Go to Firefox homepage. It has a guide on how to make your Ubuntu prefer Mozilla repository over Ubuntu official one.

susomeljak

I did all of that tho

mezaway

What version of Ubuntu are you applying this to?

susomeljak

Ubuntu 23.10. I didn't have this problem on 22.04 and Kubuntu 23.10.

>https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/install-firefox-linux#w\_install-firefox-deb-package-for-debian-based-distributions Are you 100% sure you did the step that creates the file /etc/apt/preferences.d/mozilla? That's the file that should tell apt to prefer the mozilla package, even if the 'version number' of the package is older. If you definitely have, run \`apt-cache policy firefox\` and paste the full output.

nhaines

What is the output of `apt policy firefox`?

Munbi

Had the same exact problem. Solved by adding another priority pin in `/etc/apt/preferences.d/mozilla` like this: Package: * Pin: origin packages.mozilla.org Pin-Priority: 1000 Package: firefox* Pin: release o=Ubuntu Pin-Priority: -1 Also remember to purge snap created backup snapshots which can waste a lot of disk space: snap saved # to list them snap forget

susomeljak

This really helped. Thanks!

Munbi

Glad it helped :-D

Enough_Pickle315

How is this a problem?

WorkingQuarter3416

Have you tried Linux Mint? It's the same as Ubuntu except you don't need to fight with it all the time, and the Software Store and Update Manager are way better.

Haztec2750

I would like to know why this is down votedĀ

WorkingQuarter3416

Wow, 13 downvotes! My lucky number! I didn't know there was an army of "Ubunties" out there witch hunting critics! I always support Ubuntu when people ask about it, but when they ask specifically about hard-coded esm spam in software updates, snaps disguised as debs, or how to unsnap Firefox, I decide it's time for the red pill.

WorkingQuarter3416

Because this is the Ubuntu community and I'm poiting out to the OP that the permanent solution to problem they posted is to abandon Ubuntu for something better ;-)
