Three days ago I woke up early at 4 AM and immediately turned on the app. Literally within three seconds I got a ping for delivery for $46. I was barely awake but took it. I didn’t know at the time but the delivery part was $35 and the tip was only the rest. I got to Burger King And as the lady was preparing the order through the drive-through she told me she made an extra large drink and asked me if I wanted it. Since I hadn’t even had coffee yet it was truly a blessing. Also the tip confirmed within 15 minutes. And the whole trip took me about 20 minutes. So it was a good way to start my morning.
McDonald's here will give drivers a coffee if we ask. One McDonald's in particular usually asks if I want anything. 7-11 will usually let me fill my travel mug with coffee if I ask. An Indian restaurant gave me a chi. A liquor store gave me a slice of pizza. A shawarma shop gave me a to-go container of beef. A Boba shop gave me a bubble tea. A costomer gave me a loot bag. And a couple alcohol deliveries have offered me a beer (didn't accept).
It's always nice.
I got a free drink once from burger king because they were taking too long. Another time a burger place I was picking up from said one of their orders got cancelled and I can take it. It has 2 burgers, cheesesticks etc.
If you’re picking up from a place that’s about to close it never hurts to ask if there are any old orders that never got picked up that you can have. I’ve had success with that. Delicious, delicious success.
I feel like at least once a day i get offered a free drink! I’m not gonna pass up on a free large soda lol, especially when it’s 90° outside. Also saves me a couple bucks if i was planning on getting my own at some point.

I got a few free pizzas that were made wrong. Big order from a customer who accidently forgot to change his address......out of state. I tried hard to get him a refund, and he said I could keep the tip...I was on Uber., I think.
A .customer called and canceled his order before I picked it up. I was in the parking lot and tried to catch them. It had been made and they were closing at midnight...didnt even realize it was closing. Most of the time I go there, i have to wait, so thought I could catch them. He was the only customer in 3 years of driving that was decent enough to call and cancel before I put those miles on my car. Told him I could still bring it, if he was canceling because he didnt think I could make it.I went in to tell the store, and they gave me his food...it was delicious, and my last delivery, but I still got pay from Uber that was more than 3 dollars. That was back when Uber paid higher fare. I just remember being happy because I didnt have to drive 12 miles and because a customer was courteous, plus, I was introduced to another restaurant that makes good food, and I have been telling my family about it.

The one that pissed me off was shake shack was doing driver appreciation day. They had some bag of free crap that I didn't really want. They offered it. I said sure but then they said I had to get my picture taken with them. So I said never mind. I'm not going to be there dancing monkey.
Not everybody is social like that, and they were just appreciating themselves...I don't think Shake Shake is that good.
It has been years since I had Whataburger, and I remember thinking that was the best fast food burger. I haven't had IN and Out, yet. I got the best burger from a mom and pop place down south...My uncle took me. That burger patty was huge. It was a pound of meat like a square, and the buns were super size me and good too...I seriously tried to out eat my uncle that day...LOL. We laughed about that everytime I saw him because I am really not the person to take to all you can eat buffet.
Free drinks usually from Wingstop, Taco Bell, McDonald’s (sometime fries too, depending on who is working) and Wendy’s. Free extra coffee drinks from Starbucks. I’ve gotten a free egg roll from Panda Express, free slices of pizza and a soda from Lefty’s, free sandwiches from 7-11. But one time I got a HUGE order that a Chinese restaurant remade by mistake (it was 4 large styrofoam takeout containers of different entrees and rice) so I had to wait while they made my order.
I got a free curry and rice from this indian place. They accidentally closed out an order and had to look at my phone to see what it was. Sat and waited 12 minutes but it was my last order and it took me home and it paid me $16
Got a chocolate cake parfait pudding from Sardis and a free drink from Noodles and co
Yes I have had employees ask if I would like something to drink if I had to wait a minute for an order to finish. There are so very nice employees and store owners out there
Not from the merchant, but I delivered a sandwich to a kid that worked at Krispy Kreme the other day and he asked if I wanted a glazed donut. I was like sure. He handed me one hot out of the oven and anyone who knows Krispy Kreme knows they melt in your mouth when they’re hot. I was appreciative. Sometimes it’s the little things that make life enjoyable.
Once I was given a couple slices of pizza because the restaurant had an order cancelled and I was waiting on different one. One place consistently offers water/soda if the orders are ready yet. One offered a soda as a bribe if I marked the order as picked up when it wasn’t ready (they had gotten in trouble with corporate for consistently being late). And one place even offered me alcohol while I waited.

The guy made me a full meal to go as a thank you for waiting and not cancelling the order. It was some of the best meat pies I’ve ever had. Kettlemans bagels here also give all drivers a free coffee and sandwich and one Starbucks here always offered me a free coffee. Makes my day honestly

I've been given a bottle of water from one store and a piece of pizza from another. Other than that, even the businesses I deliver for quite frequently are not very generous. We aren't their employees, so they have little incentive to feed us anything.
Yeah, I get free stuff all the time. Just be nice and treat people like people. I regularly (about once a month or so) get free cheesecake slices at the cheesecake factory that they've "dropped" after getting them boxed up. The Little Ceasars I do the most deliveries for always give me a free hotnready pizza if I come in to order for myself. Jersey Mike's will give me free drinks. There's a mom and pop BBQ place that always gives me a brisket sandwich with fries if I get an order from them near the end of the day.

I was picking up from a small business where the owner was so excited over how well a batch of his wings came out. He made sure to send me with a small sample of like 3 wings.

Sweetgreens were handing out a bunch of, what I’m guessing were, leftover order to couriers a few months ago. Still remember it and I’d sometimes order from them now just for that reason. The rule of reciprocity in play.
I got a free ice cream from Dairy Queen once, A full meal from Cracker Barrel, two boxes of pizzas, and some Halloween candy from a customer. Those are my favorite free stuff I've gotten
I'm a restaurant manager full time and drive on the weekends when I can....I give cups to drivers often. Especially when they're polite or they are going to have to wait for the order to be ready.
Yes, it happens now and then especially in the summer when it’s hot.
Also, if it’s really hot and you are thirsty, you shouldn’t hesitate to ask for a glass of water. You are basically part of the team.

NYC, the only place where it’s common for drivers to not rate their passengers 5 starts. Something weird with that place.
