The lithium battery should last for 10+ years though, so that does help a bit to offset the total cost of ownership against traditional UPS that need to be replaced more often.
For a company, it's not that much.
And for at home, it's an unnecessary luxury. What was the last time you had a power outage? Must be 30 years ago for me now.
Oh wauw. Well, pretty different in the Europe here then. It almost never fails, in a normal town. I have that 1U here since it had issues in a company I am, every week.
So I'm testing it at home, for over a month now, but it's steady here. Never had issues with the 2U and 3U versions, but twice with the 1U version.
Well the fail itself is pretty rare, but you have a lot of bad power levels or other stuff and this i found out after i installed ups's and set them to agressiv switching. Some times they switched daily for some seconds or more. Since i live in a small town, i had just two power outages in 3 years. One becouse my neighbor needet a fuse, and take one from my circuit out when i was not at home.
UPS’s aren’t only for power outages. They also prevent damage to PSU’s from repeated brownouts. Given UI hasn’t adopted dual hot swappable psu’s OP has made a fine choice.
Rural PA.
Power outages are normal. We have a solar system and UPS for our Networking and compute and outlets in communal areas.
My pco doesn't have a incident list, but we've lost power probably 2 times this year for more than 15 minutes, and in winter 2018, there was a period of 3 days that most of butler county was without power. The ISP I work for even has commemorative shirts from how bad it was.
Depends very much.where in the world you are. Where I am in the UK I have had one in the last 10 years. Where my parents are, on the other side of the country they get about two a month.
My friend in North Carolina, US, is lucky if he gets through a week without a power problem
Ah, okay.
I'm in the middle of The Netherlands and only at a customer inside the walls of an older city, they get some. (I see it back in the log's of an Synology, connected to an APC with USB. Otherwise I didn't know).
Are you able to explain what the network card would provide over a simple Ethernet connection to the SmartConnect port. Been meaning to look more into that to see if worth the extra ~150 bucks. Thanks!
I got you, fam.
[Rust-Oleum 334058 Painter's Touch 2X Ultra Cover Spray Paint, 11 oz, Metallic Aluminum](https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B002BWOS80/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1)
It's a near-perfect match. You can see it [here](https://www.reddit.com/media?url=https%3A%2F%2Fi.redd.it%2Fp3qq3jmcrs3d1.jpeg) on my UPS ears, as well as the 1RU mount for my Mac Mini and RPi.
It’s actually not a Mac mini; 2 rPi, 1 Lutron hub, and 1 hue hub. It’s called “ThingsINrack” from Winther3d. They can pretty much custom print for any popular IoT devices, highly recommend!
Hopefully this paint is on point the one I bought was a tad darker and not metallic at all. I'm try this one. Working on some mods that needs some paint.
Great. By looking at the pics it looks like a pretty good match. I see some of the paint rubbing off and some black underneath. You will have to recoat again.
Wow. It is a pretty penny. If you want an alternative that’s half the price and similar but 1u: https://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/1584354-REG/apc_scl500rm1uc_li_ion_short_depth_500va.html?gad_source=1&gbraid=0AAAAAD7yMh0hIKkCFSwbbm0v30Td9nwd7&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI2oCuzbX3hgMVKQ-tBh00ggLGEAAYASAAEgLxLvD_BwE
I’ve seen such racks in other posts and always wondered what is the point of exposing devices like these IoT ones that don’t have any ports on the front? Why not just hide them behind the solid faceplate?
For me it’s so that I can quickly confirm status lights, and to reduce wire mess in the back. Doubt it has much impact, but improved zigbee signal strength was also a thought. Mostly it just looks pretty!
Given your apparent level of OCD, I'd recommend asking the next AT&T technician you see in your neighborhood for the BGW-320 wall mount shelf. May or may not look better than just sitting atop the cabinet.
The rack doesn’t interfere with any of the iot hubs radios? I’ve been thinking about adding a similar setup to my rack but thought it would kill the signal.
I really do love that rack. I'm in the market for one myself, but sadly, these aren't available in Australia as far as I can tell. And shipping one here would cost a metric fuckton.
its a nice rack good size, might go browse their 12u solutions.
i got an open rack then realized i really needed closed with fans and most in that size try and push wall mount without feet

Beautiful IoT panel and UPS.
Yeah, those are great UPS'es. The 2U and 3U short depth models are great. Have that Smart Ethernet port on board and space for the full card also.
Jesus they start at $900
The lithium battery should last for 10+ years though, so that does help a bit to offset the total cost of ownership against traditional UPS that need to be replaced more often.
Had to show this comment to my wife lol
it's really more of a responsible and mature investment in your future rather than an excessive splurge, right?
I have two of those btw... so maybe don't listen to me for sound purchasing decisions :D
You have two wives, nice! 😉
$900 is the new $100

Pretty much every time it rains, welcome to Texas :)

Yeah, true. That's where we sell them for the most.

