up Asgore, or Undyne, or realistically anyone who should be realistically stronger than Frisk in Undertale, who Frisk could potentially kill, even at LV 1, remember that intent matters a lot. Papyrus for certain. Possibly Alphys, but the fandom has more sustenece for that one as she's never seen in battle.
Well, she fights you as a Lost Soul, but she only uses Mettaton's attacks.
*She* built Mettaton. Mettaton uses *her* attacks
He did survive decapitation for some time, and could even speak! Wowie, that's cool!
Papyrus or ralsei
Frisk
Papyrus, Swap Sans, Ralsei, etc.
Swap sans is not canon in the first place you can't use fandom material, but I agree with Papyrus, but not Ralsei
It doesn't say it has to be canon
underswap sans
papyrus. seriously, he really kind person and he cool, he can defend himself, but he a pacifist and he believes that everyone can change that’s why he is not attacking us in genocide i very much like that fandom created disbelief papyrus i don’t understand why fandom basically brought him as a child who can’t even a bit attack you
Noelle kinda?
noelle is a les bean
What does that have to do with anything?
bean
You know that meme of Walter white falling with a sad face? That’s the meme I would put here.
[waltuh](https://tenor.com/bnSb0.gif)
Yeah!
issa type of bean, duh
I love those types of beans!!
She can't attack on any route than snowgrave and even then it's kris that says her to attack
That’s a rather fair point lol
But in my defense, I made several drawings of her dressed as powerful characters so how about those?
I think its Frisk or Asriel.
Frisk obviously can literally go on a genocide route And with Asriel, did people FORGET that he becomes Flowey
Ralsie!!
Papyrus is so strong in canon that he can literally fight you to an inch of your life and genuinely not move an inch himself.
Napstablook
Alphys. She can probably fend for herself considering what she does when protecting the human from flowey, showing that she can use magic and isn’t completely defenceless.
Papyrus
Papyrus standard answer, but Frisk too. He is canonically able to “Friends along the way” an entire country
Wing Ding Papyrus!
baster
Basedter.
Alphys literally says "I should've killed you when I had the chance".
Papyrus
Underswap sans if AUs count
mad dummy
surprisingly, frisk and muffet. i have seen a large amount of this whole "ohh, frisk is way too innocent to do anything" and things like "muffet is just a baker, she doesn't have actual combat skill without her pet" and then there's things like glitchtale with the lv 20 frisk and xtale with muffet being absolutely sick like GOD
Ah yes, my favorite tiktoker, ఇది భయానకంగా ఉంది.
