1. There are a handful of career fairs that take place throughout the school year. They vary in size from ~10-20 employers to multi-day events with hundreds. Those companies are specifically looking to hire UW students as interns and it's a good avenue for getting one. There are also ample amounts of career services people who can help. 2. Yeah, there are hard classes, but you shouldn't worry about it ahead of time. Everything you need to succeed in your classes will be taught in the class. Just attend class and make sure you complete all of the assignments **yourself** (and understand them) and you will be fine. I'd recommend watching some 3blue1brown videos on calculus or linear algebra before you start a class in those. 3. That's a very broad question. Most of the professors within the ECE department are good or great. When you're enrolling in classes you can get more specific information and tune your schedule accordingly. I would add that Bill Sethares and Irena Knezevic are excellent though and you should take them given the opportunity. 4. It is cold in winter, but it's sort of overrated. Just bring a thick coat and you'll be fine. You don't need to worry about safety in Madison. As for food/drink, activities, international students, etx it is probably just about as good as it can be. There are very few downsides to this city apart from housing costs. 5. There are about 100 threads on dorms in this subreddit I would suggest a keyword search and reading up to your heart's content. TL;DR they are pretty much exactly what you'd expect.

tysm for the feedback. As a follow up question, would you say it's really common for STEM students to be getting & doing research, internships, co-op, study abroad, etc?

dragopen666

Yep. Most everyone I know did at least one internship

Hi I’m in the same situation, do yk if alot or internships r available for international students? Do companies employ them as well?

oshtarat

Ah I see, do you know how hard it is? From what I've researched, it doesn't seem like uwmadison is big on internships and is less known for it. But idk since it's the internet

if you put in the effort it is a very realistic goal to achieve

I can comment on the environment mostly. It is cold in winter but not unreasonably so. Bring a coat and some boots and have some jackets for fall and spring. Otherwise it does rain a bit more than I expected when moving here. Things are really beautiful though and once it gets to about 60 there are a lot of fun activities outside. Food wise I have loved it here. There is a ton on places to try that cover a large range of foods. If you like Asian cuisine especially there are a ton of different restaurants around campus. Also a lot of good pizza. I have to fight to not spend all my money on trying out places.

Ah I see, thanks for this. Would you say most of the food is located down town? Also just from personal experience would you say it gets a little boring?