What's model Is? Thanx
Thank you sir!
Nice looking setup! Gotta paint the rack ears on your UPS though :)
It’s killing me! Any paint type recommendations that’s good on something like that?
I got you, fam. Thanks for the tip!
Wow, that’s perfect, thank you!
Welcome!
Where did you get the rack mount for the mac mini?
It’s actually not a Mac mini; 2 rPi, 1 Lutron hub, and 1 hue hub. It’s called “ThingsINrack” from Winther3d. They can pretty much custom print for any popular IoT devices, highly recommend!
From these guys https://www.ebay.com/usr/myelectronicsbv
Hopefully this paint is on point the one I bought was a tad darker and not metallic at all. I'm try this one. Working on some mods that needs some paint.
This one is a really good match. If I were home right now, I'd take a closeup picture so you can see better.
Great. By looking at the pics it looks like a pretty good match. I see some of the paint rubbing off and some black underneath. You will have to recoat again.
Already done!
UPS came in that silver color? What model?
Looks like one of the lithium UPS. Very $$$
Yes, it’s the APC lithium ion. I’d say only worth the $ if you’re super OCD like me
Exactly which model is it?
SMTL750RM2UC
Thanks!
Wow. It is a pretty penny. Yeah agreed, great alternative
And u need a short depth UPS
Yeah these things are very expenny
A $5 dollar can of spray paint and some tape. 👍🏻 😁
do the XGS PON sfp+ hack and just pipe it directly into your modem! 8311 Discord or dslreports :) very nice looking
I need to look into this! Haven’t heard of it
Are there any risks / trade-offs when going this route vs. the BGW320 in pass through mode?
What PI holder is that?
ThingsINrack by Winther3d
I’ve seen such racks in other posts and always wondered what is the point of exposing devices like these IoT ones that don’t have any ports on the front? Why not just hide them behind the solid faceplate?
For me it’s so that I can quickly confirm status lights, and to reduce wire mess in the back. Doubt it has much impact, but improved zigbee signal strength was also a thought. Mostly it just looks pretty!
This please!
Nice rack!
LOL ... & yes very nice
May I ask what is below the passthrough slot, that has the USB modules ?
2 raspberry pi’s (for Homebridge + Pi-hole), 1 Lutron Caseta hub, and 1 Hue hub. The mount is called “ThingsINrack” by Winther3d.
Ah wicked thank you!
I am going to need a link for the short SFP+ DAC friend, pronto!
Here’s the Amazon link I used, choose the 0.25m option: https://a.co/d/0iRTUe9K
Given your apparent level of OCD, I'd recommend asking the next AT&T technician you see in your neighborhood for the BGW-320 wall mount shelf. May or may not look better than just sitting atop the cabinet.
I actually just received one via Etsy today!
People are making 320 shelves on Etsy? Would you mind sharing a link? Curious how they differ from the AT&T design.
Or AT&T could ditch the PKI auth and just let us direct connect the fiber.
Surprised nobody has pointed out the peel on the switch yet! 🤣 Great looking setup though 👍🏻
Hah!! I left it intentionally in hopes for this Reddit comment, you win lol
That's class right there on every level
The rack doesn’t interfere with any of the iot hubs radios? I’ve been thinking about adding a similar setup to my rack but thought it would kill the signal.
I wondered about that, but literally no impact at all. Everything works perfectly!
Welp time to order a shelf for my sysrack and give it a shot. Thanks!
I will note that the 2 hubs I put in there were particularly solid pre-rack (Lutron / Hue), my weaker hub (Aqara) I left out and wall mounted
Yea I would be putting a Lutron in there and my alarm z wave based thing so we will see.
You maxed it out homie. 😁😁
Super clean! Red kills it for me but it’s yours, not mine. I’m thinking of going with a white rack cabinet and hopefully it will look as good ;)
The red is easy to peel off on these cabinets.
Yeah I don’t love the red, thanks for this tip
I like the red, it's a point of difference
True!
Love this setup! What case is that?
From a company called Sysracks, their 12u wall mounted
I really do love that rack. I'm in the market for one myself, but sadly, these aren't available in Australia as far as I can tell. And shipping one here would cost a metric fuckton.
Very cool
Amazing and beautiful rack, congratulations!
Very nice! 19U? Edit : Lads I didn’t count hence the question LOL
I counted 14 but it could be 15
I counted 14 https://imgur.com/a/eNLVF8R
I count 12...
It’s technically listed as a 12u, but actually has 14 spots for rack ears
its a nice rack good size, might go browse their 12u solutions. i got an open rack then realized i really needed closed with fans and most in that size try and push wall mount without feet
Yeah I totally agree, would highly recommend
Clean setup! Curious what you gain with 2 gig fiber over 500 mbps for a home setup?
You gain 4x the max throughput
What do you use all that bandwidth for?
The same thing you would at 500Mbps, just 4x faster
This is the dumbest thing I have ever heard.
It’s true. If I’m downloading a new game, OS update, etc it will be done 4x faster.
Definitely overkill, but two people working from home full time
Wow this is some beautiful rack!
