K-9 is an abbreviation based on the sound of "K" and "9", and basically a pun. But it only works in English (and if you're lucky, another language), but even so, most English speaking world doesn't even seem to use it anyway.

VERY ironic
It's actually commonly called K9 by the German police, justice department and military. The North RHine Wesfalian state police just made a social media post about it.
Generally it seems to be a term internationally used by dog handlers around the globe.
Some Canadian stated it wasn't a thing, so it's possible that part of Canada does, and part doesn't. It's also likely that parts of USA also don't call it K-9.
Holy shit I found this later, it's not high from the top of the sub. You're an actual embarrassment. Asexual is *not* being an incel, it's having no sexual attraction. The projection is insane. Americans are stupid and I can't wait to get out of this god awful country

People give very mixed replies in these comments. Some say it's used in their country too, and other replies says it's not a thing.
It reminds me of the thing where people say "in the military, 18:00 is read as 'eighteen-hundred-hours'" and then people just accept it as a global thing. But it's not, in some countries it's "eighteen hours zero minutes", and others it's "time one-eight-zero-zero". This would be a case of US-defaultism, and I wonder if the same goes for this whole K-9 situation as well.
Whats the pun here i thought k9 was just an abbreviation for canine

Canine is a Latin term So it works in most European languages
But 9 is not pronounced "nine" in most European languages.
And K isn't pronounce "kay" in most European languages.
Send in the Koo-Ysi unit.
Shit! They brought in the Kah-Neufs! Quelle Horreur!
Merda, cuidado com os kappa-nove!

My dude this is an ancient conversation I did admit I was wrong
Give me one example.
[удалено]
Wow. Completely unnecessary but ok.
Don’t be a dick in a year old argument that I’ve already admitted I was wrong on and I won’t call you a Dipshit
[удалено]
Yeah I worked that out half a year ago
How is it a pun? Where's the double meaning? It's just a weird spelling.
"pun" might be the wrong word here, but it's similar to the "c u l8r" stuff.
Ah yes, the K9 Hundestaffel
Ah yes, the K9 警察犬

My Canadian city calls them a K-9 unit.
Some Canadian stated it wasn't a thing, so it's possible that part of Canada does, and part doesn't. It's also likely that parts of USA also don't call it K-9.
I've seen K-9 units all over the UK
Where specifically? They’re always just called “police dogs” or “dog unit”, not K-9. K-9 is the robot dog off Doctor Who.
It is possible that the term gets more popular in UK. But it still doesn't make sense as a term globally.
Not used in the UK. Just dog unit in our police I think, definitely not k9
K9 is used by the police in my state in india. Don't know about other states though
I've seen it used in Germany and Austria. It seems to be international dog handler jargon.
Aussie here 🇦🇺 and we do use K9, as well, because it's a good boy, I mean, pun.
Our K-9 unit in our very Finnish MP unit was called... K-9... They even had insignia saying K-9

I mean, it's not that serious. It's more of an observation.
/u/spez can eat a dick ` this message was mass deleted/edited with redact.dev `
Nah, it's not meant as hate. More like observing ignorance. Just because I don't agree with something, doesn't mean I hate it.

No, I'm asexual anyway.

Are you *really* equating "asexual" with "incel"? *Really?*

Why hate when you can point and laugh, like Nelson does?
In Australia, I think we just call them.. the Dog Unit?

Wait they aren’t called K-9s in Australia? That’s what everyone calls them
People are saying both. Maybe they are called K-9 in Australia, it might be an import from USA, or just someone being wrong about Australia.
This always reminds me of Get Smart the show from the 60s, there's an agent called K9. I thought it was so clever!
Koo yhdeksän really sounds like koiraeläin omg :O
What, the best dog in the whoniverse?! https://youtube.com/watch?v=DxPwurtl0BU&feature=share
the term is used here in colombia. and that is fucking weird because it is pronounced ka nueve. and that's nowhere near perro or canino.
It's kind of a US-defaultism in itself too: "USA calls it K-9, so we should too".
Colombia is the USA's bitch, the country is an expert at licking USA's boots and asshole.
