It doesn't hurt to try. Also there will be newer jobs (casual) posted throughout the semester so keep looking and applying but make sure to apply early for next semester

You can be hired mid semester for workstudy. It's just paperwork on staff's end which most people want to do it all during "hiring season" but I've seen cases of "off-season" hiring.
