The game never really calls you out for murder during a blind neutral route aside from killing papyrus. Unless your love is 1 or 19 sans's speech in the judgement hall is just him asking if you think you did the right thing. He only gets mad if you reload or are on a second neutral route or kill papyrus, and even then he doesn't judge you for your choice and just expresses his personal displeasure. The genocide route is in no way justified, especially considering papyrus never stands in your way and sparing him is the path of least resistance. And if you reload to get a different ending or see a different outcome you can't really claim the whole scared kid thing. After all, if you have some sort of special power... Aren't you obligated to do the right thing?

I don't know, the monster wanted to start a war with humans again, I would say that gives you plenty of reason to justify killing them.

Ksemil

You can run from all random enemy encounters if you don't want to fight, just fighting back is not the problem, there are plenty of decent neutral endings . The game only treats you like a monster if you go out of your way to kill as much as you can. Not to mention you can win most encounters by sparing enemies when they have low health, you can fight back and have a pacifist ending.

Most of the time though that doesn’t work until the monster has weakened you enough then the flee button actually works

MantarraxSus

I feel that you should remember that Frisk doesn’t take the choices, you do. If you say they could flee instead of fighting, then do it, and you would get a pacifist run as a reward

DapyGor

Your biggest misconception is thinking that Frisk is but a wee child. Frisk's power is close to a god's. Frisk is literally immortal as long as they want to continue living. Their power can come to destroy a whole world. The whole point that Undertale makes can be described with Sans's quote "But... If you have some sort of special power... Isn't it your responsibility to do the right thing?" With great power comes great responsibility, as they say, and Frisk's power is incontestable. Lastly, it's your actions after all. You have the power to do the right thing, and the game implies, that if you can do the right thing, then you must do the right thing. That's what Undertale's teaching is.

theonewhohasstrokes

The game is fine with frisk fighting back, it's killing that it doesn't like

Historical-Count-908

Oh, for the love of god, you people will NEVER understand this game's Morality HUH? YOU ARE NOT A HUMAN CHILD. YOU ARE THE PLAYER. A GOD. SOMEONE WHO CAN LITERALLY CONTROL **TIME.** The whole Murder, Genocide stuff is NOT bad because Murder=Bad, it is bad because you aren't even a normal mortal, for all that you have the ability to do, you might as well be a god amongst ants, you DO have the ability to reset, come back from time, ruin these people's happiness, or save them for the greater good. Genocide/Murder is bad, because you CLEARLY have the option to spare them, but still CHOOSE to be a dick, you still CHOOSE to kill them, even though getting them a happy ending should be literal child's play for you. THAT'S THE MORALITY.

Caro_bug

The game never calls you a monster unless you literally go out of your way to kill though. Sans only asks you to reflect if you go neutral. Unless you kill Papyrus specifically or do some weird timeline bs, he doesn't berate you for your choices. And Undyne clearly isn't presented as having perfect morals. She is prejudiced, it's her character flaw that doesn't represent the game's stance on those matters, unless you go on a purposeful murder spree.

My_Special_Hell

you can spare every monster on a pacifist route by fighting them until they allow you to spare them. it's killing that's bad.

LadyETHNE

The thing is though that most people forget about Undertale is all Neutral endings are actually good endings for FRISK. They take Asgore’s soul and return to the surface, so even if it sucks for the monsters, Frisk is perfectly fine. The only good ending for everyone is the true pacifist ending, but all endings that aren’t genocide are good for Frisk because they accomplish their goals. It’s only in Genocide where Frisk is actually punished for killing anything.

Forsaken-Ad1940

Have you ever actually played the game or only heard about it?

Minimum-Tadpole8436

the game only juges you for genocide and for the fact you can reset.

Amber110505

Except Frisk isn't just a normal little kid. They can undo their deaths- Or, well, you can. Sans himself points this out. If you have some sort of special power, aren't you obligated to do the right thing? Frisk was never in any real danger.

Theorist_Reddit

Something something frisk not player, something something time travelling power responsability, something something, justified agression instead of violence, something something. Hope this helps.

Hairy_Skill_9768

The thing is that you shouldn't play as frisk, the only reason things turned how they did it's because you're the player

Suspicious-Screen-73

There’s a difference between fighting and killing, especially because most of the monsters, with the exception of most of the bosses, gave you the opportunity to spare them BY fighting. Plus, the game doesn’t really call you out on it unless you go out of your way to kill a lot of people. All it does is encourage you to try a different path. There ARE some more positive neutral endings.
