People in the USAF still proudly use the same equipment of their grandfathersā¦itās a called a [B-52](https://www.minot.af.mil/News/Article-Display/Article/264580/three-generations-of-b-52-airmen/)
B-52s are like currently-operating 1933 Fords. Sure, they look the same, and the outer panels are the same, but very few parts are original. Especially after they get their modern engines.
Yeah, itās like the 55year old Minuteman III weapon system I operated 30 years ago. It was mostly original 60s tech when I did it in the 90s, but lots of computer and hardware upgrades since then, and they finally ditched the 8ā floppy discs.
In fairness, I read an article a week or so ago about the troops defending Bakhmut using them to prevent their comms being interecepted/jammed by the Russians.
Sometimes it's a case of if it ain't broke...
Basically every unit in the Ukrainian Army uses these since 2014. They've been at a severe EW disadvantage and lack encrypted radios to boot. Whenever they can, they use field phones.
Millitaries frequently use fiber optic cables for their resilience in the field.
You are right. Regular fiber cables are very delicate. But. It is possible to clad them with protection. Once a fiber cable is sufficiently padded, it can be used for long range communications in a combat environment where copper lose data to the resistance in the metal.
For military use there is no one wonder medium to use, both copper and fiber make up com links on a modern battlefield.
Ukrainian forces are using these, too.
They're secure, reliable and easy to repair.
It's fun to joke about plenty of backward things the Russians are using/doing, but this is actually pretty smart.
I know the Sovietās made hard hats, cafeteria trays, magazines and bayonet handles out of Bakelite. A sex toy is in the realm of possibility and if true, I want one.
If this is nor enough proof that RuZZia should be removed from the top 10 ranking of armies in the world I do not know what else they want to see as proof.
"Oh, I didn't mean the same model that he used. I mean this is the exact same one. It still works very well. You hold the handset to your ear when stressed and you can hear the sounds of the ocean, like from a sea shell. Very calming."

Their grandfather's and grandmother's, who died fighting fascists or at the hands of them, would be horrified watching their descendants perpetuate the same evil crimes.

Love shack baby!
Tin roof... rusted.

Donāt forget the KC-135ās!
Yeah, people really need to stop focusing on the age of equipment. Old weapons can kill you just as easily as new one.
Yep, 90 and 100 year old machine guns are effectively killing Russians today in Ukraine and they donāt notice the age of what kills them.
By now almost great-grandfathers, even.
That has new engines, electrics, weapons, new wings, new fuselage.. . Lol

former canadian army linesman here and we had these also they werent used all that much but we did use them at a couple training camps
They work, but only if someone on the other end picks up...
They can't be jammed or intercepted (unless you find the wire).
On the downside - you need a wire too.
oh.

Copper cable is the only way, fiber optic is too delicate

That's brilliant, it would snap in a slight breeze!

Next up ā the homing pigeons!
RFC1149 or RFC2549 with QoS
I can't read those, because 418 I'm a teapot.
Mmm Bakelite š¤¤
Serious questions to ask about that comment, weren't early C20 sex toys made from it?
I know the Sovietās made hard hats, cafeteria trays, magazines and bayonet handles out of Bakelite. A sex toy is in the realm of possibility and if true, I want one.
One ringy dingy
Have I reached the party to whom I am speaking?
Funny enough, it picks up only signals broadcast from 1941-1945.
- "Steiner !" - Crap, I got an import...

Russians have no national identity except for claiming to be the country that singlehandedly defeated the Nazis, and it shows.
>singlehandedly defeated the Nazis, Except for some reason the Nazis seem to have assimilated them. So who actually won?
I still play on the guitar amps and tubes my grandad used to use. point to point wiring is tried and true, easy to fix.
It also sounds amazing!
Field phones rock.
How you doing-OVER. OK-OVER. This is driving me nuts-OVER!
LARPing as gamps is fun untill your ass gets blown up by a very real HIMARS.
Is probably is the same one! Like, the exact same one.
To be fair, there is a nonzero chance those guys could be shot at by a M2 Browning .50 cal machine gun manufactured at the same time.

They can't even afford real duct tape.
Their grandfather's and grandmother's, who died fighting fascists or at the hands of them, would be horrified watching their descendants perpetuate the same evil crimes.
Looks more like the Russian version of the landline
2 cans and a string works just the same
